hmc · 28/04/2009 22:41

Don't be a twunt - of course not!

verylapsedrunner · 28/04/2009 22:42

of course not

FrankMustard · 28/04/2009 22:42

No! It's the perfect age IMO!

hf128219 · 28/04/2009 22:44

No! Why did you think you might be?

flymetothemoon · 28/04/2009 22:51

Absolutely not! I know loads of people who took it up at that age and are good players now. Many people play well into their sixties and beyond so you have years on court to come!

themoon66 · 28/04/2009 22:55

I'm older than you and I took up jive and latin american dancing only last year. Am pretty good now

And I took up long distance running at the age of 43 - and I'm pretty good at that too!

Go do yer tennis, but be prepared for grumpy young 'uns faces when you start beating them!

hifi · 29/04/2009 09:24

thanks, seeing a friend today who plays well so will pick her brains where to go.

hifi - I am also going to start playing tennis again, first time since school. I have played recently a few times and I am truly terrible, but it is a lot of fun and our local Common has a well run tennis scheme that I am going to try out. I even went to TK Maxx and bought myself one of those tennis skirts with the built in shorts - it's scarily short, but might encourage me to get my legs in shape. Good luck finding a nice place to play.

wilbur · 29/04/2009 09:31

Oh, and I'll be 41 in August as well.

ingles2 · 29/04/2009 09:33

definitely not!
my boys have started playing tennis recently and after weeks of watching them, came to the conclusion I'd have to learn as well so I can take them to the court. They beat me hands down of course but I'm really enjoying it. I wish I started playing earlier but the awful tennis lessons at school put me off.

flymetothemoon · 29/04/2009 09:42

Really curious as I'm very involved in the tennis world, what has triggered you all wanting to start playing? Is it anything to do with Andy Murray's success or your kids taking it up or just a random idea?

wilbur · 29/04/2009 09:57

For me, it's because we bought a holiday house that we rent out and sometimes stay at that has tennis courts for the guests, so that got me using them to see if it was still any fun to hurl myself around the courts. Then I saw that the tennis courts on Tooting Common (near where I live) have a tennis scheme where you can find people to play rather than just being ones that you book through the Council and have to find your own partner. I do know other tennis players, but they are all scarily good and I was afraid I wouldn't give them a good game if I suggested playing. This way, hopefully I can find another newbie to knock about with. So not really to do with Andy Murray, just wanting to move around a bit more.

I would love to take up tennis (not played since school) but it's all clubs round me and I can't afford to join. Doesn't seem to be any pay and play facilities for adults that I have found.

For me, the impetus is wanting to get fitter and wanting to be able to play with the children (until they get too good ).

No, there really isn't! Ridiculous, isn't it?

CountessDracula · 29/04/2009 10:08

wow! Are you sure plug?
Luckily our village has a couple of courts on the green. It is members only but the fee is £5 a year!

flymetothemoon · 29/04/2009 10:14

Plug - there's a website called something like tennis for free which has a list of pay and play schemes. There might not be any near you anyway but worth a look?
