I'm in absolutely no way qualified to start this thread but I couldn't see another one!

So after nearly 2 weeks of not running with plantar fasciitis issues, I've just done W6R1! I thought I'd go back a bit a build up gradually but it was actually ok considering I haven't run in so long. I haven't lost it completely as actually felt a bit like a runner! 🥳 We'll see how my heels are later today...

And I got back home just before the hail hit!

Hope anybody else running this morning is enjoying the crazy weather!

Well done @purplesequins! I’ve still got a few mins to shave off my time before I manage that. Grin

Oh that gives me hope then - I started C25K last September. Still have time!

Wow, purplesequins impressed. I’ve never done 5k in under 30 minutes. Prepandemic my park run time was 34 minutes something. No idea what it would be now. I’m curious/nervous to find out.

BTW, for the poster who did a similar time on a Park Run course this is a perfectly respectable Park Run time. I found that there would be a small number each Park Run who would walk the course, a larger number who would part walk part run and then a group of slowish runners which I would be in. With a small amount of effort you can overtake some of this group. (Ignore the super fit 20 year olds who will lap you!)

Hi ladies, did my steady state run again yesterday before work and was a bit better than last time at maintaining the same pace.
Looks like weather is improving from today onwards 🙂 although soon we'll have the problem of it being too hot to run!
Anyone doing anything nice for bank hol weekend? We are away caravanning again so hoping to get a nice run in while we're away

Well done purplesequins that’s great!

I finished my last week 5 run today. I was dreading it and had no idea how I’d manage 20 minutes…but I did! I was so pleased but exhausted by the end!

Well done RAINS what a great achievement.

Today was a non running day for me and I cycled to meet a friend. On the way back there is a long steepish hill. I always try and cycle as far as possible up it before getting of the bike and walking the rest. In truth I’d say I get off after quite a short distance, about 1/5th of the way. Well today, entirely unexpectedly, I cycled all the way to the top and it only became hard work close to the end. I was so surprised. I can only think that the regular running has made a difference and that my leg muscles are much stronger. I was really pleased. It’s so nice to have confirmation that I’m getting fitter and have more stamina

Well done @EmilyDickinson that shows how much fitter you are! DH always gets annoyed with me biking as I am so much fitter than him! 😂

very well done emily and rain

@EmilyDickinson

I'm impressed by your cycling. I'm very much a flat ground cyclist, and I just don't get out enough to toughen up my seat bones... I've managed to get swimming a couple of times on rest days which is nice, cycling I have to be more careful about because I usually have stiff and sore glutes so have to fit it in before an "easy" day rather than on a rest day.

I really need to get back to daily yoga. I notice when I don't do it but it's awkward when DH is working in the sitting room and there's not really enough floor space for twists anywhere else in the house. We were supposed to have completed on a much bigger house by now (legal faffage on boundaries) and I was really looking forward to having dedicated exercise space rather than sharing with the kids' Lego!

lets just say that I look a lot less elegant than in my head :o

Back from my 'easy' run. Only 20 mins but it didn't really feel that easy. I'm really interested to see if this garmin plan works cos tbh I feel slower/ less fit than when I started! Nearly all the runs are at a slow pace, not done any intervals or speed work yet 🤔
I've recently gone back to yoga too @random I'm doing erin motz 30 day yoga challenge videos but just dipping in and out as dont end up doing it every day.

I went out with the running club. Decided to deem it a "goal pace" run as the fastest 2 ladies in my group go at or above that pace. Still need to sort fuelling for longer evening runs - can't eat before and anything more than 5k and I'm feeling sluggish by the end.

Technically supposed to do a progression run today then a "long easy" on Sunday but I've got a 10k planned with a friend and I really don't fancy a 2h run only 2 weeks out from the half so going down the fastish 10k option which I'm sure was on my previous plan! Also an evening 10k fits my 'half term' long weekend plans a lot better than 2 hours! So either going to do the progression run with my friend (ignoring the 'too fast' whinging from my wrist) or go completely off plan from now on! Naughty me!

Hopefully will get to the club track session next Tuesday for some speed work which will be nice.

Well done to everyone still plugging on and making progress. EmilyDickinson - My run takes me up a hill that I struggle with on my bike, and I'm hoping for a similar experience to you when I try again, though it would help if I understood the gears better.
I did my first 25 minute run yesterday, a bit apprehensive but I managed. Three more of those over the next week before it goes up to 28 minutes. I'm so pleased I got past the early weeks when I was really out of breath and had a lot of aches after each outing. I'm really hoping our local park Run does not become extinct as i want to give that a go to keep up the momentum.

Can a hour 2hr 10k run ever be classed as 'easy' @randomsabreuse? 😁

W6R2 done, managed to get my average down to just over 9min per km, I'm so slow compared to some speeds on here! But I'm now officially quicker at jogging than I am walking, so I'm taking it as a win

Well done KnobJockey you’re a real runner.

A running day for me and I got it done early in the day, but it was still pretty warm. I was glad that much of the route was shaded by trees. I was slightly faster than when I last did the same route, so pleased with that

jokey long slow runs at a 'forever' speed are really nice. especially if you have an interesting route.
took some time to get there but I look forward to my one hour long run at the weekend.

Thanks @EmilyDickinson - that was me testing my local Parkrun route - really nice to know It’s a respectable time for a 5K. I just wish my Fitbit would call it a “run” when it tracks my runs - it still calls them “walk” [hmmm] which I think is a bit rude.

Report
randomsabreuse · 28/05/2021 19:43

It's 'easy pace' rather than really easy - my supposed 'easy' pace is about 2 minutes a mile slower than my 5k pace. My alleged "race" half marathon pace (tbc if possible) is around a minute/mile slower than my 5k.

To be fair once I've found my rhythm I feel like I could keep going forever in my easy pace (or possibly just above my technical easy pace because my legs like things faster than my lungs do ...) provided of course I don't find a big fat hill!

Took advantage of a dubious weather forecast to visit a local honeypot hill. Weather was actually ok if a bit humid and good views. Would be rammed in decent weather in the school holidays so will definitely use a similar tactic for our other local honeypots!

Worst bit was coming down hill. Wasn't wearing a sports bra and both my kids are fast downhill. 5 yo is efficient while 2 yo is crazy. Fortunately DH carried him up in the backpack and held his hand while he leapt down! I think running fitness is helping the walking but everyone else is getting fitter too! Maybe 2yo's weight will slow DH down to my speed up a steep hill before he refuses to get in the rucksack (or DH can't carry him...)

I have tried my new watch during today's run.
the result was a lot faster than usual Confused on the watch's own app so will see if the strava app gives a similar reading.
or possibly I was faster as I didn't listen to anything as I don't have wireless headphones yet...

very interesting to see the heart rate

I was very excited to have done W4R1 earlier this evening, after giving my niggly ankle/heel another week of rest/stretching/strengthening. I had done W3R3 twice a week earlier, with a day's rest between, and my foot didn't like that so decided it would be sensible to give it another break - I was getting a bit worried I'd either end up with the soreness never going away, or doing some permanent damage (or both). It felt fine to run on today, which was a relief.

As for the run, after all the other runs being early morning in cold and sometimes rainy/windy weather it was a bit of a shock to be running in warm sunshine and for the first time I got hot and sweaty. I was a bit puffed during the 5 minute runs but not so exhausted that I felt I couldn't carry on (though I was rather disappointed at being told I was 2.5 minutes into the last one, when I thought I must be very nearly finished!).

I am impressed by your cycling emily! I cycle short distances very occasionally with friends and am extremely slow - I am usually a long distance behind everyone else. I wonder whether getting running fit will help my cycling speed/stamina eventually?

I find I need more tgan one day rest, especially after a longer run.
