Is it LAMDA?

hi, was hoping somebody here could help.

My dd is asking about Drama lessons and I think she needs help with speech. She was under SalT as an infant and although much better, to me she still has problems.
Before I asked a Lamda teacher I thought maybe somebody here could explain, better than the website what each different subject covered. I know most teachers are honest but wouldn't want to shell out if its the wrong thing. She also has a very strong accent that can at times sound a bit awful. As bad as Eliza Doolittle, but Northern, so elocution would be good too.[hgrin]
We can't access lessons from a school as none do it here, so we will need private tuition. Please can you tell me your experiences.
I know many do this through school and many parents might not know so much, but thought it worth a try. Teachers/parents please.

What do you want explaining. I'm involved with lamda acting & verse & priose lessons. The children often have a clear idea what they want to do and they choose one if those. There are also other exams that desk with public speaking and debating rather than performing as such.

Lamda do not specify that exams have to be in RP - I have had children gsin distinctions performing in regional accents but their diction is good.

I suppose I want to know which course would suit dd needs best and if it would also help her problems. Also if Lamda is the answer.

I am looking for something to to help with diction but also if possible be an aide to minimising a very broad accent. Can you tell me please, on the website each syllabus has 3 different sections. Do they choose one section or complete all 3. I don't know which would be better, the performance or communication. Sorry to be a pain, its just with her speech problems seeming to be communicative I thought this may be better. Which is my connundrum atm.

They just choose 1 section and are entered in that, so for example you can do exams in Verse and Prose, or Acting etc etc. I would suggest Verse and Prose - it should help with her diction and make her more expressive when she reads. As others have said, there is no accent stipulation for LAMDA (or Trinity Guildhall, the other main Speech and Drama exam board) but if her diction improves I think that will achieve what you are hoping for.

I will look to find a teacher who will do the Verse and Prose. I did find one in our area doing the Theatre syllabus, but she already does singing/dancing.
Improving diction and speech is really my first priority, not so much RP but just so that everybody can understand her. Even now at nearly nine she gushes some sentences and people ask me what she has just said.
