All welcome! A place to share or goals and achievements and to motivate each other along the way.
A virtual mumsnet run club perhaps?

I have been on a half mara chat group the last few years but currently not training for one. So, my 2025 goals are:
Now until spring - get fitter for a 15 mile hilly trail run event in April.
Summer - try for a 5k PB, try to get faster?
Autumn - maybe do a half mara? Cross Country again ( I am slow and old but love this).

Who else wants to join me?

That looks lovely @Doublethecuddles what a fab day.

id normally run Sat but seem to have a niggle in a different hip this time so may be forced to take another day off plus a cold brewing. It feels too cold and icy to go out on the bike so really should just do some yoga instead but feeling the need for a running buzz.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/01/2025 18:23

Gorgeous @Doublethecuddles!

We’re on holiday so a bit of parkrun tourism for me tomorrow , with a bit extra to make up the mileage for my weekend run in case I don’t get time to run on Sunday.

Such good advice @BogRollBOGOF about keeping spare clothes in the car. You reminded me of my peak rugby Mum days when I had piles of clothes, hats, gloves, boots, waterproofs etc in the boot in preparation for anything 😄

Londonmummy66 · 10/01/2025 18:57

Just a short threshold run for me - carefully timed so I'd have to run really fast in order to get home to see DD2 head out all glammed up for her 21st birthday party (no parents allowed.......)

BearWoman · 10/01/2025 21:28

Ten km early morning run for me tomorrow. Did a really slow relaxed 5km yesterday- I am really enjoying getting back into it. Five weeks until my first HM of 2025!

JanuaryOSunshine · 10/01/2025 22:26

Hope she has a good time @Londonmummy66 and not too late & noisy coming home later. My eldest is 18 this year but not a “going out” kid yet as her sport training dominates her life but I’m sure it will come.

I was invited to dinner with the of one of her party friends and got home after she did so I'm counting that as a win....

Lovely run to the end of the golf course this morning. Slightly annoyed as Fitbit sdidnt start recording until 1/2 way round and won’t pare with Strava!
@bloodredfeaturewall running own soft sand is really tiring.

nice pictures

yes, running own soft sand is really tiring. and running in water is, erm, like treading water. and the shoes lose their bounce a bit when waterlogged.

plus your legs end up looking like fishfingers with the sand sticking to them.

Hauled my sorry ass out of bed and went to Parkrun this morning. We have a fast and flat mostly tarmac'd course with no bottlenecks bar the start and not much lapping so perfect time trial territory. Decided that if I'm going to get up and drive more than 5k to run 5k that I need to make it count as otherwise can just run it from my front door in half the time it takes to do the round trip. Also vowed to stop being intimidated by the front row people doing their butt kicks in their club vests :-) - I always start too far back as worried about being trampled in the stampede (I've seen Lion King), lose too much time in the first km as hard to overtake before it spreads out, and then think "oh well I can't make up for that now, I'll just get round".

Not today amigos: started 3 rows back, went out hot and held on (just) for a 5 year PB of 23:37 (watch, not sure of official time yet). Last 2km were a bit spicy on the lungs but pride stopped me letting too many people overtake. Critically, I have reclaimed the family Parkrun crown from DS by 3 seconds so he's going to have to rechallenge me- we have a rule that only last park run counts- no trading on historic glories.

Clearinguptheclutter · 11/01/2025 11:05

Well done to all park runners! I am in the nw and all within 45 minute drive cancelled, again. As was the case last Saturday and NYD. Not a good start ti the year for parkrun.

however I was pleased to have managed 10k in the snow yesterday. Found the snow surprisingly ok to run slowly on. There is frozen slush around which is deadly but the sun was so bright I could easily see it

JanuaryOSunshine · 11/01/2025 11:41

Well done park runners, I chose a rare lie in then did 40mins of yoga worked out why my hip was niggly - a sore muscle above knee - worked out the kinks and thought I reallllly want to run. So I put on a podcast (RunPod) didn’t look at my watch for first 3k then realised I was feeling comfy & fast for me so kept going and got a lovely 10k done. Super pleased with that and really should do yoga more often before running when time allows as my old body does need it.

Suasthuasanuas · 11/01/2025 12:06

Really enjoying reading along with everyone's running.

I'm newish to running and I'm absolutely loving it. I never expected to enjoy it as much as I am, even though (or maybe because) it doesn't come easy. Up to 5km and had such a lovely parkrun this morning. Absolutely jammers as it was the first of the year after last week's cancellation.

Goal for this year is to increase my distance. I'd love to get up to 10km. Hope I can get there!!

BogRollBOGOF · 11/01/2025 12:59

No parkrun o'clock alarms this weekend. All the local runs & juniors have cancelled in advance as last weekend's ice hasn't gone anywhere.

Mountaingirl54 · 11/01/2025 14:12

I got up and out early for a long run with a friend. Started off crisp and clear and then a freezing fog came down and it got so cold our eyebrows and eyelashes froze lashes froze and the water bladder tube completely froze so didn't manage much water. Luckily it was too cold to sweat much!

EasternStandard · 11/01/2025 17:30

Beautiful icy run. My favourite running weather sunny and cold

Loads of people in the park

I did Woolacombe Dunes parkrun once. My calves loathed me for 10 days afterwards 😂

Jumbojem · 12/01/2025 09:28

Lovely pictures and some great runs going on.
@LaPalmaLlama well done on braving the front rows at parkrun, pushing yourself and getting a brilliant time!

I went for a run on the only hill near me, trying to get legs and lungs a bit better in hills. Plus the core/ankles used to reacting to slips in the mud. Did a few magnificent slides but managed to not fall on my butt!

No snow or even ice here. It's 6 degrees already now so today's run is going to feel practically tropical!

BogRollBOGOF · 12/01/2025 11:05

We've just about hit defrost mode. Not sure what the ground conditions are like yet as there's quite a lot of ground warming to go and it can get slippier before it gets better.

I'm dressed to head out. DH is out at the moment. He has modified his original intention of a long out and back to cutting and repeating the leg. I had voiced concerns that the cold could be more depleting on a long run than he's used to- he's been running regularly for a year and hasn't been out in many deep frosts. On my run earlier in the week, my skin was cooling quicker than my muscles were generating heat in the second half.

bloodredfeaturewall · 12/01/2025 11:34

when it's very cold I find the cool down difficult.

I'm an 'aftersweater' iynwim, so keep sweating for quite a while after the run. if I get too cold I tense up and get cramps. if I wrap up warm I keep sweating for longer...

BogRollBOGOF · 12/01/2025 15:34

I did 10k. There were some weird warm/ cold patches like when you're in the sea that you don't normally notice so obviously. I ended up adjusting layers a few times and ended up taking my base layer off and just having my thermal jacket unzipped over my bra to let the steam out but still keep warm in my arms.

Great run. I had a sports massage on Fri and did naff-all yesterday, and my body just enjoyed it. I set a timer for 30s R/W but ran longer blocks together if I wanted.
Far easier than the 11k on Wed despite finishing uphill in the final km.

Londonmummy66 · 12/01/2025 17:50

Very impressed with those that got out today. I managed a gentle 5k yesterday that was meant to just put a little bit of load on the legs ready for the long run today. Woke up feeling achy and fluey so sent the day in bed instead......

BogRollBOGOF · 14/01/2025 16:35

Intervals today. I've been using Nike Run Club for instructions and it's nice having those verbal cues and encouragement compared to just a watch beeping. I was still a bit dead-legged from the gym at the weekend, so running to effort rather than watch metrics was more appropriate.

Nice to run in relatively mild conditions!

Gymbunny2025 · 14/01/2025 16:41

I did intervals (indoors) too today! I weirdly enjoyed!

bloodredfeaturewall · 14/01/2025 17:19

anyone else first got their R and W confused?

it's 'rest' and 'workout' not 'run' and 'walk' on my watch Grin

bakewellbride · 14/01/2025 20:21

Sorry I neglected this thread but great to read through and see how everyone is getting on.

I'm going to run 10 miles tomorrow to practise for my February half marathon. Going to aim for 90 mins but realistically it will probably take a bit longer.

JanuaryOSunshine · 14/01/2025 20:37

Had a great 5k managed to run up a hill non-stop for the first time in a very long time think it was the full moon effect!
