M&S Goodmove vs Sweaty Betty

morechocolateneededtoday · 01/01/2022 11:41

I am upgrading my fitness clothes (particularly leggings) as everything I own is more than 8 years old. I have read lots on here recommending M&S and Sweaty Betty. I love them both but at first try in the shop, cannot justify the cost of Sweaty Betty Powers.

Anyone tried both? Do M&S last as long or shall I take the plunge? I kept my previous pairs (mix of brands) for 8+ years and would want the next to last as long

Any recommendations for plain crew neck sweatshirts too?

I have bought all of my SB on eBay for a fraction of the price. It’s really great.

My favourite leggings are the super sculpt. They are brilliant.

Luckystar1 · 01/01/2022 11:46

(Sorry should say, they are by and large second hand but often barely worn)

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 01/01/2022 11:47

I have M&S Goodmove leggings and they are great. I can’t see how Sweaty Betty could be 3-4 times better ( I think SB are £75 to M&S £20-odd). They wash and tumble dry well.

I have a SB sweatshirt which is well made, but not snuggly on the inside. I’m not convinced it’s vastly superior to a cheaper sweatshirt but it is a good colour and nice oversized fit, which is I guess what I paid for.

I’ve just ordered another pair of Good Move leggings because the ones I bought 2 years ago are great for walking in and are still going strong. I have some of the lighter crop GM leggings for lake dips too, over a swimsuit (they wring out really well so aren’t heavy in a backpack for carrying on walking after).

Hedonism · 01/01/2022 11:49

I've got both!

The Sweaty Bettys are my favourite and have been worn and washed at least twice a week since I got them 6 months ago and are still as good as new.

The m&s ones are not as comfortable. Simultaneously slightly too tight but also need hoiking up occasionally on a long run. I still wear them though, they are fine just not as good as the Sweaty Betty ones.... But also fraction of the cost!

FourEyesGood · 01/01/2022 12:52

I get my SB leggings on eBay (usually second hand) and have paid between £25 and £45 depending on the style and pattern. They’re definitely better than my M&S and other leggings. I currently have four pairs and I wear them 4-6 times a week for running and gym sessions. They fit well, have useful pockets and hold me in, so although I shouldn’t be so vain, they’re way more flattering than other leggings.

morechocolateneededtoday · 01/01/2022 13:50

Thank you so much everyone!

I will start with M&S and keep an eye on eBay for the Sweaty Betty leggings to give them a try. My intention is to work out most days so if things go to plan, these will be getting much more use than my 8 year old ones

SB sale on ….

But equally M&S are pretty good

Laufeythejust · 01/01/2022 13:57

SB power leggings for me. They are so expensive but there’s a sale on at the minute and if you know a student they get a code for 20% off.

I spent a fortune 2 years ago and got 4 pairs and they all still look like new! They never fall down, down or go see through and have a pocket- definitely worth the investment.

VaguelyInteresting · 01/01/2022 14:00

SB are really good value for money- especially if you get them in the sale. I’ve got leggings ive had for years, that I’ve worn & washed hundreds of times and are still great.

morechocolateneededtoday · 01/01/2022 14:21

Aaah now I'm not so sure. I can get SB for £37 in my size in sale right now if not bothered about print (which I'm not)... or M&S for £14-18. Was leaning towards latter and thinking look for SB at £30ish on eBay later once I fully commit to fitness rather than with good intentions and no action just yet!

Everyone raves about quality though which keeps making me second guess myself. Environmentally, investing once and not replacing for a while obviously much better

SB leggings are amazing. I have some that are years old, washed at least once a week (sometimes twice), and still look new/fit brilliantly. I was originally very annoyed about this because of the price 😂 but if you wait for sales it’s much more reasonable. I got all my pregnancy running bits in a SB warehouse sale where brand new leggings were £10-15!

AtillatheHun · 01/01/2022 14:30

I got a pair of sb power leggings for Christmas and they are hands down the best leggings I’ve ever had, including Lululemon. Some of the Gap ones are also excellent and better than M&S but they have such poor stock levels that they never have my size any more; you might get lucky!

ZoeTheThornyDevil · 01/01/2022 14:31

I have an old pair of SB thermal running tights that are still in really good nick. But my everyday workout leggings and sports bras are M&S and I'm very happy with them so far.

Thiswayorthatway · 01/01/2022 14:39

Very happy with M&S who also do funky prints, and plains, all with side and back phone pocket like SB.

rookiemere · 01/01/2022 14:51

I bought about 7 pairs of M&S Good Move leggings during lockdown. I thinking they're great and a really good quality product for the price point.

morechocolateneededtoday · 01/01/2022 14:56

OK original plan it is!
Out of interest, would SB discount for NHS or students apply to sale items?

I’ve never even heard about M & S Good Move so thanks for starting this thread @morechocolateneededtoday! I’ve been looking for new yet expensive stuff and this may be a good option.

AmandaHugenkiss · 01/01/2022 15:14

I’ve got other m&s workout stuff which is great but not the leggings, so can’t comment on those. My SB power leggings are the bomb. Bit warm in the good weather is my only complaint.

Stellaris22 · 01/01/2022 16:15

I've been buying Good Move from M & S and they're fantastic. I can do running on the treadmill, fitness classes and strength training in them. Really comfy and squat proof, really recommend the brand for leggings and tops.

I think SB are worth it if you can get them in the sale. I just got 2 pairs (one as a Christmas present so cost me nothing and another pair in the sale). I got these: www.sweatybetty.com/shop/bottoms/leggings/power-gym-leggings-SB5400_SlateGrey.html?dwvar_SB5400__SlateGrey_color=slategrey&dwvar_SB5400__SlateGrey_leg-length=fulllength&cgid=leggings&tile=5.0#start=5
and these: www.sweatybetty.com/shop/bottoms/leggings/all-day-gym-leggings-SB6989_Black_FullLength.html?dwvar_SB6989__Black__FullLength_color=black&dwvar_SB6989__Black__FullLength_leg-length=fulllength&cgid=leggings&tile=2.0#start=2
I've worn them both for working out and love them both. I've got some Good move tops and shorts which I like too but not as much as the SB leggings. I've had the tops and shorts for about a year and a half and they are still in great condition. Can't comment on that aspect of the SB leggings yet.

Twilightstarbright · 01/01/2022 19:19

I have three pairs of SB power leggings that I got in the sale two years ago and still look perfect despite being worn a lot.

DillDanding · 01/01/2022 19:22

Ew to buying 2nd hand leggings.

Anyway - to me, SB Power Leggings are vastly superior and worth the price.

morechocolateneededtoday · 01/01/2022 21:04

Thank you all. I have just ordered one from each in their sales; I need to buy 3-4 pairs of leggings so one of each feels like a good start.

There is definitely something great about SB with so many good reviews everywhere I look, the super high price kept making me think twice. By the sound of it, there is no need to pay full price if willing to wait so I will put my patience to the test if I fall in love with them like everyone else has!
