Help- how can I clean pointe shoes?

Exam coming up, they are grubby. I tried a bicarb paste on a small test patch, left overnight, brushed off, didn't work. Any ideas?

Dab them all over with calamine lotion, and let it dry before wearing. It takes the shine off, but makes them look a lot cleaner.

Forgot to mention - don't calamine the platforms or underneath though, as it can make them slippery.
