IDTA Gymnastic Dance/Acro

Has anyone's DC done these exams? DD is enrolling in a Grade 1 class next term and I have no idea about these exams and there doesn't seem to be much online either...!!

Yes. It's Gymnastic Dance. There may be some elements of acro, if that's what you mean. What do you want to know?
The grade 1 exam is quite simple. Series of exercises. Forward rolls, cartwheels, leg rises, that sort of thing, if I recall correctly ( I'll look it up when I'm home).

Thanks Orabel. I was looking on you tube as there seems to be other IDTA grade syllabus videos (like ballet) but I couldn't see anything for gymnastic dance! Was wondering what kind of things they would be doing! Smile

No, there isn't much about. No accompanying syllabus DVD in the IDTA shop either...yet.

Gymnastic Dance

Grade 1

arm circles
Leg stretching
leg raising at back
side stretch and body roll

leg swings
arm exercises

Walks on balls of feet
elevated natural skips
marked runs

Bridge with feet together
Backward roll
Handstand to wall
cartwheel
preparatory box split
straddle split

There's also a dance/combo to finish, usually

The outline is as follows

Barre Technique

instep exercise
knee bounces
knee swing and bounce

Warmups

breathing exercise
expansion and relaxation
stretch and release
hands

Creative Activity
bounce in first
bounce and heel
runs in 3/4 and 4/4 (in circle)
set exercise
triplets

Creative Amalgamation

shapes inc tall and small

Then primary combinations phases 1-4

Creative Bow
