If you wear Brooks running shoes, what other shoes have you tried?

I have v severe knock knees and also get metatarsalgia due to the way my foot hits the ground. I have orthotics and have always worn Brooks Adrenaline and been perfectly happy.

My last pair has finally died and I have had the 2022 Adrenalines for a few weeks but the shape has definitely changed and on one foot, they are rubbing badly on my ankle.

Normally I would wait to run them in but they are not getting better so I'm unfortunately going to have to return them.

What other supportive (for the overpronation) but soft cushioned (for the metatarsals) shoes could work? I've heard Hoka are good but have never tried them so wondering what people's experiences are.

I got some Mizunas from a running shop, they are great and have really helped my plantar fasciitis - I over probate. Sorry I don't know what model but the people at the running shop were really helpful. They feel like I'm walking on springs!

Thanks @lurchermummy, I will go and have a look at those!

I've got the Hoka Ahari 6 and they're unbelievably comfortable!

TigerRag · 03/07/2022 17:34

I found Hoka too narrow. Every other brand I've had, I've been able to get the standard width. The standard with on Hokas for me, is too narrow and that's going up a size.

You're better off going to a running shop and trying some on.

greenacrylicpaint · 03/07/2022 17:38

asics gel kayano

2SugarsLoadsaMilk · 03/07/2022 17:39

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm going to go to a running shop @TigerRag but I always think useful to go with a few shoes in mind as I've sometimes found the shops don't have all the shoes to try on so I might have to try more than one place!

I have Brooks Ravenna for rolling duck feet with very low ankle bones. They've been good so far

lurchermummy · 03/07/2022 18:56

The running shop I went to told me that Asics tend to come up narrow, he was the one who recommended the Mizunas to me

xsquared · 03/07/2022 19:11

Asics GT 2000 9. They are narrow though, and you will need to go up at least half a size.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 03/07/2022 19:22

I was loyal Saucony Triumph user for about 10 years, but was going off them as the design changed over the years. I swapped into Brooks about a year ago after a fitting at a running shop - so going from Brooks to Saucony might be an option for you. Good luck in your quest!

Tiddlywinkly · 03/07/2022 19:25

Yep, another vote for Mizunas

prettybird · 03/07/2022 19:31

Asics: but go up half or a whole size.

I have a wide front of foot and a very high arch but a narrow heel.

Aintnosupermum · 15/07/2022 12:49

Saucony work for me. The running shop did a good job of finding the right shoes for my feet. I think it’s worth spending the extra.

PurpleDaisies · 15/07/2022 12:52

ASICS GT 2000 for me too. I love mine. The gel Kayano are more cushioned though. I’m considering those for longer distances.

Youre best going to a running shop though.

Desmondo2021 · 15/07/2022 12:55

I've tried most of the ASICS stability range... Most recently Kayanos and GT2000s. I've just got Saucony last week for the first time, the Omni 20, done about 100k in them so far and am super impressed.

Cotswoldmama · 15/07/2022 12:57

I like ASICS, I don't find I ever need to go up a size but maybe I just like a snug fit!

massistar · 15/07/2022 13:06

I used ASICS for years but my sports physio got me on to Saucony Omni which have been brilliant. They are super supportive and very comfortable.

emmathedilemma · 15/07/2022 14:38

I went from the Brooks Adrenaline 19 & 20 into New Balance 860s v11 but the v12 didn't feel so comfy so I'm now wearing the Saucony Omni.

LordEmsworth · 15/07/2022 16:40

My top 3 shoes that suit me/my running style/my feet are Brooks Adrenaline, Saucony Guide, and Asics GT2000.

NeverHadABetterBitOfButter · 15/07/2022 19:55

Do you size up in Saucony?

(I wear 5 in normal shoes but 6 in Brooks. I've tried some Hoka but they are way too narrow around the toe area (am a 5.5 in Hoka))

LordEmsworth · 15/07/2022 20:02

I size up in all my runners! I am a 5 in normal shoes, but go for a 5.5 or 6 in running shoes - otherwise they're just a bit too small...

fellrunner85 · 15/07/2022 20:04

You've got to size up in all running shoes. I go up half a size in Nike and Brooks, or a full size in Saucony.
Hoka need a full size up as well, plus wide fit. I don't have wide feet...

Desmondo2021 · 15/07/2022 20:57

I'm a full size up in any running shoe but went 1.5 up in the Kayanos.

KittenKong · 15/07/2022 20:58

You have to go to a proper runners shop that does a gait analysis. I have Saucony’s these days.

You really don't. 99% of the time they'll tell you you overpronate and sell you stability shoes, which won't fix the root of the issue.
