Summer schools

I am already looking for summer camp advice for next summer Smile I have multiple kids/ work full time and our schedule takes a lot of planning so please excuse me being overly keen.

Does anyone know of a Piano Summer School for an 11 year old who is grade 6+. Residential please and UK or mainland Europe considered.

Also looking for a summer school for trumpet grade 5. Maybe orchestral? Or Brass specific? Residential and UK or mainland Europe based please.

Any advice or information greatly appreciated.

I have also been having a bit of a scout around for piano courses for my DS who will be 11 next summer and around Grade 5 standard (I would guess, by then). My main 'asks' are that he learns a lot (which am sure he will whichever one we go for), that he has fun and that he doesn't feel completely out of his depth amongst a load of prodigies. This is what have found so far:

Chet's: www.pianosummerschool.com/

Encore music projects at Wells: www.encoremusicprojects.com/timetable

Wells (different from the one above): wells.cathedral.school/international-piano-week/

Eye-wateringly expensive: pianoweek.com/moreton-hall-school-uk/

Cadenza (v advanced I think - also am not sure if this one is running in 2020): www.cadenzasummerschool.org.uk/_.htm

Pro Corda (not summer hols): www.procorda.com/courses/core/piano-10-18-yrs#.XVA7vyNKg2w

Can't help on the trumpet one, am afraid - hopefully someone else can come along with suggestions. I have seen mention of Brass Academy on the other thread.

Brilliant. Thanks NoodlingAlong it's my DS who will be 11 - wonder if they'll end up at the same one.
He needs a structured day. He's too young to create his own schedule. I wonder which one is the best for that. I'll have a look at all you options and dates thanks.

They all look great to be honest. I think my favourite is the encore music project but at £2000 for a week, we just couldn't do it. Chets or Wells probably more in my budget. Thanks for all your research.

Crikey - I hadn’t realised how expensive that one is either Shock.

DD did a cello residential this summer which was 800+ that’s about the upper limit I could pay I think.

It seems as though the more individual tuition there is, the pricier the course gets. The cello course DD was on was ensemble work only. Obviously that’s less likely with piano.

Piano summer school Chetham’s
Trumpet- isn’t their a brass course NBB or something?

ZakStarkey · 11/08/2019 22:38

Cadenza isn’t on till 2021.

Themutts · 12/08/2019 07:27

Thanks ZakStarkey I'll have a search for the brass course.

I can thoroughly recommend Chet's summer school. DS2 is off on his second course next week.

Brass - RCS recently sent through some info about their summer courses, which I didn't actually look at (other commitments do not relevant) but might be worth looking at.

Probably waaaaaay outside your price range even before adding in flights but this place is amazing for musicians.

frenchwoods.com/music-camp.htm

I spent several happy summers working with people from there. Not your average opportunities. The website is rubbish but it is one of the most sought after camps in the USA.

Moominmammacat · 13/08/2019 20:31

I thought Pro Corda excellent, if heavy duty, and they do good scholarships.

raspberryrippleicecream · 14/08/2019 08:11

Ignore the RCS reference, no idea why I thought it was residential!

Themutts · 14/08/2019 10:10

Thanks anyway raspberry, my parents are in Glasgow so it's still possible. I just think he's make better friends at a residential.

Pro Corda looks great but not sure he could get the time off school. They are pretty strict at his school and not sure they value music as much as he does. Maybe it will cross a bank holiday this year.
