What’s your running pace per km?

I have improved during lockdown and I think (sadly) it’s because ice not been running with friends and so talking!

My routes are fairly hilly. I average 5.18 a Km. Sometimes a km on the route is as low as 4,47 a km but then on the steep climbs can be 6.5 a km.

But my average usually about 5.18

Length 6km - 12km

My son... 9 years old average 4.40 on a 5k run and arrives home not having broken a sweat!

@ozziex99 it really depends! For your average amateur woman, I would say sub-25 minutes is good, low 20s very good. But for my husband and his running friends they would say sub-20. But really, I figure an awful lot of people couldn't run 5km at any speed so we should be proud of whatever we can achieve!

It depends on terrain surely? I live somewhere very hilly. My usual long run I do is 12 miles with 3000'feet of climbing! However if I run along the valley or the canal it's much flatter and faster.

6:30 ish; was 5:45 when fit but currently doing C25K so much lower! But it's ok, it's better than doing nothing!

This is really interesting, thanks! I’m trying to learn to run (I hate running) and was looking at my stats on Garmin yesterday. My running pace is very consistently 5.30 - 5.40/km but I can’t keep it up (struggling to move beyond 5 mins of continuous running for my intervals). I was wondering if I’m going too fast and it looks like I probably am!

I run at 8-9km when at my best. But ive been running for years. I do have to take a break over spring/summer because of my hayfever asthma. I sometimes run at home on the treadmill during that time, but even inside i have to use an inhaler after 30mins, so usually i just stop running in that time and do short exercise programs.
When i first start again from a break i run at 6km and i run for an hour each time.

Oh god this has made me feel so slow!! I’m on my last week of couch to 5k and my running watch always says 9 point something!

About 6 mins per km so 30 mins for 5k & 60 mins for 10k. Parkrun is often quicker - about 5.50. Running on my own further than 5k, I often go much slower, anything up to 6.45 per km. I've been running with my 12 year old recently. On one 4k run I managed 5.36 per km!! I had to lie on the pavement when I got home I was so tired!

@Flamingolingo everything I’ve read says to start slow. And that’s the only way to build up. I tried niko niko but that’s felt too slow. However I’m still reslly slow but can now run for 28 minutes. Which wouldn’t be possible faster.

I’m anything between 5.30 and 7 per km at the moment. I’m rubbish at pushing myself outside of parkrun or a race. I’m slowing in the heat too.

@DaisyDaisydoo that was my experience at the end of c25k too. You’re going into a great period where pace will pick up quickly, it’s very satisfying. It’s far better to keep it steady starting out, I hear of so many people push it early and then have to stop completely as they’ve picked up an injury.

Between 5.40 and 5.20. I used to be much quicker but a series of injuries, lack of time to run and age have slowed me down. Lockdown has allowed me to go back to running 3 times per week. I can't do more frequently due to injury risk but can now run 10k relatively comfortably again Smile Yesterday was slow but so hot!

Thanks @TwistyHair - I thought I was being slow, but it looks like maybe not slow enough. Certainly doesn’t feel fast. But perhaps I need to take it slower

I’ve been running again since February, and am more of a Shetland pony than a racehorse. I’m very short, a bit chubby and more of a jogger than a runner.

My best 5km time is 37 minutes and my 10km time was 77 minutes. I accidentally ran 9 miles last weekend in 1:45 so I was pleased with that.

I’m not a natural runner so am just pleased I’m doing SOMETHING and am getting fitter and stronger. I’ve signed up for Parkrun for when it restarts, and would like to enter a 10k.

For me it’s beating myself, not anyone else. I’ll never manage a 20 minute 5k, ever, so am not even going to try! I’ll just enjoy the process.

if I ran 5km it would take 40 mins. I can average a pace of 8mins a km

if I did my fastest, best ever km it would take about 6 mins 30 seconds but I couldn't keep that up for more than a km :)

I quite like running the pace I do. It switches off my mind. Every now and then I try and improve my speed and run quicker than 8 mins a km and every time I fail. I think I am just destined to be a slow runner.

it used to bother me but it doesn't any more - I'm not running to race, I do it to keep the weight off and keep sane. I'm also not a natural runner - I've got short legs and exercise induced asthma and turn purple when I exercise!

Hahaha my absolute best has been 8.03 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ but I am just part way through couch to 5k. I am NOT a runner

New to running and borderline obese (BMI 30 on the dot, down from over 36 after DS was born).

My current speed is around 7.6min/km over 5km (38 mins in total for 5km). I'd like to get it down under 6min/km so I can do 5km in half an hour.

If I'm just running a mile I can do that in 10 minutes so I think that's 6.25min/km.

I'm hoping as I get back towards normal weight and get fitter my times will improve.

I joined a great FB challenge this month called This Gurl Runs. You set yourself a challenge of either running 25km 50km or 100km over the month and pay £15 and if you succeed you get a tshirt at the end of the month.
What's particularly good about it - and pertinent to this thread - is people post their runs including speed. I'm always in the last 10% at parkrun taking around 37-39 mins to do it, but loads of similar and slower runners in this group which makes me feel a lot mire satisfied with my own times.

So you're 7.32 mins pee km. Perfectly respectable pace and you wouldn't be last in parkrun.

I'm only doing abou 5:30 now in my 50s after a string of injuries but at my peak (late 30s, I was a late starter) it was about 4:50

Good heavens you lot are fast.
I run half marathons regularly and train in hilly routes and still average 7:30-8 min kms
I used to get upset and tried all sorts to speed up.. Now I just enjoy my running and am proud I run 20kms three times a week.
Plus I like slow running.. More time to my self
