Does anyone know how my daughter could learn japanese. She is very interested but no idea even where to look. She is 12 and we live in the north east.

If you look on the Japanese Foundation website they have listings for tutors - there's a section for the north east so you might find someone suitable for your dd.
My DS is learning (aged 15) and has 1 1/2 hours a week with a tutor. He says it's useful to watch anime in Japanese with English subtitles to get used to picking out words. The book he uses is Japanese for Young People. He really enjoys learning the language and about the culture - we're hoping it leads to GCSE next year but that's up to him!

Try these free videos on Youtube (about 250 of them). The author is one of the leading Japanese teachers in the UK and teaches at a secondary school.

Once she gets going wanikani is a good place to learn kanji although costs about £5/month.
