What age for Netball ?

Hi,

My Dh is slightly obsessed with DD1 starting netball - I think all the girls that he liked growing up in Australia were sporty netball playing types Wink. Anyhow just wondering what would be the youngest that girls would start playing, she is 4.5 by the way.

Thanks,

Bx

I think it tends to be a KS2 (8+) sport in schools, and I expect it would be the same in external clubs.

Plenty of preparation she can be doing in terms of learning to throw, catch and bounce though. Not to mention a hoop on the wall.

Hope she's keen. Grin

Ewww netball. I was always GK as I sucked at netball. We started playing (in Australia) around grade 4 I think. So age 8/9.

dd (y3) has just started playing netball - and for some bizarre reason she loves it - I always remember it being really boring but hey ho ...

anyway, she'd never played it before she started y3 at her new school and is now in the A team so obviously prior experience doesn't make a lot of difference

really helps if you're tall ...

Our school starts netball in yr3.

There's also something billed as basketball for about half a tterm during games lessons in yr2, but I got the impression that was more about ball skills and a taster of shooting than the actual game.
