Shrink my waist!

HotPodiumGuysGirl · 23/06/2026 11:28

If you wanted to lose 10 inches off your waist, ie 35 down to 25 inches, what would you do?

Answers including “breathe in” and “weight loss jabs” are not really what I’m looking for.

Diet and exercise tips please!

What happened to the traditional 34/24/34 shapes of yesteryore beauty contestants?

well first of all they were 17 to 20 you say you are older. them in 50s 60s 70s people were much smaller due to to less UPF & exercised from just walking @ moving & smaller portions.

My older sister are 11 & 12 years older than me. at about 20 they never wanted to be more than 7.5 stone at 5'5. they dieted above that

I mean you haven’t told us your weight or height so it’s hard to say whether this is a realistic goal or not. Given you say your are menopausal and have a 35 inch waist I think aiming to reduce it down to 25 inches is unrealistic without serious exercise and a permanent hefty reduction in calories. I would aim for a goal weight and increasing your lean muscle mass personally.

You could try a hula hoop! Easy to do in front of the TV. I do it occasionally when I remember. I can't tell you if it works or not, but it feels as if it should get your waist down!

It doesn't 🤣

Mine is 61cm/24 inches and I am perimenopausal and don't exercise much. I lost all my belly fat when I cut out all upf and really lowered starchy carbs (no sugar, white bread, flour etc). I think in your 40s your body looses much of its ability to deal with blood sugar and this causes weight gain around the middle.

Martingale86 · 25/06/2026 05:42

I also eat well, around 1800 calories a day.

WarriorN · 25/06/2026 05:45

I had a 25 waist as a 20 something but it wasn’t healthy.

I’ve been weight training and actually have a stronger but thicker waist.

I have osteoponenia and wouldn’t advise attempting to go that low as you’d be loosing muscle around your core.

WarriorN · 25/06/2026 06:15

waist is currently 27 inches, I have a narrow frame and am pear shape. Hips are 37. But I’m carrying fat around hips and could loose an inch or so. My waist would stay the same

a friend who has very little body fat has a much wider frame and her waist is naturally just wider than mine.

Short and fat. I am shaped like a brick at the moment, if I lose weight I turn hourglass. I think if I went down to 7 stone I would look like Gwyneth Paltrow ie straight up and down. She looks great btw but I would like a waist and to wear belts. I’m too self conscious atm. I think that’s it. I want to wear belts.

I lost my waist after a back to back baby. I am a size 12, normal BMI but no waist at the front, I do at the back. Regular pilates and core work for 17 years has made little difference 😭

You need to lose weight (body fat). I lost nine inches off my waist but that was by losing four stone in weight and weight training.

Similar here - I lost 14” off my waist and 5 stone in weight. I switched to a Mediterranean diet. Also altered the timing of my meals so I ensure I consume all my meals within an 8 to 12 hour (although aiming for 8-10 hours) time window, thus having a mini fast every day.

WutheringTights · 25/06/2026 08:39

Genetics and age matter. I’m perimenopausal. I’m 5 foot nine and have always been somewhere between 10.5 and 11 stone. In my 20s I had a 26 inch waist. Now, despite eating healthily, exercising, and being a similar weight, my waist is 29-30 inches. If you’re in menopause 25 inches is going to be hard.

MrsClattenburg · 25/06/2026 09:01

I'm like you @WutheringTights with pretty much the same measurements.

I have shrunk my waist slightly but reducing calories even more and low carbing for a few weeks. I also do planks and kettlebell Russian twists daily (10 mins) which I think has helped.

How embarrassing. I posted on another thread thinking it was this one 😳😳😳😳😳

@Squidward2026- what do you recommend by low inflammation diet?

momager22 · 25/06/2026 19:42

You can’t decide where on your body you lose fat from. bread does make me bloated around my middle though so I’d cut that out of if I was bothered about having a more streamlined waist.

WarriorN · Yesterday 06:28

I’d be more bothered about bones and brain tbh but anti inflammatory diet helps these as long as you’re mindful of calcium

WarriorN · Yesterday 06:38

MIND diet is especially good iirc

WarriorN · Yesterday 06:45

I saw an nhs menopause consultant last year who said taking omega 3 is excellent and even if you eat oily fish you are unlikely to get enough. (Apparently also is mildly helpful for weight loss too.)

The xx brain book by Lisa Mosconi has great diet advice for brain health but it’s all also anti inflammatory.

Specialagentblond · Yesterday 08:04

Oh yeah and Spanx has

OP I agree with PP that weight loss and less carbs will be necessary. I don't like heavy exercise but I do a regime most nights as I'm standing cooking or washing up and it's made a noticeable improvement in the size and 'tone' of my waist.
-I twist at the waist, hips stay still, full twist x 50
-I do 30 of Tracey Andersons weird waist pump things where again hips stay still and you kinda pump your waist out to each side (I can find a link if asked)
-I do belly dancing moves: Maya, Reverse Maya (forget name) Figure of 8
x 20 times each exercise to each side
-old fashioned leaning over to the side at the waist with arm outstretched x 20 each side

Nothing heavy going and I do it as I'm pottering around kitchen but definitely a big improvement in body shape. Good luck!
