dance classes

I have posted before under AIBU and the consesus was mixed. My ds is only 5 and has just started a streetdance class. We have been told that a exam is to take place and all students need to take part for it to go ahead. Was not over impressed about this as ds has only been dancing a few weeks but I have agreed. We are also being charged an admission charge. Fine for me but we have been told children must pay to. With 2 addit dc thats alot of money. Would it be reasonable for me to drop off ds and run.

An exam that requires an audience. Hmm, sounds a bit of a money making mickey mouse exam to me.

I teach performing arts and dd dances and takes exams. We usually get to watch the exam practice class and aer charged a lesson fee for the class but not a charge to go and watch. And if you ds has only been dancing a few weeks how ca nhe possibly be ready for any kind of exam.

We are not allowed to watch dd's dance exams. But we do pay a small exam fee to cover the examiner's costs, hall fees etc

My DD does Irish dancing. Her school does encourage the children to take the exams but it is not compulsory. The children move on as they learn new dances, basically as soon as you learn to dance the basic reel you then learn the jig, then hop jig and so it goes on. My DD used to do ballet and tap and had to do the exams to move to the next class and found it really boring as she did the same thing week in and week out, which was the main reason why she gave them up to concentrate on the Irish dancing. She is only 6 and is performing some of the same dances as 11 year olds.

we always pay for dance shows, and are not ever allowed to watch exams. ever. and that's with all genres of dance over 9 years of dance with three kids and um, about 4 different dance schools (moving on to 5th now). and as elphaba says, if your child has only been dancing a couple of weeks it's a bit pointless even being entered for an exam at all... it all sounds v odd!
