Debating society / Public Speaking

My child 14 yo picked Law & Economy for his GCSE to become a Lawyer.
Was thinking of getting him on debating society or public speaking to give him a taste of what like being in a court..!!
Would anyone know where in London we could go?
Also, what kind of degrees & Jobs are out there for Law & Economy combined together?

Obvious choices would be Law and Economics . However I would say opting for these subjects at GCSE is not necessarily of benefit longer term. Many successful lawyers, accountants, actuaries, economists etc take unrelated core GCSE, A levels and even Degrees then do relevant Post Grad professional qualifications . Does his school not run a debating or public speaking club and perhaps enter competitions ? ds went along to a recording of BBC's Any Questions recently. There are also LAMDA exams in Public Speaking etc.

Have you thought about contacting Toastmaster, they may have a junior sections or you can just sit in with her and observe. I am also in contact with a local university debating union just for us to visit and my daughter will just observe how they put ideas forward. Hopefully next summer she will then be able to attend the residential debate academy.

will school think about setting up a group?The secondary schools I'm acquainted with have a strong debating club set up. I's run by 6th formers (as part of a service commitment, and , let's face it a clear means of gathering useful breadth for UCAS!)

They also debate within classes. DD2 has just had to debate for the death penalty, which she found challenging (but se understands you don't have to agree with something to debate for it).
