Fatandfedup01 · 13/07/2022 18:58

As per the title.

I am overweight by about 5 stone. I feel like shit all the time and even when I eat well I cannot shift weight. My belly is really bothering me, it’s like a double belly with an extra shelf under my boobs!

I am type 1 diabetic and struggle so much with my weight.

I am 5’3 and weigh 16.7stone.

Hi

Have you got a Gymophobics gym near you ?

They are ladies only gym they will help you with a low sugar diet plan and the gym circuit is only 30 minutes long and some offer non surgical lipo which really helps on stubborn areas

xx

Tapiocapudding · 13/07/2022 20:05

I'm afraid I don't have any advice but I feel your pain. I have been trying to shift weight off my belly too without any success. It's so depressing. What age are you? It's much harder to shift weight when you get to my age (50's).

Selinna · 13/07/2022 20:06

Have you tried the fitnessblender website? It's so motivating and healthy, I absolutely love it. The fitter you get, the smaller your belly will also get. You can't target just the belly on its own; there is no quick fix.

cottagegardenflower · 13/07/2022 20:14

sad to say you need to stick to a weight reduction plan and thats the simple answer.

Rafferty10 · 13/07/2022 20:22

I agree a weight loss plan is the only answer, plus some exercise but it is 90% diet.
Could you cut out carbs and sugar and replace with vegetables and nuts/ berries.
Drink only water, tea and cofee...those things alone would shift weight quickly

Fatandfedup01 · 13/07/2022 20:24

Thanks for the replies.

I turned 40 this year.

I know that I can’t spot reduce areas but I was hoping that someone had a similar problem, I mean how have I managed to get a double belly!? I’m also bloated and the top roll feels really firm

I do try to eat quite low carb anyway as I have Type 1 and carbs are not good.

I just don’t seem to lose weight even when I stick to a healthy diet. I seem to be stuck at this weight and the odd thing is even if I ate loads and loads I stay at the same weight!

You have type 1 diabetes not type 2?

Tapiocapudding · 13/07/2022 20:41

Me too! I ate more than normal on holiday recently and my weight didn't change! I also have a firm bit at the top, what is that all about!!?

I've been taking kelp supplements for about 5 weeks to try to boost my iodine levels as low iodine can affect thyroid function. So far no result unfortunately😥so I can't even recommend that. Fasting worked for me for a couple of years but doesn't seem to have any effect now. I fasted from 12-18 hours a day ( I work shifts so meal times varried). It might be worth trying it if you've never done it. Although maybe not if you are diabetic, check with a health professional first.

Valhalla17 · 13/07/2022 20:45

Well you are eating too much for the level of activity you do, that's all it is. So you need to eat a bit less and move a bit more unfortunately.

Can you give us a typical day of food and activity? Then perhaps we can make some helpful suggestions. I'm in the same boat but know I only lose with tons of walking and exercise. Belly is last to go!

Suzi888 · 13/07/2022 20:46

No idea, but following. Would love to lose some tummy weight. I’m walking, cutting out sugary treats and carbs. I’ve lost about 4lbs.

texinthecity · 13/07/2022 20:49

Do you have lots of hypos and end up eating sugary things to rectify? Sometimes with type 1 it can be a vicious circle and you end up over eating calories to fix hypos (I am type 1 also)

LostInTheColonies · 13/07/2022 20:51

What is "quite low carb"? 50g? 20g? Have you thought about the likes of Type1Grit / read Dr Bernstein? There's quite a sizeable community of t1 diabetics eating LCHF now which you may have come across? DD (13) is t1 & we aim for lowing (60g) but not easy! I know lower would be better for her... some resistance to this!!

Knackeredmommy · 13/07/2022 20:57

I have diastasis recti, whatever I did, I had a double tummy. I did specific DR exercises which helped and do walking ab exercises on youtube. Grow with Jo is a good one.

thesonicoscillator · 13/07/2022 20:58

I am the same as you in shape although not diabetic and would love to get rid of it. The worse bit is above my belly, I just can't shift it, although some days it looks smaller than others

Sunny123456 · 13/07/2022 21:01

Download my fitness pal app and track and weigh what you are eating and drinking. It can be helpful as a starting point. Hope this helps.

alllo · 13/07/2022 21:14

Cut out processed foods and drinks. That's it. Eat and drink anything else.

Horrible at first but you get used to it and the weight will drop off, it'll help your health overall too.

Sisisimone · 13/07/2022 21:19

Kittycooo · 13/07/2022 20:31

Wow. You really are a special kind of arsehole to post this

Passthecake30 · 13/07/2022 21:23

I’d suggest tracking calories in MFP too. Set yourself a reasonable target for your activity range etc. I bet if you lost some weight your belly would reduce… and then you could do exercise to target that area, I recommend Pilates for a good strong core.

Fupa · 13/07/2022 21:27

Intermittent fasting.

Dr Jason Fung.

Michael Mosley.

SmellyWellyWoo · 13/07/2022 21:36

You're carrying too much weight everywhere, not just your tummy. I'm not being unkind, I have been very overweight several times. Sorting out your eating will massively help, rather than exercise.

BlueMumDays · 13/07/2022 21:40

Bless you, that looks really uncomfortable.

If you're feeling like shit anyway, there's not much point launching into a unsustainable exercise regime, or miserable diet plan. I try really hard always to add, not to restrict. So instead of saying "I'm not allowed bread" I'll say "I'm allowed good quality, wholegrain bread, and I'll make sure I have some tomatoes with it" etc. (this works well for me, because I can't afford much good quality food 🤣🤣)

I'd also think about gut bacteria. Food diversity, something pickled, and/or maybe probiotics?

iBrows · 13/07/2022 22:13

You have to lose the excess fat via caloric deficit. This is easier said than done, and there is no shame in approaching the GP for a referral to weight loss services.

Best of luck on your journey

Fatandfedup01 · 13/07/2022 22:20

@Tapiocapudding i did get my thyroid check by my GP and it was borderline under active but he wouldn’t prescribe anything… I did look in to self supplementing with iodine.

@texinthecity I I don’t hypo very often and luckily I am very controlled with treating it.

@LostInTheColonies when I low carb I get my carbs from vegetables mainly. I eat salad at lunch and have either fish or chicken with veg and cauliflower rice. If I snack I have a small apple with nut butter. I spoke with protein also so I do need some carbs at each meal.

@Kittycooo Yes I am Type 1. It’s a lifelong autoimmune condition that is not caused by lifestyle or weight. HTH.

@Sisisimone thanks 🙂

@SmellyWellyWoo yes I know I am

@BlueMumDays thank you, yes I do feel bloated a lot if the time. I did think about do a full food allergy test just to see if I’m missing something.

I do know that I need to eat better and try to exercise more but it is very disheartening when nothing really happens.

I know how

Calorie deficit, straight training, 8 hours sleep, 2 litres water, 10,000 + steps s day

1gran protein per 1 pound of weight

You should lose a pound a week

It's very simple really
