Exercise

Time for honesty; What stops you from exercising?!

Just thought it'd be interesting to see what holds other people back from exercising?
My main one is I struggle to do a basic warmup without getting really out of breath which puts me off continuing!😣

Be honest and let's see if we can get some motivation going! 🏋️‍♀️

No self discipline, and not fit enough to enjoy it.

The only time I’ve ever managed to do regular exercise was earlier this year when I finally booked in for regular exercise classes 3x a week. Because I’d booked and paid I actually went and because I was in a class and couldn’t just stop and walk out, I actually did the exercise.

All gone to pot (belly) now of course...

I don't like sweating. If I sweated i'd need to wash my hair straight after and I have a really heavy weave. Washing and drying it as a two hour job. I only do it twice a week.

Because its boring
It hurts
It makes you ache
And sweat
And get out of breath
And afterwards you need wine and crisps to reward yourself
Basically, its shit

I don't like being sore, out of breath, embarrassingly sweaty, and purple faced. Especially the soreness; I get shin splints and sore knees and my lungs hurt.

I absolutely adore weight lifting so I'd happily do that, but I can't afford gym membership at the moment, or the kit to do it at home.

I just hate it. I am lazy and unfit. I hate any exercise. I can't be bothered to even get ready and get sweat pants etc. I hate sweating. I get no endorphins during or after.

So why do it?

My pelvic floor- or lack of it

I hate it. Always have. Oh and I'm lazy. I have a baby so now I pretend he's the reason (he's not).

Myself and my shelf of boobs, honestly my bra cups are bigger than my head, no one needs these swinging around out of control.

Getting changed and presentable afterwards. I do like running but fitting it in to a day with little kids is really difficult-hard to squeeze in in the mornings, and I’m ravenous by the time DH gets home so we eat, then I don’t want to go on a full stomach.

Nothing stops me from exercising. I love it.

Sheer laziness that and I want instant results.

The only exercise I enjoy is running but I have a hyper mobile joints and it's too sore. I find everything else so boring so I just don't bother.

My disability. I'm very wobbly on my feet, can only walk about 10 metres, and thus have become very overweight. Can't do any normal exercise.

I've just started doing chair yoga (with my 16yo dd2) and she does the full body bit where I do upper body. I'm hoping it will be a start to doing more, but even this is better than nothing!

I used to hate it too but I've got some solutions if you want them?!

Red face / sweaty / no clothes / expensive- do a home workout and no one can see you! Loads free on YouTube. Any loose clothes will do honestly. I do mine in my PJs

Boring? Do HIIT workout, there's no time to get bored or do a dance workout to your favourite music

Out of breath? Be happy that's your heart and lungs getting fitter! If it's unbearable slow right down but don't stop!

Needy kids? Give them screens. They need a healthy mum more than constant interaction.

Your 'd'h laughs at you? LTB! joking not joking

Fear of triggering a migraine. Chronic plantar fasciitis. Bright red face. Sweaty hair - I have thick curly pouffy hair which takes a lot of effort and product after washing to be made presentable.

So exercise has to be impeccably timed to coincide with having nothing else to do afterwards in case I'm wiped out by migraine, nowhere to go as i won't be able to put weight on my heel, or simply look physically repugnant with fat tomato face and sticky scarecrow hair.

Shame as I quite like it while I'm doing it.

It bores me, I start out with great enthusiasm, but by the 2nd week, the repetition makes me give up (whatever the exercise). Except horse riding and skiing, I love skiing, but it’s not terribly sustainable in the U.K. 😂 I’m also quite tired after I've finished work and done other life stuff.

I’ve got horses, they’re quite hard work and I’m generally an active person, I’m rarely still, I eat well and I’m slim and healthy. For me, that’s enough exercise

I hate being hot,
I hate being out of breath,
I hate people seeing me exercise,
I feel self conscious,
I hate the aching muscles for days afterwards which put me off going the next time,
I never see much improvement,
It's exhausting, no high afterwards for me I can go for a run then get back into bed for a nap,
Gyms are horrific,

I never sweat when exercising so I clearly don’t push myself hard enough Blush. During lockdown I’ve found it helps to put my exercise gear (old T shirt & tracksuit bottoms - nothing glamorous) on as soon as I get up, that at least motivates me to get on and do something rather than procrastinate because I don’t want to get changed again.

Love all these responses, they're so flipping real. Red face / sweating / out of breath / what the hell do you wear?! Endless.
Got to admit that last one about clothes, unless you're a gym bunny already, you look a pleb in any "gym" clothes. So what do you do? End up wearing something too baggy and hot... or go for the opposite and try old school bra and pants and can't stand the site of the wobbles.

Writing them down sure makes me realise I'm worried about a lot of stupid stuff that I could get ever if I REALLY wanted to.

Anyone fit and healthy before they had kids and just didn't realise how unfit / much bigger they got after?

Definitely my hair. It's on the wavy/curly border so takes a lot of taming.

I've decided to start exercising and just wear my hair up every damn day. I prefer to have my hair down but if it's a choice between staying obese with long hair or being slim again with a bun, I'll pick the latter.

My only excuse is that I'm a bit lazy! I love exercise when i actually do it...but the thought of it isn't so appealing!
