Artistic talent?

My DD seems to be very good at drawing and keen on colouring and designing. Her friend is writing a book and she is illustrating it and is always doodling etc..

As I ave absolutely no artistic ability whatsoever, I am a little in awe of what she can do with pencils/paint and paper!!

Does anyone have any ideas on art clubs or ways of supporting her potential talent for art? There seem to be loads of activities for musicians and sports people, but what is there for budding artists?

I have posted this in the G&T shudders a little at the term! section too.

How old is she? If you're in a city, most art galleries usually run workshops on weekends and during the holidays. Theatres also often run arts and crafts sessions on theatre design.

She is 10. Loves going to galleries and exhibitions but hasn't had any regular formal training which you get if you want to play an instrument or sport well.
She has tons of books on drawing and techniques which she uses to tech herself and is always looking at YouTube tutorials etc..

Just hoped someone might know of professional teachers who run classes etc..

If you are in SW London there is a company called Artyard Handmade in East Sheen that runs holiday and after school classes. One of them is on how to draw and paint, others are more crafts based stuff. Good Luck!

There is the Arts Award which has various levels & allows kids to work towards gaining the award at various levels. My dd is currently working towards her bronze award but there are levels leading to this which might be more suitable for your dd's age. It requires her to work on her skills, learn about an artist, create a portfolio, make notes on her thoughts about her work & get constructive criticism from fellow members of the group. You can search for providers near you & find out about the award here.
She can do the award in another art form, like music or dance, but my dd already plays an instrument where she does gradings & plays in an orchestra so she was really pleased to be able to do something like this in her favourite hobby.

Is there not stuff in school? DD is 8 and has taken oart in a couple of school extension projects for talented artists, and she goes to a watercolour club at lunchtime once a week. Our local art gallery also runs regular children's workshops.

There are so many clubs at school but only one art club which is highly oversubscribed so she has done one half term and places are now only open to other children who haven't had a chance to try it. TBH she is really busy with sport, music, debating and chess during the school day so any lessons/classes for art would have to be outside of school!

Ohtobe, where are you located? Perhaps someone knows of a suitable art club near you?

Can you please suggest me books on techniques etc. which your daughter is referring to + you-tube channels which she found good.

Tbh I have no idea which sites she uses on YouTube - she does her own searches on things she is interests in drawing and finds videos she finds helpful. She loves drawing animals in particular and is also interested in manga and cartoons of late of which there is an abundance of material on the net. She would spend her whole weekend drawing and painting if I let her...
