All welcome! A place to share or goals and achievements and to motivate each other along the way.
A virtual mumsnet run club perhaps?

I have been on a half mara chat group the last few years but currently not training for one. So, my 2025 goals are:
Now until spring - get fitter for a 15 mile hilly trail run event in April.
Summer - try for a 5k PB, try to get faster?
Autumn - maybe do a half mara? Cross Country again ( I am slow and old but love this).

Who else wants to join me?

Well done @OhOneOhTwoOhThree a marathon in this heat!

Well done @thepurplepenguin!

I went to the gym today and was the only person in the gym when I arrived! Did 30mins on an exercise bike (very boring) and some weights, determined not to lose any of my recent fitness gains while my foot is playing up!

WolfMother326 · 22/06/2025 02:44

Hello, I was on this thread in January and have lurked since then while running on and off due to my two little ones and various illnesses etc. But I managed to run enough to success (slowly) complete the HM earlier this month. It was my first race. Hoping to run a bit more consistently in July.
Nice to see so many of you are still on here and running!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 22/06/2025 08:00

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree well done. Completing the marathon is an amazing achievement in the heat!!

@WolfMother326 congrats on your half! I have one next weekend and I’m hoping it won’t be as hot!!

@SoapCollector i hope your foot feels better soon. It’s so frustrating when set backs happen!

JanuaryOSunshine · 22/06/2025 09:06

Whoop well done @thepurplepenguin and @OhOneOhTwoOhThree i couldn’t run those distances in this heat. I still have flashbacks of sitting in the medic tent with DH after his 30m coastal run a few years back when the heat suddenly hit. He was ok in the end but it’s scary how quick heat exhaustion can catch out even experienced runners.

well done park runners I’m really not a warm weather runner we’ve been walking the dog at 6am as she’s a black coat and even with a cool off in the sea she was panting and thirsty. Hopefully it will break on Monday and we get some rain.

Jumbojem · 22/06/2025 22:31

@ohoneohtwoohthree wow, well done on a mara in the heat!

I have decided I'm def entering Bristol to Bath 25k so got 3 months to start upping the distance and get some hill training in. Feels good to have a focus. Next year's cross country fixtures also came out, which starts in October so that's my autumn/winter sorted out!

That’s exciting @Jumbojem i think that’s 3 of us from this group planning to do it now!! Not that we’ll know who each other are 😂.

JanuaryOSunshine · 23/06/2025 14:41

I’ve cycled between Bristol to bath but not run it as I don’t live near there now. Hope you enjoy the run.

Early 5k trail run-walk with ddog this morning, I was slow getting going but there was a cool breeze making it pleasant and dog was happy enough as I found a stream at 3k for her to jump around in.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 19/06/2025 18:25

@princessspotify yes, Portsmouth could be a good shout. It’s near Southampton so could potentially stay with dd and then drive in n the morning. I’m a bit lazy and only really willing to drive very far/stay over night if I have to pay for a hotel for one like London 😂

If its the waterside one then it starts on the sea front in southsea - it could be quite difficult to drive and park there. I usually take the train to the Great South Run which as a similar start point. You can walk from Fratton or Portsmouth Harbour. You could drive to a station like Fareham that is between Portsmouth and Southampton and take the train in from there

WolfMother326 · 23/06/2025 23:05

I went on a short run today to test whether I'd recovered from the half marathon - I had some IT band pain and then it persisted afterwards. After 2 weeks off and lots of foam rolling it was fine today and I enjoyed getting out. I think I'm going to do another race but will aim for a 10k to keep things simple over summer. There's one at the Bedgebury Pinetum in Kent in October that I'll aim for, my husband will do the half. Very good excuse for a babysitter 😎

NormaMajors1992coat · 24/06/2025 10:30

An early morning bimble around the streets for me this morning, week 9/3 of C210K, which was 20R-3W-20R. I was slightly dreading it because it’s a repeat of the previous run which I didn’t complete due to chest pain 😱
But it was fine and I think I’ll do it again for parkrun on Saturday because by then my scheduled one will be too long
with 5x10min runs and walks of increasing duration in between.

Best of all it was raining and pretty blowy and I still did it, having been very much a fair weather runner in the past. (I basically didn’t run at all December-March because it was too cold 🤦‍♀️)

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 24/06/2025 17:59

@NormaMajors1992coat well done on getting out in not the best weather. Sounds like you’re doing well with the 10k programme!!

@WolfMother326 glad that you’re recovered from your half. 10k later in the year is a good aim.

I have a half on Sunday this week. I haven’t given it loads of thought and was more worried about the 10k I did the other week. It’s meant to be really hot which makes me a bit nervous. I’m hoping for 1:55 but will see.

Jumbojem · 24/06/2025 21:36

Only time for a quick run tonight as got home later than usual. So I decided if it's a short run I should try for faster, two pushing the pace laps of the track round the park (small park, just shy of 800m track). Then what has become a new fave to end my runs on, run hard for the distance of two lampposts, walk two lampposts distance, run two etc for the length of my road (almost a mile).

We'll be ready for a new thread by the weekend! I like the way that this one has taken us pretty much through the first 6 months of the year Grin

Yes, that’s quite pleasing @BogRollBOGOF 😂.

i went for a trail run with my dog tonight. Not the most successful as almost every field I wanted to go through had live stock and I like to run with the dog on the lead. I kept changing routes and ended up really quite stung. But hey ho, it’s all good fun!!

Sparticle · 25/06/2025 22:39

Evening all, I took DS16 out with me tonight for a local 5km as he hasn’t run for a year but needs to get back on it for his DofE and now he’s done his GCSEs he has no excuse!

We were both too full from our evening meal tbh but for the last 0.5km he ran ahead with annoyingly youthful speed 😁

Do any of you have school supper runs where you live? I’d not heard of them till we moved here post-covid but the high schools round here organise 6km fundraising runs that are normally followed with a chip butty. I’ve not run the one at DS’s school as I’ve not been running before (DH and DS have the last few years) but all of us will be running DD’s school run on Monday evening. No chip butty though which is disappointing so they’re just calling it a midsummer run.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 26/06/2025 07:12

@Sparticle that sounds like fun. My DDs schools never put on anything like that.

that said. The school where dd2 does her placement for college hosts one of the 10ks I’ve done this year. They also put on a 5k fun run for the children and parents that don’t want to run the slightly crazy 10k route!! There are a few round here hosted by primary schools so similar but different thing. My DDs secondary school also used to do a colour run every year, but only for pupils.

Sparticle · 26/06/2025 16:34

Afternoon all. It has been solid rain here all morning but thankfully brightened up at lunchtime so I’ll probably head out for a run later.

@Jumbojemwill you be starting a new thread? ☺️

JanuaryOSunshine · 26/06/2025 18:01

Gosh wish we’d had some rain my poor garden is wilting it’s very humid. No running for me this week got a horrid virus that’s wiped me out and we go on holiday next week so hoping it buggers off soon as I’ll be gutted if it ruins our hols. DH has it too.

Sparticle · 26/06/2025 19:06

Get well soon @JanuaryOSunshine!
Is anyone else watching Faith Kipyegon attempting to break the 4 minute mile?

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 26/06/2025 20:20

@JanuaryOSunshine hope you're feeling better in time for your holiday!

@Sparticle im not, but might give it a go if it’s good.

I went for a run on my lunch break today and got a pretty fast pace that I was quite pleased with. Since then I’ve felt off and now my throat is feeling sore. I hope it doesn’t come to anything as I have the half at the weekend!!

healthy vibes to everyone!!

JanuaryOSunshine · 26/06/2025 21:08

Thanks. Hope the half goes ok @Whataninterestinglookingpotato sadly the sore throat was how this started so fingers crossed it goes quick

Fizbosshoes · 26/06/2025 21:40

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree you have inspired me for my race this weekend, it's the North Downs Run , and due to be about 28°
I'm re-thinking my life choices how competitive I'll be about it, I basically want to get round, and have enough water. I think there will be lots of walking breaks!

Well done @thepurplepenguin for your podium finish, last Saturday.
I did parkrun last week on an undulating course, and then a sociable run with friends on Sunday morning. This week has just been easy short runs in the evening, so nothing too hot.
Hope you are better and back running soon, @JanuaryOSunshine
