David Lloyd - to join or not?

Potter23 · 02/06/2024 21:54

I visited a branch on a guest pass with a friend and loved it.
now booked for a tour at Ipswich and very tempted to join.
would be for me and DS (age 4) DH is not interested.

Membership prices are elusive to find out. So if anyone can shed some light that would be great, also whether there are discounts or haggling possible?

I loved the swimming and spa in particular. and the family feel, and family activities.
DS currently has swimming lessons with Water Babies (£70 a month) so I’d be looking into doing those as David Lloyd too, so any tips would be welcome!

thank you 😊

My son and dil both work for DL so of course are very enthusiastic about it. It is really good for families with the kids clubs and some of the branches have lovely spa pools etc. I think they do sometimes have special offers on ( DIL is in sales) but often they don't need to as so many people join. The one they work out is currently at full capacity.

We pay £100/month per adult and £65 for our teenager.

SulkySeagull · 02/06/2024 22:01

I’m a big fan - the kids clubs are great and mean we get a bit of time to exercise alone.

swimming lessons will be extra though, they don’t come included.

We pay £100 per adult and £40 per under 10 for platinum

Membership charges will vary wildly depending on the location and the perceived luxuriousness of the branch/area. We pay £62/adult & £10/child per month plus DS’ swimming lesson is £37/month. We also get 1 free guest pass per month and I think it’s 10% off at the cafe.

There is a branch about 15 mins drive away that is much, much better than ours and their fees are much more expensive. We used to be able to use it but they stopped it a few years ago as the members of that gym objected strongly to members from a cheaper branch using their much more expensive one.

I wouldn't go near David Lloyd. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4997696-emma-hardy-suing-david-lloyd-gyms-over-trans-policy I know the DL near me allows men to pretend they're women too so it's not a one off. Dangerous for children and women.

Is there a Bannatynes gymn near you? Duncan B is a staunch supporter of women's rights and the protection of children so doesn't allow any dodgy men to pretend they are anything else.

Emma Hardy suing David Lloyd Gyms over trans policy | Mumsnet

Believed to be the first time in the UK that a service organisation is being sued (as opposed to cases being taken to employment tribunals ). The case...

I have just left. Was paying around £300 pm for my membership, 2 older DC, their swim lessons, Creche once a week for baby, coffee and occasional dinner at the club after said swim lessons.
Often struggled to get into the kids clubs on the Saturday morning and they're mainly colouring and a bit of dodgeball anyway.

Thanks so much! sounds great 😍
I’m hoping with DS occupied happily I won’t feel guilty about going off to exercise alone.

I thought swimming lessons would be extra, but if quite a bit less than £70 a month it offsets the cost because that’s what we pay for water babies currently 🤞

That great, I’m hoping the Ipswich one will be similar price.

I think it’s a bit more, but hopefully not too much more 🤞
great info about swimming lesson cost too, thank you 😊

Thanks for this, I am worried about how busy it might be,
I did read about classes getting really booked up.

I am going for tour on Saturday lunchtime, so maybe will get a feel for how busy it is then.

this truly is terrible, I am trying to get hold of head office so I can have a go at them

my daughter is 14, that a man could be in her changing room with her is disgusting and a terrible risk
