Girl Guides - sixes

Sixes in guides. My daughter has been put in a 6 with only one of her friends - in another group there are only 4 girls together. My daughter wants to move with her friend to the other group to make up a 6 (they are all friends)
She approached the leader today and asked and was told that she wasn't allowed to move next term. She had to stay in the 6 she was originally given.

Is this right. My daughter is on the brink of leaving because she's not allowed to mix with her other friends

I'm with the leader, I suspect. The girls need to put Guides first & make NEW friends, not coalesce into familiar cliques.

Is there a big problem with girls in the Six she's been put with?

Not really its jus t that now she is in secondary school she doesn't get to see the other girls as its a huge school. And one of them goes to the grammar so guides is the only time my daughter sees her.

She wants to be in the same 6 so they can catch up with each other. The group she's with now are all older than her

I think trying to get the group to bond as a whole means mixing up some friendship groups a bit.

Plus there is the inconvenient fact that six good friends in a group could get very hard to handle very quickly if they are a lively bunch.

Guides would only do some things in sixes. They called patrols in guides so it's not like they would not mix with friends. Maybe if doing badge work etc they may work in patrols for some of the evening. Plus there should be plenty of time for friendship groups at the link so I would be suprised if they never did anything together.

There maybe newer guides starting soon that she may want to spread out so few new in each rather than one all old hands and one all new.
Plus if the 6 friends are together then they are all same age so means not everyone will gain experience of being patrol leaders later on. That's why there is a mix of experience and ages.
Maybe worth asking if one of the four could move over so three friends in each may feel better balanced

She'll see even less of them if she quits Guides, so quitting not a good solution.

There are often other reasons why girls are split up in Patrols - not limited to:

• Needing a broad range of ages in the patrol
• Friendship issues
• Behavioural issues
• character traits - can't have all the strong characters in one patrol, nor all the mousey ones

I'd just leave it tbh.

if they're such great friends they can see each other outside of Guides too, surely?

Our Guides doesn't do that much in sixes, perhaps 1-2 meetings a half term. And they change the sixes round every term. They tend to try and mix the friendship groups up too after their first term when they can sometimes pick one person to be with.
