Hi everyone

I've started this thread as I couldn't add any more posts to the other one. Hopefully you all find this thread!!

Hope everyone had enjoyed their day - so bored at home right now I'm glad I have the run to look forward to. Waited till it got dark and I headed out with my new running buddy - my 11yo ds. Yes he ran ahead of me and stopped a few times so I could catch up, but we ran 4.46km in 33mins and I'm so proud of both of us! (And little dog of course who's my faithful running buddy). It was a bit drizzly tonight which was actually quite nice as it wasn't that cold so the rain cooled me off a bit.

I've been thinking of how I can improve my stride length and I wonder if I can use my rest days to do W1r1 and try to do it with much longer strides? Seeing my son running I realise how inefficient my stride is. If I can only learn to open my stride I could run much further in the same time. If I can walk tomorrow I might try that to see if I can.

Hope everyone is enjoying their runs today!

Thanks for the advice all. I've figured out how to look at my pace on my strava and the run that I actually completed was the slowest pace overall, so I probably just do need to slow down Blush.

No running here for last couple of days though, the place is like an ice rink! Hoping that it will have melted by new years day for next run.

Cavagirl · 30/12/2020 23:12

mysocalledlife & jibberoo thanks for your advice. I had shin splints in my teens (I heavily over pronate) which is why I've dodged running as exercise in the past, however I think my memory may also be conflating real shin splints I definitely had in my teens with this. Redcandlelight saying they felt like a bruise really rang a bell - and this is not the same, it feels more like a crampy, under-flexible thing, which gives me some hope! How mysterious....
New trainers are arriving at the weekend!!

Well done to all the runners out there today, especially those braving some dreadful sounding weather!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 31/12/2020 07:53

Need to do my run today, waiting for it to be light so I can see how frozen it is, the sun is coming up so it might melt.

DH did 4 miles off a marathon yesterday on the running machine....

I can’t get on with the running machine. I much prefer to be watching the scenery go past.

SerialRelocator · 31/12/2020 10:14

Notionally wk 7 run 2 today. Was going to postpone due to icy patches, changed my mind then ran 5.86KM in 39.45 minutes!
Extended my route on DH recommendation but forgot how hilly that extra section is (basically a BMX track)! Hard work but, still, I made it. Couple of days off from running now.
Also need to decide how best to use the program now as essentially I'm just using it to prompt me to go out 3 x week. Other than that I'm kind of doing my own thing. Any thoughts / suggestions?

Did you go out yet Dobby?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 31/12/2020 10:29

Still waiting, DH went out and told me the road outside is like an ice rink. So I’m waiting for the sun to melt the ice. So frustrating as I’m ready to go.

Thinking about swapping to the running machine and see if I can crack using it.

minipie · 31/12/2020 11:32

Morning all! Due to do W8 r2 today.

I’m starting to think about what happens when I get to the end of w9.

I need some sort of programme/app to make me actually go out (zero self discipline!). Any suggestions? I’m happy to stick at this sort of level, not looking to do any marathon training, but would like an app that prompts me to go and maybe tells me when I’ve done 5 min, 15 min etc like Jo does now. I suppose I could just repeat w9 forever Grin

mysocalledlife · 31/12/2020 12:29

I use Runkeeper. I've set it to alert me every 5 mins and every 1 km, and it tells me my time, distance and average speed. It doesn't do motivating chat though!

At the end of the run it produces charts so you can see your speed, cadance etc over your run. The best bit of my run is checking my stats when I'm back home Grin It saves all your runs so you can compare too.

Think there are other similar apps, like garmin and a nike one.

rjp3141 · 31/12/2020 15:00

Hello all, can I join please as need the ongoing encouragement...I've just done w4r2 with Michael, a bit slippy on snow but I stuck to the road more than pavement as we're fairly rural, wanted to go today rather than tomorrow with a hangover!

Misandrylovescompany · 31/12/2020 15:16

Back to my beloved w5r1 to get me back into it after my time off. Was fine, the cold air bothered my breathing less than I’d expected. Feeling rather saintly now 😇
I’ll do w5r2 tomorrow, or the day after, and keep going from there - probably with some repeated runs as usual!

(For those who might be new to the thread, I’m doing C25K very, VERY slowly, repeating weeks and so on, because I feel as though that helps me build the habit, and stamina, and that helps me keep going more than rushing through the weeks would. I personally find that weeks 5 and 6 in partic escalate the amount of running time too quickly for my liking so this super-slowcoach way of doing it is my solution to that problem ...)

minipie · 31/12/2020 15:30

Thanks mysocalledlife that sounds good!

vixb1 · 31/12/2020 15:41

Can I join please?! I need a bit of accountability!
Finished my week 7 runs just before Christmas and have done bigger all since, probably 2 weeks since my last run. Thick snow here now, so think it's going to be a few days before I get back out.

Do you think I should go back a few weeks? I was finding it really hard, but could keep pushing myself to finish. How quickly do you loose the stamina do you think? All I've done is eaten for a fortnight! But so so determined to finish it and keep it up!

Talksunderwater · 31/12/2020 16:14

Welcome @rjp3141 and well done @Misandrylovescompany.
@minipie if you find an app like you describe, I’d be interested too. Since I finished the programme, I’ve just been using my Fitbit to track my runs. It tells me when I’ve reached each km and how long it took - but it doesn’t give me encouragement Grin so I often find I stop earlier than I probably could (hence the recent mental battles I’ve been having).

Misandrylovescompany · 31/12/2020 16:14

Hi @vixb1! I’ve also had a couple of weeks off, and I went back a week. But maybe you could go back less, depending how you feel about challenges? It’s better for my self confidence to get back into it by doing a run I know is within my capabilities and then building on that. But you might not need as much encouragement as me !!

Talksunderwater · 31/12/2020 16:19

Welcome @vixb1. I find runs harder after 4 days off so I would definitely lose stamina after 2 weeks. I would suggest perhaps re-doing Week 6 as that has intervals?

vixb1 · 31/12/2020 16:25

Thanks @Misandrylovescompany & @Talksunderwater! I think it'll go back to the beginning of week 6 then, I'm really not feeling confident at all, so it'll be a good place to test out how I'm doing. Just need the snow to clear now so I don't break any bones!

Misandrylovescompany · 01/01/2021 17:22

Happy NY all. Did w5r2 (again!) earlier. My legs are getting back into the swing of things but surprised by how much stiffer they were in my post run stretches than they were before my two week break. (I use the Yoga With Adriene 7-minute runners’ cool down, in case anyone is looking for a stretching programme). Anyone else out there today?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/01/2021 18:11

Hi everyone, feeling a bit sad because I have missed my run yesterday and today. The ground is still frozen, plenty of ice about.

Yesterday I tried the running machine but I can’t get in with it and felt dizzy/un balanced.

Hoping the weather changes so I can get out and run....never thought I’d say that! Desperate to start w5.

Misandrylovescompany · 01/01/2021 19:18

Sorry to hear that Dobby. I can’t get on with running machines either. I have an eternal terror of flying off the back of it.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/01/2021 20:30

That’s part of it too Misery, I’m so far forward on the belt I’m wobbling the machine.

DH doesn’t have the same issue with it, and is doing a half marathon every other day...

Jibberoo · 01/01/2021 22:59

Hopefully the ground will get better for you @DobbyTheHouseElk - if not could you drive to a nature reserve or similar for a run?

I finally made the 5km!! So happy even if I was slower than normal but it was 0 put there so everything was hurting! Everything hurts now though - think I'll give that Adrienne yoga a try @Misandrylovescompany

For now I'm putting my feet up and trying to stick to my ny resolution (no more vaping in the house!) which should help improve the running. Oh and I'm having a celebratory mulled wine since I didn't drink last night!

Happy running ladies

Morning all I finally did my 10K although a day late as NYE I didn't sleep well and the ground was icy yesterday so I skipped it.

I think my plan from now will be to do 5K before work 3 days a week then on Saturdays continue using the C210K app until I finish it then try to do a 10K each Saturday.

I have to keep pinching myself - 19 weeks ago I couldn't run at all Grin

redcandlelight · 02/01/2021 10:07

I plan to go for a run today. round about 7k.
it's a nice day today but will get very cold for the next couple of weeks.
the annoying thing about nice weather are dogs.

I started c25k with my teens in april as a replacement for pe. teens sometimes still join me. (and will have to if school remains closed for longer).

redcandlelight · 02/01/2021 10:13

don't get me wrong. I like dogs.
I just don't like running slalom.

minipie · 02/01/2021 10:26

Ha I’m with you there redcandlelight they veer off in all sorts of unexpected directions! I’ve had to leapfrog a dog once or twice when they ran straight in fromt of me at the last second. Never actually trodden on one but it’s been close.

Now I mostly choose to run on residential roads rather than in the park to avoid the dogs (and toddlers, and people walking 3 abreast).
