Phone holder for running

I have just started the C25K and found that the phone holder I gave is rubbish. Can anyone recommend one please? Ideally I'd like to be able access and use the controls whilst running.

I’ve had arm straps, waist belts and now I just buy leggings with big pockets!

I avoid taking it out once I’ve started though, but I use AirPods where you can just ask Siri to turn the music up or down.

onlyconnect · 15/03/2024 11:35

I need something because I'm juggling the C25K app with whatever podcast I'm listening to

I only take my phone on long runs and use a sleeve from decathlon on my arm.
I find legging go south fast if I put the phone in the pocket...

smart watch & bluetooth headphones for shorter runs.

LadyDanburysHat · 15/03/2024 11:40

I agree that leggings with a phone pocket are the best option.

peppapigpeppa · 15/03/2024 12:03

just carry it in your hand lots of leggings now how big pockets, all the other arm holders/waist band etc are just faff to be honest

shockeditellyou · 15/03/2024 12:07

I use a Flipbelt.

SwimmingIntoSpring · 15/03/2024 12:10

The podcast should cut in on theC25k App when they talk to you and your music etc cuts back in when they stop. I’ve used the nhs one a few times quite easily hands free. I just buy leggings with a pocket or use my jacket pocket

tattychicken · 15/03/2024 12:11

A cheap belt from decathlon holds my phone and my inhaler. I find my phone in pocket pulls down my leggings a bit. Have also used arm bands but find I prefer the belt.

Something like this:

onlyconnect · 15/03/2024 12:54

SwimmingintoSpring yes it does cut in and out but I need to change the volume occasionally or fast forward something.
I have an armband holder but it's a faff. I keep making emergency calls by accident, no idea how or why.

Leggings and shorts with pockets. Where they don’t, flipbelt.

Platedshoes · 15/03/2024 13:21

I don't usually take it, but a flip belt is best when I do or spibelt.

If you go for leggings with a phone pocket, make sure they also have a tie waist, or they fall down (or is that just me?)
.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/03/2024 18:40

I prefer waist belts. Leggings pockets tend to be too snug. Plus the phone gets sweaty.

I didn't like arm bands at all. C25k isn't so much of an issue, but over a longer distance the assymetry can cause gait issues and there's chaffing potential.

Some headphones have volume control on the earpieces.

SIacker · 15/03/2024 20:24

I only buy shorts or joggers with pockets, preferably one with a zip. I've had my key fall out of the pathetic pockets they put on women's clothing before.

I don't wear leggings for running.

I have a waist belt too but rarely use it.

madeinmanc · 16/03/2024 15:22

I've been through multiple options, too.
My current preference is a waist belt but I'm constantly having to tighten it which is annoying.

I also look like a bit of tit wearing it but the rest of my look isn't that great, either 😬

Strokethefurrywall · 16/03/2024 15:37

Just to append to my link, this vest has never failed me, I do multiple 10k+ distances and it's comfortable. I can also attach lights to it without rubbing.

Highly recommend

MyNameIsJane · 17/03/2024 07:21

Alternative suggestion for different headphones?

SoundPEATS Bluetooth 5.3... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BRZ23B6H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

These are a lot cheaper than other open ear headphones. 30% off voucher or there’s currently an outlet one for less than £20. You can adjust the volume on the headphones.

I absolutely love tikiboo bottoms. They do leggings, capri and shorts. When ordering just make sure you select the ones with side pockets. They’re really big deep pockets, I use them for my phone all the time. Back zip pocket for keys. They nearly always have bank holiday sales so check out their page over Easter weekend.

Arm bands are a faff if you want to keep checking your phone. I have bum bags, always just cheap ones from Amazon, Decathlon or Sports Direct. I do have a hydration backpack from Amazon too and pop my phone in the front pocket.

good luck with your running journey! Parkrun is a wonderful thing to get involved in, a 5k free run every Saturday morning at 9am, so many local parks have them.

soggyfields · 17/03/2024 07:38

I have a tiny thing, sort of a cross between a bum bag and a belt with pocket. I keep phone, keys, lip balm, tissues and spare hair bobble in it. Use AirPods so never need to get phone out.

sleepdeprivedby2 · 17/03/2024 08:29

I have had many running armbands over the years and they generally only last about 6 months as the Velcro on them is poor and they start to become unreliable.

I have currently had this for nearly 2 years now and it is brilliant! Also regularly use it on my bike too

sleepdeprivedby2 · 17/03/2024 08:42

Plus with no plastic in the way, all buttons are accessible

Tulipblank · 17/03/2024 08:53

Sweaty Betty leggings are great. Pockets, and dont fall down. Sale on now.

Otherwise id recommend this... amzn.eu/d/ddDP6XD

I think I'm right in saying a lot of people get a Garmin which mirrors many/most of the functions of a phone and that's why a lot of runners don't have a phone with them (happy to be corrected on this).

Can't phone on a garmin. I take my phone with me on a run for safety-if anything happens I can call my DH etc. also, although I have a decent garmin, the music compatibility is poor. I like to listen to podcasts when I run, and would need to download them before I set off. Which is a pain!
