Does anyone take creatine regularly?

Codlingmoths · 09/01/2025 13:08

im not into supplements, can’t even manage regular vitamins, or remembering to take the pricey collagen I bought, but I am increasingly seeing articles in legit media saying things like regular low dose creatine makes women fitter, stronger, healthier and slows ageing. Does anyone take it? Feedback? (I will have to be taking my collagen regularly to allow myself to add a supplement)

Yes I take it but I also work out and do a lot of weights so I take specifically for supporting my muscles. That’s interesting to hear about the other benefits. I do take a week off every couple of months but otherwise take it daily.

CherryRipe1 · 09/01/2025 18:19

No but mine was very low due to a vegan diet so I went back to meat & fish ,& it returned to normal.

safetyzone · 09/01/2025 19:06

I take it every day. I strength train and it's one of the most well researched supplements. There's no reason why I shouldn't (except holidays when it's a bit of a faff).

RayKray · 09/01/2025 19:43

Yes I have it every day. Without a control me to test against there's not much to feed back but the research says it's a good idea.

shivbo2014 · 09/01/2025 20:31

I take it every day, I do crossfit 4-5 days a week, so I wanted something to give me an extra boost. I've made great progress with my strength in a short period of time, so I feel like it works for me!

gamerchick · 09/01/2025 20:36

It's excellent for menopause brain fog. I don't take it in winter because you need to drink loads to keep the stuff happy. The rest of the year it's easier.

naturalbaby · 09/01/2025 20:41

I did a few years ago when I did CrossFit, and felt like it made me really short tempered/angry. I'm tempted to try again now that I'm a few years older and trying to build up my strength again.

Try 'tradeingredients'. It's waaaaay cheaper than eBay, Amazon. And all those ripoff sites like Bulk, etc

Gymmum82 · 09/01/2025 20:46

yes I take it. It’s excellent for recovery, muscle growth, preventing dementia and also improving cognitive function. Pretty amazing supplement all round. I take 5g per day. It’s also cheap.

VinoWitch · 09/01/2025 21:00

I listened to a podcast the other day (diary of a ceo) where the nutritionist interviewed recommended it for middle aged women in peri or meno or post - think it was something to do with struggling to maintain muscle mass. So she recommended it regardless of whether you're weight training or not

Not loads. Vitamin d, a multivitamin and magnesium to help sleep

Creatine monohydrate. Brand doesn’t matter. I usually take whatever is in home bargains

Ok, I already take those, I will look into creating, thanks.

Yes. Brilliant stuff.

KungFuSock · 09/01/2025 21:25

I take as I was experiencing brain fog and was having issues with fatigue (falling asleep late afternoon). It has helped immensely.

Thanks! I do do some strength training, one body pump class a week and planning to try for a home Caroline girvan too this year on top of running and reformer Pilates, it’s a fitness and strength goal primarily but the more I read the more it helps everything.

I am early 40s, and definitely starting to think of optimising my health and fitness including brain! I will probably need to work until I’m 70 after all…

How do you measure out 5 grams? A teaspoon? Or actual scales? That will make it harder for me to make it a habit.

thanks all! I’m in Australia so will have to find a local source

It will come with a 5g scoop in the packet.

Most come with a scoop in the tub. So you just take one scoop. I save mine from previous packs just incase the next one doesn’t have one.
Im not sure where you can get it in Australia but in the U.K. you can get it anywhere. Health food shops. Online sports nutrition sites, discount stores. Just compare prices and get the cheapest one. It doesn’t need to be fancy or flavoured

ThatFluentTiger · 10/01/2025 10:42

I take it daily, I have it in tablet form just because it’s easier, but I think there’s some research around taking it at certain times for maximum effectiveness; before/during/after workout. Sorry that’s vague I can’t remember which one!
Edit: Look up the loading period if you’re just starting it and weren’t already aware, you have to have more initially to build it up in your system.

Most recent recommendations I've seen say there's no need to have a loading period. Just go straight to 5g a day and ideally don't stop. Loading is only if you want a short term boost to performance (or dramatically increase the look of muscles).
