As the last thread has been going so well, with graduates aplenty, here's a new thread for encouragement. Everyone is welcome!

I did my race last night, I came 105th and my time was 16:15. (Last time I came 125th and time was 18:08). So I'm improving!

KihoBebiluPute · 13/11/2020 10:44

Well done @Sonmi451! Is that some kind of "virtual" race that you can recommend? I presume it doesn't involve gathering in-person? Or are you not in the UK?

I am just back from w5r2 the 2x8mins which went fine. Next up on Sunday is 20 mins solid which feels very daunting. Think I shall recruit DS to come along on his scooter and provide motivation and encouragement.

Talksunderwater · 13/11/2020 11:34

Well, I really can’t believe it - I graduated this morning with W9R3 Grin

I managed 3.7km in the 30 mins with a slightly increased pace. The last minute was especially hard as I misjudged my route slightly and had to run a steep uphill right at the end Shock but I did it!

Keeprunning123 · 13/11/2020 13:53

Can I join? I just did W6R2, and found it so hard. Not sure if it was time of day, or just feeling especially tired today! I managed the 20 mins on Sunday so I know I can do it.

Cavagirl · 13/11/2020 16:34

Just did W1R2 and actually quite enjoyed it Grin
@Sonmi451 well done on your race! Although I did have to check back through the posts as I initially thought that was a 5k time!!! I thought I was definitely not cut out for this thread! 😂

Sonmi451 · 13/11/2020 18:01

@Cavagirl Ha ha, good lord no!

@KihoBebiluPute I'm on the Isle of Man, we are not currently in lockdown as we have only five active cases on the Island. Anyone coming onto the island has to isolate for fourteen days, even if they only left the island for a day, which is quite common as people often go to Liverpool for hospital appointments. So the people who tested positive were already in isolation, and Covid is not "in the community" at the moment. We are very lucky, essentially life is pretty much normal, so it was a real, in-person run, complete with driving rain and wind! Grin

LakeFlyPie · 13/11/2020 21:40

Good running folks, great to see everyone progressing.
DSs and I tried a new route this evening and undershot the 5k target again! 4.25k in 33 mins. It's definitely feeling a bit easier now that I'm managing 2-3 x 30+min runs each week, can even manage a few sentences whilst jogging which is progress. The highlight of this evening's run was overtaking another jogger, that's never happened before Grin they were going slower than seemed humanly possible

minipie · 13/11/2020 21:55

Hello, may I join too? I’ve just completed the first week. To my surprise I’ve really enjoyed it.

I’ve never run before, in fact have avoided exercise and especially cardio my whole life, but finally started going to the gym since September and am determined not to let lockdown break my exercise stride!

The 1minute runs seem just right for me... a challenge but just as I’m thinking I need to stop now, she tells me to walk. Bit nervous about 90sec next week..

Q for everyone, I am planning to do my 3 runs on Mon Wed Fri but that means there’s a two day gap before I go on to the next level. Will that make it harder? Should I try to do something over the weekend..?

schoolcook · 13/11/2020 23:04

@minipie welcome. When I did it I did Tuesday Thursday and Saturday which gave me Sunday just in case I didn't manage Saturday for any reason.

Now I just run every other day so one week it's 3 the next it's 4.

I don't think you'll lose pace with two days rest.

minipie · 14/11/2020 10:13

Ok cool thanks! Looking at the weather I don’t really want to go out ...

schoolcook · 14/11/2020 15:18

I'm out in the car and just had that exact same thought about tomorrow morning !

Ikeameatballs · 14/11/2020 18:34

I’ve not been on for over a week but I ran last Sat, Mon, Thurs and today so feeling really pleased with myself! Thurs was a short one of 2.8k because I ran to meet DP at Sainsbury so we could spend our double up points on booze.

Today was tough because I got that awful pain in my buttock again and I wish I had stopped at 4K when it first started. I pushed on but had a distance to go from home when I got to 5K and had to get DP to come and pick me up in the car because it was so sore.

So, I’m going to try to keep getting out regularly but stopping straight away if I get the pain. I can’t really work out why it’s some runs and not others though!

It sounds like loads of people are making great progress, I really can’t believe that on a drizzly day in mid-Nov I decided to go for a run and (pain in butt aside) I enjoyed it. This has been the point of it all for me.

User258544 · 14/11/2020 22:49

Hello, can I join please? I'm on wk1 run2. I didn't run last week but tomorrow I'm going to run come rain (likely) or shine! I know I will feel great after.

Cavagirl · 14/11/2020 23:05

Ah @User258544 you & me both! W1R3 tomorrow! I quite like a wet run (I tell myself...ha)

Joditaylorfan · 14/11/2020 23:08

Hi! Week 8 run 1 done here. Missing the walking breaks, even just 40seconds would help!

schoolcook · 15/11/2020 07:39

I did my first run in the rain today.
I hate rain.
But I like running more Smile
I ended up doing .39 km more doing the same route - don't know if it's possible to add on 390m avoiding puddles or if my Fitbit was just fed up !
It stopped raining halfway through but a very kind passer by saw to it that I got another good soaking Hmm
I always said I wouldn't run in the rain but it was either do it or miss it and I'm glad I did.
Hope you're all doing ok.

KihoBebiluPute · 15/11/2020 12:18

I did the 20 minute run of w5r3 - and it was great. I was feeling like I could have gone on for a bit longer so I am not feeling too daunted by the idea of ramping things up over the coming weeks. One of the things on the motivational script on the app was that your body is already ready for this, and the hurdle is just about getting your mind to not be scared and to face the challenge.

Cavagirl · 15/11/2020 13:25

Hurrah W1 finished! Very blowy but lovely & sunny here! I think (hope!) I'm ready for 90s intervals next week....

DameCelia · 15/11/2020 13:29

Hi @User258544 and @Cavagirl, I'm about to head out on W1R2.
It is windy but sunny and dry here, I was putting it off but you've both just given me the encouragement I need!

Cavagirl · 15/11/2020 13:30

Ah great stuff, you'll be so glad you did it!

DameCelia · 15/11/2020 14:27

@Cavagirl I am!!

Hi everyone can I join the chat? I'm on w3r3 but looking to repeat the week as it's been a hard slog last couple of runs. I'm very impressed (and secretly scared) of everyone running longer. Can anyone recommend anything for knee pain? I'm finding my left knee is really painful and no amount of stretching is helping. I'm going to try Epsom salts bath and some volterol tonight. It's a test day today but back to it tomorrow so I need this pain to go. Think I can't decide whether to repeat w3 or love onto w4. Technically it's less running in w4 but longer lengths. Has anyone found it beneficial to repeat weeks?
Oh and yes I'm really overweight so that's probably why my knee is knackered but nothing I can do about that before the next run ;)

User258544 · 16/11/2020 09:57

Back...I need accountability!

I got bogged down with chores on Sat. I was really tired and told myself I wouldn't have enough energy for a run as well. Argh must push out of comfort zone.

For context I have a condition and started a new drug 2 weeks ago. Had my period last week but it was light so not an excuse! I had a stressful work week which meant not keeping on top of chores. Anyway I had 10 hours sleep on Sat so got that in the bank.

Was ready to run Sun and had trainers on twice but it was pouring down. Maybe I shouldn't look at weather before! Was worried (always f***g worried at the moment) about getting a cold.

Self flagulation over. It is quite dry today. Made a meal plan. Starting work at 10 today. Have a meeting then I will run sometime between 12-1 Smile.

I am SO determined to do this. Last time I did it was 2016/17. I think I just have to take it 1 run at a time. Last one was good, I was so red after. I want to see if I will be as red this time.

minipie · 16/11/2020 10:24

I need accountability too!

I am sitting here finding every job to do under the sun instead of going out for w2r1. It’s not even raining, just grey.

Someone give me a kick up the bum and tell me to just go do it!
