HeadFairy · 28/10/2008 17:40

None right now but do a pretty physically active job, on my feet all day, carrying heavy equipment, so that's my excuse I save a fortune on gym fees

Jazzicatz · 28/10/2008 17:40

Go to gym twice a week and walk the dog. Never would have guessed though as I am still fat and lumpy.

I do a spin class and body conditioning!

DrNortherner · 28/10/2008 17:41

I do a spin class 3 or 4 times a week. Sun, Mon, Weds and Fri.

needmorecoffee · 28/10/2008 17:43

nothing 'organised' as it costs too much but I reckon walking to shops and lugging back shopping plus the lifting and manual handling dd requires (put my back out with a hideous pop today) counts as 'gym'.
Cycle as transport too.

What is a spin class?

ambercat · 28/10/2008 17:43

started running 3 x a week in august, it has made such a difference! i feel fitter, more toned and very smug

scaryfucker · 28/10/2008 17:51

absolutely zero ! zilch ! nada !

unless you count horizontal jogging

filz · 28/10/2008 17:51

nothing atm
i am one lazy fuck

moyasmum · 28/10/2008 17:59

Started to swim twice a week (1/4mile each time - nearly kills me ,but ill keep it up)and trying to walk further. Got too used to using the car.

Would like to do an aerobics class or such for the impact (got to build up bone density now im menopausal) , but all the jigging about makes me dizzy(balance problems).

will check out this thread for any good ideas i can pinch.

DrNortherner · 29/10/2008 09:09

Spin is an aerobic exercise class on static tomahawk bikes.

10krunner · 29/10/2008 09:17

I run 3x a week, my sunday run is up to 6.5 miles (am training for the Edinburgh Marathon) and my two midweek runs are 4 miles and 4.5 miles.

tibni · 29/10/2008 09:32

Gym - usually 4 times a week. Mix of cardio and weights. Sometimes swim after - always use the steam room .

Keep trying to get organised to try out some of the classes - used to do pilates which I loved.

Apart from that I do 20 min school run and not enough housework

notyummy · 29/10/2008 09:32

2 or 3 runs a week (between 4 and 8 miles) depending on weather and time.

Execise DVD 1/2 time a week (Nell McAndrew or Billy Blanks Boot Camp; only 2 that ever actually made me feel like I was exercising properly as opposed to just 'playing' at it)

Matt Roberts 'Fit for your Shape' home workout routine once a week.

Pilates DVD: 30 minutes 2x a week.

Don't belong to a gym (the one where I live cost too much money for poor facilities...I am quite happy to pay a reasonable sum for a good facility, but out in the sticks here the gyms are rubbish). Everything I do bar the running can be done at home, and the pilates and Matt Roberts stuff can be done with dd (2.3) around. She watches and sometimes does it with me. Other DVDs are a bit energetic and I run the risk of kicking her in the head She has asked for a pair of trainers so she can come running with me

KT1983 · 29/10/2008 14:39

As Im a Fitness Instructor - I do more than I probably should do whislt pregnant.
Run 5days a week - Roughly 4miles. Teach 3 Spinning classes a week and 3 Aerobics and Toning classes. Also do my own weight sessions on top after my runs.
Sometimes if im too tired il do a Billy Blanks DVD inside instead of a run.

Hoping it will put me in good stead for getting my body back after the baby is born!

ShowOfHands · 29/10/2008 14:42

I run 3/4 times a week.

Cycle probably every other day for a few miles.

Walk lots as I don't drive.

Also do a fitness dvd a couple of times a week (Nell or Davina).

mosschops30 · 29/10/2008 14:44

Im on my feet constantly in work, but I also do spin/rpm class 2/3 times a week, swim once a week and try and fit in a gym session or pilates class.
It just depends on how my shifts work to how much i do

notyummy · 29/10/2008 14:44

KT1983; try getting Pilates for Pregnancy DVD. I found it good during the latter stages for toning round the midsection when you can't do proper abs exercises. I ran up to 6 months and then started wlaking uphill on the treadmill and using the crosstrainer because of dire warnings about my pelvic floor!

notyummy · 29/10/2008 14:45

walking uphill

MingMingtheWonderPet · 29/10/2008 14:47

I run 2 or 3 times a week, and netball training and / or netball match once or twice a week.
Walk to school and back.
Would like to try and do some more body conditioning type stuff, but find it a bit boring.

I am quite lucky in that there is a gym and pool where I work which I can use for 80 quid a year.

I swim or go to the gym/go running every lunchtime during the week, plus sometimes after work if I can.

At the weekends I go running and usually hiking if it's nice weather.

I also play in a netball team at work and sometimes go to circuits if I can be arsed

I also walk to work and back.

However I do very little housework indeed!

Countingthegreyhairs · 29/10/2008 23:23

NOT ENOUGH!!

it is becoming increasingly evident as I get older (am now 44) that I need to do more than ever to stay the same weight/condition, never mind lose weight & tone up ....

Currently it's 20 mins brisk walk back and forth (up and down hills) for school run

  • power walking in park 40 mins x 5 a week which recently dropped to x 3 a week but am hoping to pick up again

sedentary part-time job

I'm noticing that I'm increasingly stiff and less supple and need to do some yoga or pilates ...

I admire those of you who have the self-discipline to exercise at home with the help of DVDs. Mine are sitting on a shelf unused ....

Fantastic to have a topic devoted specifically to exercise and sport. Thank you Mumsnet Towers!!

Joolyjoolyjoo · 29/10/2008 23:28

Well, I walk the dogs for an hour every day (aka enforced exercise!) and also do 3 classes a week (spin, combat, attack) Missed my classes last week for various reasons and by Sunday felt really, really depressed. Couldn't work out why until I came home from spin tonight feeling happier than I felt all last week- I think I am addicted to the endorphins!

DontKillMeBaby · 29/10/2008 23:28

Approx bugger all.

My fitness plan is Wii Fit in wet weather, DD's trampoline in dry. I do neither.

However I have cycled to work for the last three days (DH taking halfterm off, wanted the car) without actually dying (extraordinarily sore bum though) so might do that more often if I can manage it whilst getting my hours in.

I hate it though - get no kick out of exercise whatsoever, if it hurts or is remotely tiring I stop. Ergo, cycling to and from work has to be the best thing - if I stop, I don't get home!

needmorecoffee · 30/10/2008 09:03

lack of time here apart from housework/shopping type exercise.

littlemisschatalot · 30/10/2008 10:20

probably about 12 classes a week, spin x3, cardi curciuts x2, body pump x3,body combat x2 and body attack x1, plus salsa dancing x1. feel so much better for it. joined virgin gym so get to go often. and work part time!
