Do you ever do 2 exercise classes back to back?

I've noticed super fit types at my gym doing 2 classes one after the other. I think doing yoga after body pump would work, good for stretching but could never do 2 cardio classes in a row!

Today I impressed myself though. Turned up at the gym an hour early by mistake so I did 50 mins fast hill walking on the treadmill then body pump. Then had a massive brunch which, to be fair, I did earn Grin

I do pump then attack twice a week
I do balance and attack once a week

stripedbananas · 01/08/2021 16:19

I used to do 2-3 classes back to back sometimes but the first would be something strenuous like body pump followed by yoga then Pilates

Herecomesthesun70 · 01/08/2021 16:20

I quite often do combat & pump together

RookieRoo · 01/08/2021 16:21

I have done. And a gym session beforehand to warm up whilst waiting.

stripedbananas · 01/08/2021 16:21

And I was definitely not super fit back then and am even less so now. I did lose a lot of weight and toned up well after 3 months but work got in the way so it was never sustainable

ActonSquirrel · 01/08/2021 16:22

This morning i cycled to the gym, did a Blaze class (HIIT circuits) then a body pump class and cycled home.

Pushing 40. It isn't hard.

stripedbananas · 01/08/2021 16:22

I'd also go for a swim after classes. It all depends how the classes are lined up for the day

devildeepbluesea · 01/08/2021 16:22

Quite regularly. I'll do a hour's weights in the gym then Group Fight.

If at home I'll do bodypump then teach a group Fight class via zoom.

I'm fit but not mega fit. I'm also carrying rather too much weight and am 48.

Spin then pump twice a week. Sometimes the other way round.
I like it, you are fatigued before you start and the work starts immediately.
But measure your output ( watts in spin / kegs & technique in pump) and compare to stand alone classes, as it may not work for you.
Personally I would not do 2 big cardio classes, but cardio & strength seems ok.

PilatesPeach · 01/08/2021 16:27

Yes, I am an instructor so I do 2 sometimes 3 back to back but yes plenty of my classes will do 2 back to back so today LBT then yoga, sometimes LBT then aqua (and my aquas are killers!) or sometimes step then LBT. Some even do 2 aquas back to back.

idontlikealdi · 01/08/2021 17:13

Yes. I do powerwave and HIIT or circuits and HIIT. Might as well while I'm there!

PalmsandCharms · 01/08/2021 17:22

All the time in my 20s and 30s. Just haven't got the same level of energy in my late 40s sadly

AnnaSW1 · 01/08/2021 17:30

I used to. Too lazy now though!

Caffeinemonster · 01/08/2021 17:31

I think it totally depends on the class and circumstances as to whether it’s worthwhile doing this. I often used to run in the morning then go to Pilates late in the day. But if I do a spin class I go all out. I just wouldn’t work as hard in back to back classes. And I prefer doing something every day rather than say a longer session 3 times a week.

Lightningrain · 01/08/2021 17:42

If they’re different classes yes but not two cardio or two strength working the same muscles.

It would be so bare to give both classes 100% if they’re the same/similar. I know people that do back to back spin classes and they admit to holding back in the first one so they’ve got sufficient energy left. I’d much rather go all out in one class.

I’m also wary of doing too much at once as I feel like it’s asking for an injury. Much better for me to do a short workout several days per week than to try and do multiple workouts in one day.

TheatricalGiraffe · 01/08/2021 18:01

I usually do, i'll either do a mile swim followed by a class or two classes back to back..

The gym is the opposite direction to my house from work (work is the halfway point) so I don't want to cycle for 3 miles to work out for 40 minutes then cycle home again so I try and make it as worth it as possible

Spodge · 01/08/2021 18:31

I don't do classes but a typical weights session in the gym takes me an hour and three quarters.

Loads of people at our gym do back to back classes, though.

Flingleflooooooooo · 01/08/2021 18:38

I love doing a balance class after pump. I get crampy if I don't stretch really well after pump.

HavelockVetinari · 01/08/2021 18:39

I'd say the vast majority of folk doing back-to-back classes either are child-free, work part time or are a SAHP. I can't imagine a full-time working parent managing it unless they have either a lot of help (cleaner/nanny) or teenage children.

Dozer · 01/08/2021 18:42

At my gym most 60 min group cardio classes are around 50 mins cardio - including some below the ‘cardio’ heart zone - and (for me) 300 or so calories (according to fitbit), so doing two ‘back to back’ is fine.

A hour’s jogging (for me) is 600 cal and higher heartrate.

Dozer · 01/08/2021 18:42

Don’t need to be ‘super fit’ at all IMO.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives · 01/08/2021 18:45

I used to do combat then pump. And an abs class then spin or step.

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 02/08/2021 08:09

I'm doing hiit today so no way I could do another class after!

I used to do Metafit and then go in the gym but that's only a short class, all be it pretty intense. I did spin and then some metafit type thing a few times but it was a bit too much and I was always hungry and needed dinner! I often gym or class and then swim but there's nothing on our class timetable at the moment that I'd want to do that fall back to back.

Hopeislost · 02/08/2021 17:26

No, I usually go all out in classes so I'm a sweaty mess at the end! The only exception is classes that are body part focused (eg bums&tums, core), I might go and do some upper body weights afterwards.

Also, you deserve to eat food, regardless of whether you've worked out or not.
