Violin grade 1 result

I hope people don't mind if I post this but I've just found out that my DS (8) has passed his grade 1 violin with a high merit. We are so proud especially as he has co-ordination difficulties. Passing any exam is an amazing achievement but it's even more amazing when they have additional needs.

I hope he's going to take his certificate into school to show his teacher.

My DD1 is 17 and working towards grade 8 now despite issues with fine motor skills and her sense of rhythm. I'm all the more proud that she has got this far through sheer hard work.

Thanks,he certainly will take it in! He did the exam before Christmas so with the break it meant we had to wait longer for the results. He was starting to lose confidence in his abilities so this news has really boosted his self esteem. We're hoping he may skip grade 2 and work towards grade 3 but We'll wait and see what his teacher says. He's determined to get into our local YouthOrchestra but he needs to get at least grade 4. He is getting a fair amount of ensemble experience with 2 orchestras out of school and one in school plus instrumental group in school so hoping that will stand him in good stead!

Sorry,meant to add that that is an amazing achievement to your dd. DS really struggles with counting/timing so this result is even more special. Is your dd going into music as a career?

That would definitely be a boost if the teacher supports it.

DD1 is in our county youth string orchestra and loves it. They have some inspirational conductors and it's lovely to hear them playing which is compensation for all the years of scratching and sliding.

She is a keen scientist and is off to study that at uni in Sept. However, her teacher has suggested that she could earn money teaching violin to little ones while at uni which sounds better than the usual waitressing/bar work.

Congratulations to your DS, do you have celebration assemblies at school where they can take their certificates in and a bit of applause for their achievements?

I'm not sure to be honest but he will take in his certificate and at least show his teacher and the learning support assistant that helps him. They do have a house point system so he may get some of those! I'm just so pleased for him. He has big issues with lack of confidence so this is huge for him.

Thanks all.When he came out of school I asked him if he told his teacher and his LSA and he said no,because he thought they were too busy!I felt he ought to but he went all shy so I went up to the LSA and he told her and she was over the moon and gave him a bug high 5 and said she would tell his teacher.It was lovely as she made a really big thing about what a fantastic achievement it is

excellent - well done to him. He must be so pleased to see the results of his hard work.

One of my children has coordination problems and can fall over thing air so when she got a good result in her first dancing exam (including rather shockingly full marks for coordination!) I was even more pleased for her.

He will love playing in a youth orchestra and it is so good for him to have something to aim for. I would like my children to do a musical instrument but I can't face the thought of fighting them to fit in practice so am putting it off at the moment.
