High protein yoghurt that isn't full of rubbish/sugar?

tulips27 · 04/02/2023 08:42

A physio has recommended me to have high-protein yoghurt after exercising. The trouble is, all the ones I looked at have added sugar which I'm sure makes them taste lovely but I can't have them. Bizarrely, the small pouch-type ones that seem aimed at exercisers seem to have the most added stuff.

Could anyone recommend one that doesn't have added sugar? Especially a pouch type one that I could take to the gym.

Just the Fage Greek yoghurt?

HolibobsinApril · 04/02/2023 08:49

Skyr?

LilOnline · 04/02/2023 08:50

Yep Fage 0% natural green yoghurt

tulips27 · 04/02/2023 08:50

Those are both good but I think they don't have as much protein as the post-exercise-type ones.

Skimmed milk?
Plain yoghurt?
Plus protein powder??

LilOnline · 04/02/2023 08:50

Greek yoghurt not green yoghurt!!

tulips27 · 04/02/2023 08:51

Maybe I could add protein to the Fage one 🤔

Skyr Naural
Or just one of the strained Greek Yogurts.

I think the idea is to eat protein straight after a weights / strength training workout, so any portable protein will do?

ButtOutBobsMum · 04/02/2023 08:52

Fage and Skyr are the best. If you like a flavored yoghurt invest in some Flavdrops from My Protein. They might look expensive but you literally only need a couple of drops so last for ages. I also use them to flavor porridge and coffee.

LilOnline · 04/02/2023 08:52

Mix protein powder into the Fage/skyr yoghurt for added protein. Many of the unflavoured protein powders have no/low sugars

ColaBottlesYum · 04/02/2023 08:52

(I am saying this cos I think the high protein yoghurts taste really unpleasant so even at the height of my protein obsession I steered away from them or ate them like medicine holding my nose haha).

tulips27 · 04/02/2023 08:54

"protein obsession" lol 😆

For vegans Alpro do a Greek Style high protein
For anyone else choose actual Greek yoghurt not Greek style

EyesOnThePies · 04/02/2023 08:54

Greek yog is a very good post workout protein source.

You don’t need heavily marketed, packeted overpriced processed stuff.

Photosymphysis · 04/02/2023 08:54

Skyr, definitely. Nothing added at all.

tulips27 · 04/02/2023 08:55

Thanks everyone. This board has always given me the advice I needed. 😍

Skimmed milk is 3.6g of protein in 100ml. That is a lot isn't it. One mug of milk is like 10g. Not bad. Cheap(er) too.

ColaBottlesYum · 04/02/2023 08:57

Haha. Good luck OP!

10% fat Greek yogurt with a sprinkle of seeds, berries & a drizzle of honey ... in your own tub. Recommended by the Zoe app ( as in the diet)

Rosalinde · 04/02/2023 09:01

Skyr

MaverickGooseGoose · 04/02/2023 09:03

Fage 5% has plenty of protein. Protein yogurt is gross.

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 04/02/2023 09:03

I have total 5% and two scoops of unflavoured organic protein powder.

Lorddenning1 · 04/02/2023 09:03

These are what I'm currently allowed, low fat and low sugar.

Nom Nom Reusable Smoothie Pouch/Reusable Yoghurt Pouch 250ml Large Capacity Squeeze Pouch x 4 amzn.eu/d/3sd4mnr

if you want the pouch kind for the gym, how about these? Then you can mix Skyr with protein powder and take your own

Nutellanjam · 04/02/2023 09:06

another vote for skyr- it’s great, in fact I use it as a replacement for sour cream, mayo etc now too
