Best Beginners Cornet...

DS1 has been having cornet lessons since September and is REALLY enjoying it. He has a Bentley cornet provided by the local music service which is rather well loved ==beaten up==.

I'm a bit concerned that it doesn't seem to be the easiest instrument to play so didn't want to put him off at the first hurdle iyswim.

Does anyone have any advice they could give please? I've seen some yamaha ycr2330ii at good prices second hand and figured they'd sell on pretty much for what we'd paid for it...

Or are we just better sticking with the school instrument for now? He's in school lessons with a teacher who doesn't comminicate much! But seems to be progressing him well.

John packer website would be a good place to start depending on budget. Do email them as they often have secondhand or ex-display models at even more reasonable prices. Would personally avoid the Echo model, but depends on how much you want to spend.
Good instruments have decent resale value...

We bought a second hand Boosey and Hawkes cornet for dd.
How old is your ds - my only reservation about buying a cornet is that dcs often move onto the trumpet when they are older / more experienced so you could possibly end up buying 2 instruments.

John Packer is a great source of knowledge and the ex demos and second hand instruments are really good quality. DS started learning at 6 on a John Packer Cornet which is still great, now 91/2 about to take grade 5 and wants to do this on the trumpet, but will keep cornet for fun

Goodness, I'm so sorry,i didn't receive notifications of your replies!

We ended up with a second hand Yamaha ycr 2330ii in the end from Cheshire Music. Really good deal and super service. Well recommended. And the Yamaha is lovely! (Plus he offers interest free credit or rental)
