How much for dance school show tickets?

DD1 dances at two different dance schools. The shows for one (which happen every two years) tickets are usually around £11 with £2 reduction for concessions. They happen at a local theatre.

Her other dance school have a show coming up in a similar local theatre and they are charging £17.50 with no concessions. Shock

DD2 has done many youth theatre shows at the same theatre and the tickets are never more than £13.

Am I right in thinking this other dance school are taking the piss?

Two members of my family have made their excuses as to why they are unable to come and I am pretty sure it's the cost.

It's a bloody dance school not the flippin' National Ballet! Angry

(Oh and it's nothing to do with subsidising the cost of the costumes as we are paying an arm and a leg for those too...)

£6 adults kids free but a show every term.I thought that was a bit steepThey hire a hall which has fold out auditorium style seating and a stage so everyone gets a good view

BrigitBigKnickers · 14/04/2012 19:15

Well this show is in an actual theatre but I still think £17.50 is extortionate.

Ours are the same this year. Maybe some provincial theatres are charging an arm and a leg to hire out?

Makingchanges · 14/04/2012 19:28

Show every 2 years in local theatre also about £13

Makingchanges · 14/04/2012 19:29

I would think £17.50 was a rip off especially after price of costumes etc.

We pay about £8 adults/£4 concessions with a show every two years. We also have to pay a standard fee of about £25 which covers all costumes-usually a lovely tutu they get to keep.

It's at a local theatre.

£11 each here.

Show every 2 years, nominal fee for costume hire but £££ for extra lessons / rehearsals.

Annual show, in a proper venue (mixed use, doesn't just operate as a theatre but also as a music and comedy venue), £5 adults, £2.50 kids. No cost for extra lessons or the dress rehearsal, nominal fee for costumes.

Just as a comparison-DD2 had an audition on Sunday for a 10th Anniversary gala show for the youth theatre she is involved in, to be performed in a West end theatre.

We found out today that she got through and the tickets for that are only £20 and £15 for concessions.

At a west end theatre...

Not some show at a poxy provincial theatre by a local dance school!

Ours is a theatre and costs 8.50 per ticket with no cocessions. Its a huge school though with aprox 15 classes (30 kids in most) they all do a mixture of nights. Costumes depend on how many dances they do. (Ballet, tap, modern, National) £140.00 this does eventually exceed double this for senior classes who do about 4 more dances.
