As the last thread has been going so well, with graduates aplenty, here's a new thread for encouragement. Everyone is welcome!

@Sonmi451 I like to run on an empty stomach apart from 2 medjool dates and that only happens first thing in the morning Grin

It is a stretch getting up at 5:30 but I do like having done 10,000 steps by 11:00.

kirinm · 09/11/2020 15:31

I e started week 3 but am adding time onto the end to make sure I do run 5k. I actually managed 6k today.

Ran jogged v slowly with both DS (12+9) this evening. They walked, sprinted, skipped along whilst I slowly plodded. Managed 4.3k in 35 mins. I need to get some 5k routes sorted as I ended up going around the block at the end in the quest for 5k but was still 700m off abs couldn't be arsed going around again! I'm still very much in the can't believe I can run for 30 mins camp as I recall nearly dying after short jog intervals in the early weeks.
It's not easy but I am enjoying it which was my aim when I started C25K
My next goal is a consistent 5k and then to try and speed up a bit.

Talksunderwater · 10/11/2020 09:29

Welcome to those joining the group and well done @LakeFlyPie. I did W9R2 this morning and did 3.6km in 30 mins. Once I’ve graduated later this week, I’ve decided, like you, that I’m going to increase the distance gradually until I can run the full 5km. I’ll think about increasing the pace only when I can actually run that distance.

foresttheout · 10/11/2020 15:54

Managed the second run of week 5 today, the next run is the dreaded 20 minute one. I'm not in the UK though so thankfully no cold to contend with.

Cavagirl · 10/11/2020 16:34

Hello! Jumping in too! Did the first run today at lunchtime and to my surprise quite enjoyed it! Autumn sunshine definitely helped. I have never been much of a runner and always got terrible shin splints when doing it regularly (I don't quite care to remember how long ago that was) but I'm hoping starting slowly will build it up & help.
Looking at the later weeks I really don't believe I'll be able to do any of it but I'll take it run by run!

JustCallMeGriffin · 10/11/2020 17:21

@foresttheout just keep your pace steady and you'll be fine and get to do the W5R3 grin when you've finished

@Cavagirl welcome. I'm like a broken record but concentrate on how long you're running for rather than trying to be quicker and you'll be pretty much on level with what the app is asking you for (even if you're begging for the walking bits in the first couple of weeks...I was!)

@Talksunderwater I think my pacing is pretty much on your level. I'm taking the same approach, just concentrating on regularly running 5k then I'll start looking at my pacing to see if I can get near 5k in 30 minutes.

@LakeFlyPie mapping out a route beforehand was necessary for me to finally cover 5k. When I tried adding loops into my normal route I kept just thinking "Well I've run 30 minutes, now I want to go home". I forced a route that didn't allow for anything other than completing it or admitting defeat and turning around. It's also long enough that if I want to carry on I could cover 7k...but I only did 5k and walked the rest on my first attempt.

Just being in this position where I can run non-stop is incredible. If someone had told me that 2020 would see me running because a global pandemic made me hyper aware that my health needed sorting I'd never have believed them!

Talksunderwater · 11/11/2020 07:33

“Just being in this position where I can run non-stop is incredible. If someone had told me that 2020 would see me running because a global pandemic made me hyper aware that my health needed sorting I'd never have believed them!” @JustCallMeGriffin - that sums up precisely where I am too.

schoolcook · 11/11/2020 08:01

5K done this morning I feel like I'm getting slower but Fitbit stats suggest overall it's about the same.

30 minute 5K seems out of reach but that's not going to stop me aiming for it Grin

The3rdWatermelon · 11/11/2020 14:23

I did W1R1 for the second time this morning. I got up to W6 (I think), then had a bad run, planned to drop back a bit and take it slower, and then fell over just walking about and badly sprained my ankle. That was the beginning of September. There was a horrible loud crack as my ankle turned over and the whole of my foot swelled up. It developed a great big black bruise down one side. With that and the time it's taken to feel ok again I think maybe it was more serious than I thought at the time...
Anyway, I've started back at square 1. W1R1 is done again and so far the ankle feels fine, and it was nowhere near as hard as I remember it being last time! I even almost enjoyed being out running again. Almost!

Cavagirl · 11/11/2020 14:29

Well done @The3rdWatermelon !
I'm aiming for tomorrow W1R2.... I'm guessing it's best to have a day's rest in between? What days do people run on?

Sonmi451 · 11/11/2020 14:48

I've just done W4R1, but I did it on the treadmill in the gym. It's the first time I've run on the treadmill, it was an interesting comparison. In a way I was able to zone out a bit, because I wasn't looking our for traffic, puddles, groups of mouthy 14 year olds hanging around in bus stops etc. I was running soooooo slowly though - 5mph! The thing about running outdoors is you never actually know how fast (or slow) you are! But I managed it, without wussing out on the runs. I never check in advance how long the run intervals are, because I don't want to put myself off before I've even started, but I checked afterwards and it was five minutes. I'm impressed, considering that when I started, even one full minute was hellish.

I've got another run coming up tomorrow - it's a series of six, same route each time, 2.7km. Last one was 5th October and I did it in 18:08. Quite looking forward to it!

Riverseawoods · 11/11/2020 15:13

I can't believe it, but I've now run wk 9 run 3! I want to continue doing the loop and try to get faster, but I seem to gave done something to my Achilles tendon. What would you suggest? Should I scale it back and do some run some walk again, or do I just stop running for a bit? I don't want to, but I don't want to cause damage either...

IveSeenThings · 11/11/2020 15:39

@JustCallMeGriffin How true that is! Smile

@Riverseawoods Congratulations on finishing W9R3! Star
I would be v careful with an achilles injury, and seek professional advice- you definitely don't want to be tearing it! Ice is good in the meantime. Thanks

LakeFlyPie · 11/11/2020 17:48

Another 4.3k this evening! DS1 and I have planned how we can add a little loop onto our route to try and hit the elusive 5k.
cavagirl I think it's recommended to have a day off between runs although my run club coach did suggest it's ok to run consecutive days whilst you're building up to W5; once you get to 20+ min continuous runs it's advisable to have a rest day in between

Cavagirl · 11/11/2020 17:52

@LakeFlyPie thank you, that's really helpful. Really can't imagine how I'll ever do a 20 minute continuous run at this stage...! 😂
Well done on your 4.3k!

LakeFlyPie · 11/11/2020 19:03

cavagirl - it's the magic of the programme 😆
Think we've all felt near death (in varying degrees) during the first few weeks, regarding the looming 20 min challenge with disbelief and fear (I know I did!)
If you get your 3 runs a week in and take it slowly enough (slower than you think is actually possible) you can definitely do it

@wetglasswithbubbles

I'd consider a boobuddy for adjustability and added support if you don't have much success in your sports bra hunt. If you have the £££ and are in size range I'd consider the Panache Sports as that's a chunky piece of kit.

Both of my running and BFing periods I was off the scale for cup size and wore nursing bras with 2 or 3 compression tops to pin things down and stripped off once I'd finished. Boobuddy was handy once the warmer weather came around as it replaced 2 compression tops.

Not made it out today, DS's 2nd birthday so wrangling overstimulated overtired children!

foresttheout · 12/11/2020 05:31

W5R3 completed this morning and I can't quite believe it, was a brief 15 second stop because the dog just had to do his business in that particular bush apparently but other than that I ran the whole 20 minutes and also managed to run most of it at around 5min a Km without even realizing so covered 5.5km with 20 mins of running and 20 mins of walking.
Feeling very pleased with myself

TheDaydreamBelievers · 12/11/2020 06:07

Hello, just joining if that's okay. Previously a regular runner but lost all energy in early pregnancy so started C25k. Now 11 weeks pregnant. Did week 4 twice and this morning aiming to do week 5 run 2.

KihoBebiluPute · 12/11/2020 06:57

@wetglasswithbubbles welcome! Yes as pp recommends I also go for a Panache sports bra and I use a BooBuddy band too. Boobs bouncing about was the thing that put me off the idea of running for years. It is worth putting investment into keeping the bounce at bay.

Well done and welcome @TheDayDreamBelievers

@Riverseawoods huge congratulations! For an injury, ice, rest and elevation should sort it. Be very careful to do proper warm up stretching before you run. If it persists or returns get a private physiotherapy appointment - it will cost about £40 but it is very much worth it as trying to get physio free on the NHS takes weeks by which time any problems will have got worse.
