Where can I buy workout clothes if I’m too mean to pay £50 for gym leggings?

I need a high street store so I can try them off. I have previously bought stuff on Vinted that doesn’t fit well.

decathlon
but you need to try them on. their sizing is french, i.e. quite small.

continentallentil · 07/08/2023 09:04

M and S have loads

Dreemhouse · 07/08/2023 09:06

I’ve got a couple of pairs of Sweaty Betty and Lululemon leggings and whilst they’re very nice, soft and comfortable, I would say Fabletics are even better. I think as a new member you can get 2 pairs for £24, just remember to cancel the subscription before the first payment comes out.

For other gym clothes, Vinted. If you don’t mind second hand. I’ve bought several things from there recently, for a fraction of the price brand new and I’ve been so pleased with what I’ve received.

I usually get mine in the Gymshark sale, however, I have some Tesco leggings that MIL bought me forever ago and they're really good quality! Not see through and haven't bobbled. They must be at least 5 years old!

H and M used to do nice active wear basics

Agreed with this. And will be well in your budget

I think bottom halves of fit kit are not where you want to cut too many corners ... otherwise it's false economy. I've H and M running leggings that are 5+ years old and still doi my well. They have been sweated in, washed numerous times, worn in baking heat and pulled on and off quite carelessly at times. You want fabric that can withstand these stresses and hopefully still make you feel really good in them, appearance wise Grin

If you are in it for the long haul go towards the best you can afford. Keep the receipt then if they don't deliver you take them back

BitOutOfPractice · 07/08/2023 09:25

M&S and Sainsburys. Trust me, I’ve tried all sorts and for quality v value these are the best.

OurChristmasMiracle · 07/08/2023 09:30

Nike leggings I live in but I always get them when they are on sale/cheap. Often via very or studio so can be returned

Muhwanda · 07/08/2023 09:30

M&S and sainsburys activewear is decent, but really keep your eyes on the sales, sweaty Betty have great sales as do Nike. Nike in particular you can pick some great leggings up for under £30

tinselvestsparklepants · 07/08/2023 09:34

Get one thing that fits well from a shop and then go back to Vinted for same brand and size.

AuntieStella · 07/08/2023 09:37

Decathlon

Their stuff is excellent and well within your budget. It's easily the best VFM for leggings/shorts/capris

Don't go for the over-priced stuff, where you have to wait for a sale, though the performance of both New Balance and Nike might make that worthwhile

And check out TKMaxx - it's variable what they have in, but I've bought serious performance brands like 2XU at a huge discount. Also very good for tops in general, where comfortableness is more of a factor than performance.

manontroppo · 07/08/2023 09:51

I really rate M&S Good Move, and by far my longest lasting gym wear was some capri short I bought one January from Tesco - they are about 10 years old and worn at least weekly; they are only now starting to look a bit tatty.

I don't see a vast amount of difference between Sweaty Betty, Lulumon and midrange stuff from M&S; Decathlon stuff can be hit and miss - some great, some not so much.

M&S Goodmove are excellent.

definitely

Hippopotaperson · 07/08/2023 09:58

I’ve got some M&S Goodmove leggings and my usual size 12 feels tight. Am I just bigger than I thought it are they meant to feel tight? They’re difficult to get on and off!

Supermarket, H&M, Primark, Matalan, sports shops, charity shops... lots of options with varied prices.

Yeah exercise leggings are out of control.

5 years ago they were £6/7

I had a glance on New Look yesterday (so nowhere particularly fancy) and they go for £15 a pop for a pair of basic leggings.

What a racket.

Yes, I agree.

The Decathlon yoga bottoms (which are really good quality) were £9.99 in 2020. A year ago, they were £12.99.

I’ve just looked and they’re £19.99, temporarily on a special offer at £17.99. The price rises are nuts.

stealthbanana · 07/08/2023 10:16

Gap! Wait til they have an offer on. It’s the best most hard wearing active wear in that price range imo.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/08/2023 11:04

If you can find them, MPH . It's a IS brave that I've come across in TK Maxx very occasionally. I think they might be a "tall" brand. Either way, I have some capri length gym leggings of theirs which had 10 years hard use before they finally gave up the ghost a few weeks ago.

Yep totally! I assume it’s driven chiefly by athleisure / wellness trends, so these items are now sold as a lifestyle & fashion thing rather than simply functional items (however they are simply functional items).

They’re just trying it on.

floribunda18 · 07/08/2023 11:08

Decathlon, Amazon, Sports Direct.

I don't mind getting some branded Nike and Adidas stuff as it can be very good but usually when it's on sale.

floribunda18 · 07/08/2023 11:09

I've never paid as little as £6/7 for leggings though, I assume they would be splitting in five minutes or so thin that my knickers would show through.

floribunda18 · 07/08/2023 11:09

Also TU (Sainsbury's) has some great stuff in.

floribunda18 · 07/08/2023 11:13

H&M also do the best sports bras I've ever had. DDs and I all have them now and they are great for DD1 (size 8, 32B bra) (S) DD2 (size 10 - 34DD bra) (M) and me (size 12/14 36 DD bra) (L).

I think they were from sports direct or somewhere like that. They’re the thick, slightly shiny sort of lyrca and not see through at all.
