Tips for belly weight loss

Ok so as per my title…

im eating a calorie deficit diet so that part is covered. I have 2 questions

firstly I’ve started walking this week and have done it every day mon to Fri and woke up today my legs are aching. Obviously normal as my legs aren’t used to this level of exercise but roughly when should I expect that to stop?

secondly we have a trampoline at home in the garden so it was recommended by a friend that I do 100 jumps on it. But I can only manage batches of 20 at the mo before I need to take a break. Is that gonna help if I’m only doing batches of 20? I am doing my 100 a day just in breaks

The only thing that helps reduce my belly is cutting refined sugar and going low carb.

For me I can be 7 stone or 11 stone (I’m v short), but I always look pregnant unless I cut sugar/carbs irrespective of weight.

Exercise helps my mental wellbeing and fitness, not spot reducing.

Me too refined sugar and low carb. All the things I like!

helpmelosemybigbelly · 19/04/2026 13:34

Well I’ve just managed 50 jumps on the trampoline no stopping.. at the moment my walking has been a 35-40 min walk in the afternoon to collect kids from school.. from tomorrow I’m going to also do that in the morning and walk home after I’ve dropped them off. Hoping that will help

I’m also doing tummy crunches. So far I’ve lost nearly a stone in about 6 weeks, but not quite there yet, another 2 pounds until I’ve lost the stone.. I’m weighing weekly every morning on a Monday so tomorrow is the moment of truth

Walking the school run both ways is a great habit to get into, apart from anything else it’ll just become normal part of your routine not “exercise”.

It all sounds positive and not stuff that will be hard to keep up. (Buy a good brolly and rain coat if you don’t already have them, stops you being tempted not to walk for bad weather)

helpmelosemybigbelly · 19/04/2026 15:56

It’s hard tho cos I have such a sweet tooth usually and I can’t even remember the last time I had chocolate.. I’m avoiding crisps and sweets too and it’s really hard

Try things like pop chips or ryvita bites or baked crisps (walkers?) for now. There’s some seaweed thins you can buy in supermarket, Itsu make them I think. They’re vile to me but you might like them. Kit Kat and Jaffa cakes are better chocolate options. As is one square of dark chocolate. Try to replace with fruit.

So today is weigh day this morning after a wee naked on a hard floor. First reading said 10 6, then it said 10 4, then it said 10 0. Went back after 5 mins still hadn’t eaten or drunk and it says 10 3, which one do I believe?

Move your scale to a different bit of floor - that much fluctuation suggests it's not quite level.
It sounds like you're doing great on fat loss. That's the only thing that will reduce belly fat, and the fat will go from all over, not just the belly. Doing crunches is fine but it won't make much difference to your belly appearance. Cardio is much more useful for fat loss, so the jumping and extra walking will help.

helpmelosemybigbelly · 20/04/2026 07:34

I tried it on a different floor in the kitchen which is still tiles but in a different room and it’s going to 10 3

You unfortunately can’t influence where you loose body fat from. Lots of times where we store our fat is genetic along with declining hormones etc.

Crunches won’t help. What will is improving your general fitness through the walking and using the trampoline, being in a calories deficit and patience. Doing weights can also really help as a great deal of movements strengthen your core. However the only way to get rid of stomach fat is to be in a calorie deficit. Sounds like you are doing amazing well, keep going.

helpmelosemybigbelly · 20/04/2026 07:49

Thanks for advice and I’m definitely in a calorie deficit and walking lots

I think running, I lost over 6 stone with the help of mounjaro, by stomach is flat, bmi 20, but I started taking creatine, doing planks in the morning and running, just 20 mins a day running before my other work out ie strength

and I have bizzarely found in a month or so my stomach has shrunk by an inch or so.

I say bizzarely as I genuinely didn’t realise, I could see muscle, but I have two dresses that were close fitting round my rib cage and waist, and an event to go to, and I tried them on the other day to decide which to wear, and check they fit ok, and they are now loose in those areas. I was genuinely very surprised. So I tried in some trousers that were also tightish on the waist, and it’s the same, I’ve a good inch to spare.

i googled it and apparently running reduces visceral fat.

so I’d build up your walks to runs. I’m not sure trampolining and walking will do it for you but it is a great start to your fitness journey.

It doesn’t matter really, just pick one spot, ensure it’s identical, every time, ensure you stand on it, so it’s zeroed and come off, then step back on. Take that reading.

helpmelosemybigbelly · 20/04/2026 08:06

Thoughts on star jumps?

Any brisk cardio is good for reducing visceral fat, not specifically running

Horrible, make you wet yourself 😆

Star jumps might feel more effective in the moment than a brisk walk, because you get out of puff, but in reality you'll do a lot more by brisk walking for half an hour or an hour than you will by doing 20 star jumps. You don't star jump for 30 minutes do you? It's a short intense burst of energy expenditure that doesn't do much other than get the heart rate up. It's good for a warm up if that's what you're after.

helpmelosemybigbelly · 20/04/2026 10:22

Well I weighed myself again in boots and that also shows 10 stone 4 so I think I’ll go with that as that tends to be similar to at home scales where it was mainly saying 10 3 or 10 4

Well yes, but it’s not all equal is it.

helpmelosemybigbelly · 20/04/2026 14:25

I really hope with the calorie deficit my belly goes cos I can see I’ve lost weight when I compare to photos of last year but then my big belly is still there

No, but OP is totally new to exercise and I wouldn't want her to think that only running will be effective as some people are really not suited to running and if she tries it and hates it then she could get discouraged.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 20/04/2026 14:44

I have a tendency to carry weight around my middle. Right now it’s the flattest it’s been since I was in my teens and I’m only a few pounds heavier than I was at 18 now. I lost a few stone over about 18 months and have now kept it off for another 18 month.

the only thing that has made my stomach pretty flat is endurance running. When I was doing a couple of 5ks a week I didn’t loose weight unless I was also dieting. Now I run 30 miles a week on average and more if I training for something I can most eat what I like. It’s a lot of effort though and certainly not for everyone 😂. It also needs to be built up to over time.

with regards to the muscle soreness. It’s like delayed muscle soreness from increased exercise. If anything keeping moving will probably make your legs hurt less.

Stand on your scale then get off and let it go blank and then stand on it again. Thats how you get mine to be accurate.

I didn’t say onky running would be effective. I am unsure why you’re being arsey over an honest answer to a question. She asked for a tip to belly loss, and I gave her mine, at no stage did I say nothing else will work.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 20/04/2026 16:19

OP - weigh yourself in the same place at the same time of day (I always go for first thing in the morning after I e been to the loo but not gone downstairs to have a drink and breakfast yet!), ideally wear the same thing (or in your own bathroom, nothing! No point adding your clothes and jewellery to the total)

The walking you are doing is great and being the school run has the potential to just become “how we live” not “I am doing special exercise”. Get that habit locked in and then add more. But don’t swap it for something else, this is now how you do the school run and crucially, your dcs walk now as well.

Brisk walking for 15 minutes a day (so you’re slightly out of breath) helped me lose 2 stone. Plus walking everywhere on a commute, taking stairs at work. 30 mins walk outside at lunch. Combine that with lower carbs eg in evening and less but not zero sugar and you should see results in 3 months. If you can manage a clean diet even better. Dates and fruit good for snacks. I add peanut butter to slit dates for energy boost.

helpmelosemybigbelly · 21/04/2026 13:35

Does anyone eat these, pic attached, if that ok as a lunch or unhealthy?
