Flute upgrade?

My ds has taken my yamaha 211. What flutes would you look at to upgrade to (to be given to ds, sooner or later)?
Does anyone know what miyazawa flute 101 is like now it is mostly made in China? The other one I was contemplating was Pearl PF 665. I have been looking mostly on Just Flutes/ AllflutesPlus used/new.

DD has upgraded to a Trevor James and absolutely loves it. She's had lots of compliments on it from musicians who have tried it. I really think the only way is for your daughter to play lots of different ones and see what she likes.

I was going to suggest a Trevor James too.
What grade is your DS, approximately? If you're close to London, I'd recommend visiting Top Wind, All Flutes Plus or Just Flutes and trying out various instruments in your price range to see which your DS likes. You may also find a good second hand one there.

Hang on, am I right in thinking it's for you to play until you pass it on to DS?

If so you might consider that you will like different instruments. We got really good part exchange for both of DD's previous flutes. Might be something to think about?

I bought a solid silver Azumi AZ3 as an upgrade for a yamaha for my daughter. The Azumis all have an Altus headjoint and are good value for money as well. Sometimes London Flutes have lightly used or demonstrator models for sale.

Thank you for your responses.

The upgrade is really for myself. I feel a bit guilty about even thinking about it. My reasoning is that my son could take over it when he gets to a reasonable grade. (A good while yet, but I can still justify the expense to dh this way.) The main thing is that we can play together and an instrument that will last us.

Nowhere near London and not likely to be going anytime soon. I had heard mixed responses about AllFlutesPlus. TopWind don't seem to sell online.

I had looked at Azumi. The AZ3 is too expensive new. Could stretch to the AZ1.

Where are you roughly?

I can justify it for you - it will bring you joy every time you look at it and even more when you play it. I spent £1500 on a cello bow and have absolutely no regrets.

Does your school do the assisted purchase scheme?

BearAusten · 16/03/2018 18:04

You only get assisted purchase scheme if you have lessons at school unfortunately.

The nearest music supplier would be in Edinburgh (The Wind Section?).

Ah ok. I think you should buy yourself a lovely new flute. Go on...

BearAusten · 16/03/2018 18:12

I will um and ah for a couple of months yet.

DD tells me I'm a musical instrument enabler. We only have 20 or so...

Trumpetboysmum · 17/03/2018 07:41

Bear in case it applie does your ds take part in any music service activities? If so you can still use the VAT free scheme they just need to give the instrument to you at orchestra/ band . That's what we did for Ds and his trumpet .
