February Music Thread

Overdue again, this time due to our local music festival. I put in 32 entries, and am now finished for this year, but haven't had a lot of sleep recently!

I am a teacher of woodwind - mostly recorder and clarinet at the moment - and have two DDs. Goo (short for Kajagoogoo in case anyone was wondering - and no, that isn't her actual name!!) is 11 and plays the flute, recorder and piano. Rara is 8 and plays the cello, recorder and clarinet. We are heading towards a half size cello soon, and I think we might have found a suitable one. We're going to try it out this weekend.

The girls have been entered for Grade 7 Flute and Grade 1 Clarinet this term, and I am really regretting it, as they are so under-prepared. But hopefully after a slightly quieter weekend, we can all get back on track.

Please jump right in, ask questions, moan about practice/ scales/ attitude, tell us about your DCs or your own learning... and new members/ beginners are always welcome!

Oh and dd wants a marimba! And apparently it is so cool and I am not nice because I said no to get her marimba classes.

(PS very handsome DS there Smile)

drummersmum - brilliant! and so concentrated (and from memory). Dd was captivated - think he may have a whole host of DCs now wanting to follow suit!

stringchild · 19/02/2017 21:47

Drummers and Fleur - have sent you both a v poor recording of DD from last weekend; friend took it and only recorded first part of the piece so a bit odd but in the spirit of sharing, enjoy :)

Kutik73 · 20/02/2017 08:41

By the way I am very sorry for my constant mistakes in writing (on inbox, for instance). I usually realise after posting but don't go back to correct them....

Kutik73 · 20/02/2017 10:18

I have just watched all. How inspiring!!! So eye-opening!!! I love watching musical children enjoying making music. I am not having a good day today but their performance certainly cheered me up!

ealingwestmum · 20/02/2017 10:52

ooh, I feel like I went to the ladies and missed out on the round of drinks! May I also be on pm copy of any videos you are prepared to share? I would love to hear them. Thank you drummers for already including me...Grin

drummersmum · 20/02/2017 14:17

string omg that was really nice! It's the "Cant dels ocells" which Pau casals used to play! It's a tune from my childhood! I was moved! She's great! Please send me the longer link

Thank you everyone for your nice comments. Believe it or not you're the closest we have to a real audience of people who don't know me or him, as we don't do festivals, his public playing is usually in ensembles, and the school solo recitals and competitions are a different environment where everyone knows each other. So your feedback is really meaningful and appreciated. Thanks again Flowers

LooseAtTheSeams · 20/02/2017 14:21

I know how you feel ealing but have just caught up with young drummer's fabulous performance - really, really impressive standard of playing! Please anyone with links do pm me as I love to watch them.
Had a very nice morning taking DS2's cello for its bridge adjustment and restringing (felt a bit of a fraud carrying it on the bus given that I can't actually play it!) and it sounds fabulous. DS2 has his lesson tomorrow so he will be thrilled.
Half term seemed to whizz by and I am desperately catching up with work now!

drummersmum · 20/02/2017 14:32

Thanks loose ! Was the repair expensive? Daughter of a friend of mine needed cello fixed, something about the bridge and repair of a thin crack and they quoted her a fortune!

Trumpetboysmum · 20/02/2017 14:50

Sorry really slow to respond we have had visitors this weekend I would love to be sent the links to any videos it's great to watch other dcs do what they love
