Exercise exhaustion

I wouldn't say I do a lot of exercise but I'm exhausted. Every workout/run, I'm pushing myself through. It helps hugely with my mental health though and, as I say, it's not even that I over-train so I shouldn't need a break.

Those that exercise regularly, how do you know the 'right' amount?

I would love it if my exercise gave me energy rather than sapping it!

Also, what things did your GP check out? What did you to go see them about?

Serious runners never run every day. The have a training plan that always involves rest days and easy days

That's generally true. But nor is the OP running every day, she's only running 3x a week, and (comparatively) low mileage. What she's doing is still too much for her, though.

That said, some of the most serious runners do run every day. Ron Hill had a run streak of 60-odd years. That's out of the ordinary, though!

OP - you say for your runs -- "I'm very slow and plod along, my heart rate stays around 135/140 doing 11-12 minute miles and I'm usually on the phone to a family member as I run."

I find I get more tired if I talk on the phone while exercising. Sure you can't be breathing optimally if you're talking whilst jogging. It could just be more, but I need to focus on my breathing whilst running.

Must admit I'd struggle to be on a phone call whilst running, they do sound a bit like junk miles dare I say.

Do you refuel after a run OP? I find, especially as I get older, that a protein shake/drink thing after each run really helps me to manage exhaustion and be able to function for the rest of the day.
