Fatandfedup01 · 13/07/2022 18:58

As per the title.

I am overweight by about 5 stone. I feel like shit all the time and even when I eat well I cannot shift weight. My belly is really bothering me, it’s like a double belly with an extra shelf under my boobs!

I am type 1 diabetic and struggle so much with my weight.

I am 5’3 and weigh 16.7stone.

It’s really not quite that simple actually but thanks for your reply.

It’s simple, but also extremely hard.

I know how

Calorie deficit, straight training, 8 hours sleep, 2 litres water, 10,000 + steps s day

1gran protein per 1 pound of weight

You should lose a pound a week

It's very simple really

Sorry to sidetrack on the thread, but how do you manage to eat this much protein every day? I've been trying to eat 2g per kilo of bodyweight, but it's so much. I worked out it's the equivalent of about 15 eggs per day, or 600g of meat. Obviously some of it comes in other forms, like nuts or yoghurt, but those are small fry compared to meat. How is it physically possible to eat this much and be in a calorie deficit? It doesn't add up.

Fat2fin · 14/07/2022 12:31

Am genuinely sacred to. I went in once and it was just full of blokes on machines so I just used the treadmill.

But it's the machines I need really for toning.

Wish we had a women's only near

I eat protein yogurts, protein bars, add protein powder to water

lizziebizie · 14/07/2022 12:36

I'm not sure what to advise about diet, I'll leave that to those more knowledgeable, but could you do the couch to 5k app and Parkrun. That would surely help?

I don't want to eat processed food, and if this were a normal human diet it shouldn't be necessary. What did people do before the golden age of whey protein? In any case, it's still a huge amount of protein powder (which tastes disgusting).

lizziebizie · 14/07/2022 12:38

And do you have a smart watch to track exercise and movement?

A normal human diet 😂

Well I've had a gastric sleeve so cannot eat a 'normal human diet' so I have protein shakes and yogurts.

It allows me to get a high amount of protein per day without eating a large amount of food (which I can't do)

TheLeadbetterLife · 14/07/2022 12:46

I mean a normal human diet in the sense of non-processed, you know, food. You can't tell me that it's not possible for a human to eat the required amount of nutrients without protein powder.

We're supposed to eat 9 or 10 pieces of fruit and veg per day apparently - that's the best part of a kilo of plant matter - plus half a kilo or so of meat / fish / eggs.

That's an insane amount of food. Something doesn't add up.

I'm supposed to eat 60g of protein a day for my weight.

Half a pack (90g) of morrisons ready to eat piri chicken breast is 27 g of protein. So pretty much half my daily target.

That's not a lot to eat at all. Are you getting your measurements mixed up?

Even with 90% of my stomach gone I can manage to hit my protein every day, with or without protein shakes and yogurts.

Fat2fin · 14/07/2022 12:53

I don't know where you're getting half a kilo of meat from...

100g chicken breast is 31g protein. So most women will need 200g of chicken a day to hit target.

Not 500g

emmathedilemma · 14/07/2022 12:54

@TheLeadbetterLife i agree, i've been following RHfitness plan .....well I say following, I find it almost impossible to hit their macros without eating whey protein (it doesn't agree with me) and scoffing highly processed protein bars. They have me on 127g of protein per day. Today I've had a large pancake made with high protein soya milk, half an egg (the mix makes 2 portions), oats and I added a portion of flavourless pea protein to it, had a dollop of soft cheese with veg sticks for snack, a tin of tuna, a boiled egg and 2 veggie rice cakes with my lunch, will put peanut butter on a bagel later (don't get dinner til late tonight so i have a lighter lunch and a bigger snack in the afternoon), and I've got chicken in tonight's dinner......and I am still 28g of protein short for the day but running out of calories.

TheLeadbetterLife · 14/07/2022 12:55

I don't think that adds up. I weight 75kg, they say 2g of protein per kilo (or 1g per lb in old money), so that's 150g. Any given meat, fish etc has about 25% protein in it, so a 200g chicken breast has 50g of protein.

I'm not going to eat the equivalent of three chicken breasts per day.

Fat2fin · 14/07/2022 12:57

I've been told by a nutritionalist that I need 55g of protein a day.

I don't know who is telling you that you need 150 a day. Unless you're a competing body builder?!!

How to get rid of this belly!?
Fat2fin · 14/07/2022 12:59

You're supposed to have 0.8g of protein per kg.

If you're 75 kg you should be aiming for 60g of protein per day!

TheLeadbetterLife · 14/07/2022 13:00

I literally replied to a post in this thread that said you need 1g of protein per lb of body weight, as well as a calorie deficit.

There are numerous resources, as @emmathedilemma pointed out, that suggest this level of protein is necessary to avoid losing muscle while dieting.

It's physically impossible to consume this much without adding processed food (and I say this as an absolute gannet), and therefore I call bullshit.

Fat2fin · 14/07/2022 13:07

😂 Right.

emmathedilemma · 14/07/2022 13:08

@TheLeadbetterLife it may come as no surprise to you that RHFitness also market their own brand of protein shakes ;)

Well there you have it.

It's also probably no coincidence that the fabled 2+ litres of water we must all drink per day has no scientific basis and is entirely promulgated by the bottled water industry.

MobLife · 14/07/2022 13:13

@Fatandfedup01 have you done a daily diary of what you're eating and drinking?
Would you be willing to share it here?

TheLeadbetterLife · 14/07/2022 13:14

Oh, and of course at the same time as eating all this protein we're meant to be going vegan too, as heavily promoted by the manufacturers of spooky fake meats.

Beautiful3 · 14/07/2022 13:14

I was the same as you. In my 40s I developed a massive belly. I got rid of most of it in a year, through fasting and walking. I'm now a size 10, still going at it as I'd like to be more trim. It really works.

It's not that simple in practise, but this is correct advice.
My fitness instructor always says weight loss is 80% food, 20% exercise, and the only way to be sure you're in a calorie deficit is to track everything you eat and drink.
I love the Nutracheck app as it calculates what your calorie intake should be, and you get a bigger allowance the more steps you take/exercise you do, so it's encouraging.
Agree with an earlier poster that it's really important to check for diastasis recti (ab separation), and concentrate on exercises for that and lots of walking initially.
