Small boast post. Choristers.

Tomorrow is a bit of a sniffly one for me. Last ever broadcast evensong featuring one of my DC - dd2 is joint head chorister in her 8th year in the choir.

I've been a chorister parent since 2004 when eldest joined aged 11, then ds and dd2.

Thanks all. It was amazing. The broadcast doesn't quite catch the balance as well as when live. Dd had a teeny solo. The boy head chorister did fantastically!

i wish my mum and dad had as much pride in my years as a chorister as you do its lovely :)

They never even came to see me receive my Bishops Award :(

Dd said Anthony le Fleming ( composer of the canticles )was there and congratulated them after - it was the first time he'd heard them fully in a service apparently !

i dont think they really got it tbh, and it was a lot of work.

I did do most of the stuff for the St Cecilia too, but i just missed the age cut off thanks to needing my tonsils removed, so i never got to take the exam!

I hope your DC's carry it on, i kept singing well into my 20s with my local RSCM affiliated choir, and i did an Ecumenical that used to go around doing the Summer Services in the Cathedrals while their choirs were on Holiday. Got to sing at Christ Church Oxford, Lincoln Minster, and St Pauls Cathedral doing that :)

I keep meaning to go back to it now my kids are a bit older, i just never seem to get around to it. :)

Maddy my older 2 both have choral scholarships at uni. That has been so good for them in so many ways. Dd2 is hoping to get one but is applying to unis that have a lot of independent school kids so who knows if she'll be successful. She's very much train in the " boy treble " style, do if they want more girlie singing with vibrato etc she won't fit.

I'm quite proud of me. I've just re joined the local university chorus. I sang in it last about 30yrs ago as a student :)

Maddy go back to choir, and do your Gold RSCM award. The St Cecilia doesn't exist anymore, and the Gold is for all ages.

Then come and tell us so we can celebrate with you!

We loved being a chorister family Helen and are hugely proud of both our children. DS is currently applying for gap year choral scholarships (really tough as far more applicants than positions but he's flooded the market with applications) and would love to make a career in church music. DD is much less musical but benefitted hugely from the whole chorister experience. We feel truly blessed. I well remember broadcast Evensong, all saved on our Sky box!

DS is auditioning next month for the National Youth Choir. I have no idea if he is good enough, but his school recommended that he audition, and one of the music teachers is going to help prep him.

He is singing in Scratch Messiah next month. I have also attended one rehearsal. I loved it. Haven't sung in a choir for 28 years. Couldn't hit top C, but after 3/4 of an hour I could hear the difference in my voice

Rasberry she's applied for liberal arts, with a thought to major in English and continue some music. I'm a bit annoyed as she's excluded are local uni simply because it's local , but it offers IMHO the best music opportunities that would suit her. I'm also really worried she'll end up in Durham, which whilst a nice place is 4hrs drive or a really expensive train away.

We will see. ( nail biting icon here!)

It's a shame about the local uni. My DD would be the same, she's been very scathing about DS only being an hour away.
