Fundraising

I would like to ask if anyone ever came across being bullied into fundraising. I was told(not asked) by the teacher of the local dance school to fundraise 60 pounds for the school over Christmas period. I dint manage and being a single parent on min wage I gave her out of my pocket £20 as I cant afford anymore. I dont know enough people that would be willing to give me 40 pounds. I don't mind donating I mind being forced to fundraise. I was named and shamed and I think my kids will at least face discrimination because of that fact or even exclusion(its a fundraiser for dance costumes 500 per item for children who take part in championship, mine will not ) am I being unreasonable that I feel bad for being named and shamed as I didn't participate?

Is the dance school a charity? The one where my dd goes is a private business owned by the principal. I would never expect anyone to fundraise for it, let alone be bulled into fundraising.

If costumes are needed for a performance, parents would be expected to pay for them. They try to re-use and borrow costumes to keep costs down. Even when I had to buy a new costume, I never paid as much as £50.

It all sounds awful. Any chance of moving dc to a different dance school?

I'm appalled to be honest. This is totally unreasonable of the school. Why should you have to pay for costumes worn by other people's children?

Totally unreasonable of them to expect you to do this, and truly horrible that they have singled you out by naming-and-shaming in this way - I'd seriously consider moving your dc if I were you.

I would definatly be finding another school.

A Dance school near to me (not one dd ever went to) fundraise so their performance team can take part in events to keep the cost to the kids down but they do raffles & supermarket bag packs etc. Another holds fundraising concerts & shows to help talented students who are going off to vocational school.

To expect individual parents to be able to fundraiser £60 is ridiculous. I wouldn't give a penny beyond my normal fees.

Thank you for all your input. This is a private dancing school not charity I pay 46 pounds every 4 weeks for my children to be able to learn few steps so another 60 pounds just after xsmas was too much. 😞

we don't have to do any fundraising at our dance school. if children take part in shows or competitions then it is up to their parents to pay for whatever is required. I know of other dance schools that do fundraise but not in the way yours is. I think that is terrible and would very rapidly move my children in your position.
