Hi everyone

I've started this thread as I couldn't add any more posts to the other one. Hopefully you all find this thread!!

Hope everyone had enjoyed their day - so bored at home right now I'm glad I have the run to look forward to. Waited till it got dark and I headed out with my new running buddy - my 11yo ds. Yes he ran ahead of me and stopped a few times so I could catch up, but we ran 4.46km in 33mins and I'm so proud of both of us! (And little dog of course who's my faithful running buddy). It was a bit drizzly tonight which was actually quite nice as it wasn't that cold so the rain cooled me off a bit.

I've been thinking of how I can improve my stride length and I wonder if I can use my rest days to do W1r1 and try to do it with much longer strides? Seeing my son running I realise how inefficient my stride is. If I can only learn to open my stride I could run much further in the same time. If I can walk tomorrow I might try that to see if I can.

Hope everyone is enjoying their runs today!

Week6 run 3 done. Can't say I enjoyed it but nwver felt like I was going to give up.

@redcandlelight my long term goal is to go for dawn runs on bamburgh beach in the summer in my hols .. now I'm worried it won't be as pleasant as I have envisioned!!

redcandlelight · 27/02/2021 09:53

wizzler it was lovely running on the beach. the sound and smell was amazing.
but it's definitely something that needs adjustment. the first (and last) 200m or so were on very soft and sloping sand. especially the way back up to the bike was hard. you can't do a heel strike in sand. you also need to balance more.
my bottom, inner thighs and calves are a bit tight and sore today.

redcandlelight · 27/02/2021 09:57

anyone know how to get sand out of the shoes Grin

WellJuhnelle · 27/02/2021 10:18

Thank you @WhereAreWeNow - you were right, I did it! Very slowly but it still counts hey?

This thread is such good motivation - that and my 3 year old wobbling my stomach and singing ‘belly on a mum’ Instead of ‘jelly on a plate’ this morning Blush!

WhereAreWeNow · 27/02/2021 11:36

@WellJuhnelle yay, well done! It all counts, however slow. The only thing that matters is you keep going.

SerialRelocator · 27/02/2021 11:46

I started c2to5k in November.
Despite being an oldie (50s), it is encouraging to see running improvements can still get made.

So this week I did my first sub 30min 5K (on road) and I knocked 3min of my 10k (1h 4ish min but hilly trail so slower pace). I feel good! 😀
PS: I know I'll see fewer gains over time but it is so motivating to get them.

Cavagirl · 27/02/2021 12:53

Well done serial that's great work!!
I did my first post graduation run today (failed to get out in the week, naughty me) had to change my route to a slightly shorter one as the park is so busy thanks to the beautiful weather. Did 4.2km pacing 6.09 which I was surprised at as felt slow. I think I could push harder but I subconsciously worry I'll blow up and not be able to finish. Maybe I should just try it and see what happens.
My flip belt arrived just in time for the warm weather, it's great thanks for the recommendation fellrunner
Enjoy the lovely weather everyone!

SerialRelocator · 27/02/2021 13:02

@Cavagirl Nice getting out for that first run post graduation, isn't it.

Every significant improvement I've made in terms of time has been with a run that felt a bit slow. Maybe that just means you're actually making a bigger effort and hence better result.

I usually wait till Strava gives me the 1 or 2k pace. If it's good, I'll try and keep it up. If not, I treat it as a relaxing recovery run.

Onedropbeat · 27/02/2021 18:39

I did my first run in sunshine since I started c25k!

It made it a lot more enjoyable

I’m still struggling with getting the right support bra as even a super support running one still gives some bounce

5km and averaging 8minutes per km

Which is a minute per km faster than when I started.

I keep blaming living somewhere very hilly and my teeny tiny legs Grin

60m elevation gain today. Probably doesn’t sound too hilly, but it certainly felt it !

That’s 3 done for the week. A new week starts Monday 👌🏻

Onedropbeat · 27/02/2021 18:40

I honestly have no idea how I’d ever get anywhere close to 6 minute per km pace or 5km under 30mins

You are gazelles !

Onedropbeat · 27/02/2021 18:41

Also still have a baby that wakes to breastfeed every 2 hours in the night so that’s a good reason right!!

Onedropbeat · 27/02/2021 19:03

Also tempted to enter a 10k in a months time

Can anyone say whether there’s any chance a newbie like me can get to 10km by then?

WhereAreWeNow · 27/02/2021 19:12

@Onedropbeat I recommend Panache sports bras. I used to wear the wired one but now wear non wired. Very good. No bounce.

I read somewhere that it takes 6-8 weeks to get from 5k to 10k. I don't know if that's true or not. I'm nearly at 5k and I can't imagine ever being able to run 10k!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/02/2021 19:14

I’ve started using run, zombies. It’s quite entertaining. Something totally different. I did a 30 min run and listened to the audio. You have to speed up when the zombies are chasing you. It’s very realistic sound effects.

I know I’m not going to run 5k in 30 mins. My age and height prevent that. But to run and enjoy it for 30 mins is a good achievement for me. Speed will come in time. Especially when the zombies are after me!

fellrunner85 · 27/02/2021 19:33

I'm so glad you like it, @Cavagirl - especially as we're getting into warmer weather now, and lots of vests and shorts don't have pockets!

SerialRelocator · 27/02/2021 19:50

@Onedropbeat For me the only thing that stopped the bounce was adding a boobuddy on top of the bra (basically a velcro strip that goes above the breast). Even though I'm very 'blessed' in that department, it stops any upward bounce when added to a sports bra.

fellrunner85 · 27/02/2021 20:04

The only sports bread I've found that properly stop bounce, @onedropbeat are the Panache and also the Freya underwired crop top style one.

That said, now I have smaller boobs than I used to, I can get away with the Shock Absorber Run - but when I was a H cup and needed proper scaffolding, it was Freya or Panache all the way.

Therearenomore · 27/02/2021 20:59

I just did w3r1 and there was such a difference to week 1, I had no ankle pain at all. I'm so pleased, I love my new shoes! Smile

I'm an F cup in a shock absorber with a racer back onedropbeat if that's any help. I got it cheap on wiggle, probably because it's an eye searing pink! I've only just weaned DS2 last week so I'm hoping I shink a bit soon!

tizwozliz · 27/02/2021 21:28

The shock absorbers run small in the band ime. I wear 30f normally but my shock absorber is 32e and it's tight. Nightmare to get off if sweaty!

Therearenomore · 27/02/2021 21:47

Mine is totally like a corset at the minute, nothing but very upright posture is possible, thankfully it's a hook and eye one Grin

wizzler · 28/02/2021 00:08

I'm wearing panache sports bra with a racing back and they are the best I've found ( 36ff). Not cheap so keep an eye out for sales.

WhereAreWeNow · 28/02/2021 07:16

Agree Wizzler. I just bought a new one on sale at Belle Lingerie. Bra Stop is another good place to look.

randomsabreuse · 28/02/2021 07:44

I didn't get on with the panache as I bounced inside it! I wear shock absorbers and the Bravissimo look alike of the shock absorber multisport, usually with a compression top or a boobuddy if I'm going further or faster. Boobuddy is more for summer when layering many tightish tech tops doesn't appeal!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/02/2021 08:05

I used the panache, but lost weight and during last March lockdown needed a new sports bra. In haste got M&S sports bra fully expecting it to be useless. It’s actually really good. I think it’s called ultimate. It’s the strongest bra they sell. It’s fab. Much better than the panache. I get zero bounce or movement.
