Cycling proficiency

My DS(12) is a competent cyclist. However, he missed out on cycling proficiency at school. He now wants to ride on the public highway, but has no idea about road safety etc. As I don’t cycle, I can’t teach him!

Does anyone know any orgs that teach cycling road safety? I’ve looked online and there are loads of places that teach kids to ride a bike - but none that teach road safety!

We live near Leeds.

I have tried the local bike shop and local cycle club. Both say that although he’s welcome to come for a ride with them, they don’t teach road safety.

Please help!

check out the Bikeability website and search for Leeds.

bikeability.org.uk/

My daughter has done one of the learn to ride courses in Halifax but they offer road safety ones

I can't see any current details but this is the contact info and last year's information for Leeds

Thanks - have already tried that. Leeds bikeabilty have said they don’t currently have any non-school provision.

Is your son at school? He should be able to pick up level 3 at secondary (and they will do levels 1 and 2 first to make sure he can cope with it). Check with your local council, as there may be funding for his school and you can ask them to offer it.

I did it with my son's school when I found out there are funding for level 3 at secondary. They offered it during an October half term.

If you can get him there, they are offering it at Halifax?

or try other councils closer to you
