Runners with wideish feet

What are your road running shoes of choice? I’ve tried a few but not found my favourites yet. I would like fairly light weight but bouncy, I think I’m a neutral gait runner.

Hoka Mach 5s in wide fit. I always thought the soles looked too chunky to be lightweight, but my feet have never been so happy. Light, comfortable, no pinching (and I have wide feet PLUS bunions to proper trotters). I also have their trail shoes which don’t come in a wide fit, but are still better than anything else I’ve found.

I have hobbit feet and have the Saucony Guide 17s but got the men's as they were wider than the ladies. Absolutely dream to run in from day 1.

Edited to add: I also have a neutral gait

BogRollBOGOF · 05/10/2025 16:49

I wear the New Balance 860s (w) although found the previous v13 better than the current v14 which seems to close in on my big toe despite already upsizing to a size 5 (I'm a 2 in Birkenstocks so really can't go any bigger!)

Altras have a reputation for a wide toebox but with a history of achilles tendonitis, going too minimal is risky for me.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 05/10/2025 17:03

Topo have a wide row box, mine are very comfortable and I have wide feet. Ds also had some and has crazy wide feet. He outgrew those and currently has some new balance in the widest fit the do which he is very pleased with.

CrostaDiPizza · 05/10/2025 17:10

Neutral gait. Saucony, Asics or Mizuno.

Get your gait checked at a proper running shop. Buy running shoes recommended by runners (not just a shoe from a brand that does running shoes). Quality varies between brands and models.

You'll probably need a half-size up from your usual shoe size,

redannie18 · 05/10/2025 17:16

I tried so many and settled on Brooks, they are lovely and comfy and bouncy.

Paaseitjes · 05/10/2025 17:19

Saucony Triumph men's model. The heel is quite narrow so fits my duck feet perfectly

MagpiePi · 05/10/2025 17:28

I wear Brooks Glycerins. I’m size 9 but get men’s ones to size up as Brooks don’t seem to think that women need bigger than a size 9.

Superstans · 05/10/2025 17:29

Mizuno wave riders

CrostaDiPizza · 05/10/2025 17:29

@redannie18 Brooks is popular, and those who wear them seem to stick with them. I'm not keen on bouncy soles so they're probably not for me.

The guides are a support shoe!!

CMOTDibbler · 05/10/2025 17:48

Currently, On Cloudrunner 2 wide. I've previously worn wide Hokas, but since On started doing a wide fit I've found they suit me better

TheSmallAssassin · 05/10/2025 18:16

I wear Asics and have gone back to the mens' ones, I wear size 8.5 in running shoes though, so am squarely in the mens' size range. I would recommend going to somewhere like Runners Need, they know their ranges well and will be able to help you find the best shoe for your feet (and gait)

MissisBee · 05/10/2025 18:22

I've an old pair of Brooks adrenaline wide fit that are very comfy but feel a bit slow. Tried several sizes to get the new version but the fit felt completely wrong. I've now got 2 pairs of Nikes, regular fit but my wide feet are comfy in them - Pegasus 41s for when I want to be speedy, and Structure 26s cos I do need support shoes

Algoquick · 05/10/2025 18:28

Brooks Ghost for a long time in D width. Then realised I was an overpronator so bought a couple of pairs of more supportive ones they do.
Got fed up being left with boring black in Brooks as also have big feet so bought Saucony Guide 17 beginning this year. They are fine and come in wide fit but look massive. Can only see Guide 18s in black so may be looking again….,

The good thing about Brooks is that if you order from their site, you have 90 days to try out and then return.

I did a marathon in a pair of Ghost Max last year and then returned as I could see my foot turning inwards when wearing them. I had only worn them for a couple of 5ks beforehand so were still in good condition and at that point swapped for their more supportive shoes.

New Balance 860
Brooks Adrenaline
Hoka Skyflow

PaellaPan · 05/10/2025 19:40

Inov8 Roadfly. The only brand I have found that can accommodate my bunions and run without pain.

muddyford · 05/10/2025 19:41

I had Brooke Ghost. I had the men's ones as they are wider.

ExperiencedTeacher · 05/10/2025 20:12

I couldn’t get on with Brooks. My feet were just too wide. I loved Altra- specifically designed for women’s feet, light and low profile. They took a few runs fo get used to as they are very different from my modern trainers but I wore them throughout marathon training

wellingtonsandwaffles · 05/10/2025 21:43

Brooks ghost - I tried a lot in the shop years ago and these were fab, so have stuck with these for a few pairs. but I wear a size up from my regular shoes. I have very wide feet! Great customer service as when something on them broke after about a year they sent me a brand new pair!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/10/2025 13:12

I think what thus thread is showing, like walking boots, jeans, bikes and bras, you just need to try different styles/brands on, until you find the one that works for you. (If you are anywhere near Sheffield, go to Accelerate in Attercliffe).

Londonmummy66 · 06/10/2025 13:34

I have wide feet and a neutral gait. My favourites are Hoka - I just run in wide fit Cliftons as I find they are cushioned enough for me although there are squishier shoes. I also have NB 860s in the extra wide fit but I don't find them anything like as bouncy as the Hokas.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 06/10/2025 13:57

I have wideish feet and like asics novablast 5s. I have a pair that I do most of my training runs in and I’ve just brought another for when they wear out.

SiobahnRoy · 06/10/2025 14:07

Wide size 8 here, Brooks glycerin - like wearing slippers!

CrostaDiPizza · 06/10/2025 15:02

Got fed up being left with boring black
Whenever I look for a new pair, they've nearly always got some pink on them. I don't like pink. My running clothes tend to be navy, black, orange or red.
I DO NOT WANT PINK RUNNING SHOES.

Sale Running Gear | Runners Need (search for sale Saucony shoes in my size gave 14 pairs, 9 were pink or with pink detail)
