singing wrong notes

At choir on Thursday I suddenly realised I was singing two wrong notes in one of our pieces. (In my defence it's a very difficult piece!)

So I resolved to do some extra homework this week.

But now that I look at the music, play piano, sing along to youtube etc., I'm sure that my notes are sound.

But on Thursday I was 100% certain they were wrong.

Is there anything I can do before next Thursday? (Obviously then I can ask someone next to/in front of me to check my notes for me.) It may be that I'm singing them right at home, but wrong in choir with all the other sounds going on?

It's only 4 weeks til our concert, so I want to get it right asap.

What is the music?

It could be that the rest of the choir have it wrong! Although it's more likely that you are being put off by something (the other parts) when singing in the choir.

The parts I'm unsure about:

  1. We (Altos) are singing A, basses G, sopranos B, and Tenors F sharp - so plenty of scope for distraction! (But I'm really not sure I am.)
  2. We have an E, tenors D, basses F sharp, [first altos A and sopranos C sharp]. Ditto.

I am confused.

If you really think they were wrong, ask the conductor to check the notes/section at the next rehearsal. If there's scope for distraction, a couple of wrong notes may not have been noticed.

Well, the two moments that you mention are definitely fairly dissonant, and i could imagine it would be difficult to pitch the notes. It sound like you are singing it correctly, but then when the other parts are there it feels wrong. Have you tried the old 'finger in the ear' trick to really hear yourself at the crucial moment?

Lucky you, being in a choir that sings challenging and beautiful music like this.

Grin Yes, it's great fun: I love it. Hope we pull off this piece in the Christmas concert!

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep practising this week, then ask someone in front of me in the section to check on Thursday.
