Just wondering if anyone has one or is considering it?

Hi, sorry to bring up an old thread but wondered if those of you who got one during this thread were still using it 9 months later? I really want one but DH is not convinced.

I work 45 hours a week, have a DD and DH is self employed so lemming all hours. Getting out even for a 30 minute run is like a military operation and needs to be planned days in advance.

Any buyers remorse at al?

Ramblingwords · 26/09/2020 15:43

I got one in lockdown @Randomness12 and almost at 100 rides now. Only remorse is not getting one sooner.

It was a big purchase for us and one I thought about for over 2 years before lockdown made me take the plunge. But you know sometimes you spend a lot of money then just have something that barely seems worth it (like a handbag or shoes) and other times you realise it’s worth twice the cost to you...the peloton is definitely the latter for me.

There are loads of great things about it and I’ve posted all over the place about it...but like you the main thing for me is convenience -having a complete piece of equipment set up with access to loads of classes that I can use anytime with barely any effort to get “set up”. The actual spin classes vary from 15 mins to 60 mins so you can squeeze them in wherever. After the initial cost of the bike, the monthly cost is giving me far more value for money than any gym membership I’ve ever had.

@interestingdays personally I think the bike looks great so don’t worry too much about where it goes.

Some recent threads to read through, although a good place to discuss the decision is the UK Ladies Peloton fb group (but you won’t find many people there who regret it!):

Exerbeg · 29/09/2020 08:25

Seriously considering getting one. Used to use a turbo trainer. How does the bike and saddle compare to a road bike?

Ramblingwords · 29/09/2020 22:01

@Exerbeg It depends how you set it up really. Its very adjustable. I have my handlebars higher than I would on the road...I don’t like having to cock my head up for the screen. The ride is obviously smoother. Saddle more substantial. I find the saddle comfortable but it can be changed in the same way any road bike saddle can be changed. I use my peloton more than my road bike so I’m more comfortable on the peloton, but I guess it’s just what you get used to. I don’t use padded shorts or anything, but I clearly have a really consistent seating position as you can see all my leggings have little worn circles from my “sit bones”! Not sure if that answers what you are asking?

Exerbeg · 02/10/2020 13:36

Thanks for the reply very helpful. I suppose there is nothing stopping you wearing cycling shorts if thats what your used to. Still considering at present as its very expensive and I am not sure if I can justify the expense at present.

Balibabe1 · 02/10/2020 14:43

Hi Exerberg
I did the free Peleton trial in lockdown, annoyingly I was too late for the 90 days free but the 30 days gave me a real sense of what and how I Would use the different classes and I have to say I really enjoyed it.
I’m lucky as I own a spin bike so have just joined up for the app only which is £12.99 monthly and can be cancelled easily in my settings.

Buying the bike may feel@ huge outlay so you could hire one or borrow one to see if you like it before fully committing and just pay for the app. It also shows you workouts completed so you know if you’re making the best of it. Good luck in your decision, I really enjoy doing my spin from home.

being40 · 04/10/2020 17:42

I got the Peloton end of April and have used it every day. One of the unexpected discoveries was all the strength yoga barre and run classes. I do the outdoors running ones too and it's changed my exercise regime completely. That's after 30 plus years of working out.
The bike itself is good and much better than the gym spin bikes even.
I have spun since 2000 so I knew what I was getting in for even that though... I've started doing the fitness tests and pushing myself more.
The seat is more comfortable too.
My sister in law got one and she did 15 classes on it then gave up.
So it still depends...

Dunsford · 02/01/2021 11:50

Morning,

If anyone is thinking of getting a bike or tread (just ordered my tread), then please DM me. I can give you a referral code which entitles you to £100 off accessories. It also gives me £100 off the Peloton clothes store - everyones a winner
My Tread arrives on Feb 6th - cant wait !

Ramblingwords · 02/01/2021 23:24

@Randomness12

Did you ever go for it? I’ve now done 200 rides and have consistently used it 4-5 times per week for 26 weeks. I don’t really see that changing. Just signed up for loads of new challenges. No buyers remorse here. I’m still in the wishing I got it sooner category.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 03/01/2021 08:03

Sorry to jump on, seems like I'm in the same boat as many others who are very tempted by Peloton but can't necessarily afford the bike at the moment. I've seen there's a few threads but this seems to be the most recently updated.

Just wondered if anyone is using the app with their own bike and if so, how easy you find it to follow the classes in terms of adjusting resistance? I've only ever cycled on the roads locally, am far from a keen cyclist, so all the talk of resistance and cadence etc goes right over my head!

We are considering getting a JTX Cyclo 6, with perhaps the possibility of upgrading to that actual Pelaton bike once they are in stock and we are more secure financially. But even the JTX is a big purchase for us, so I don't want to spend out on one if it's too complicated to follow the classes on a non-Peloton bike. Have looked at Les Mills, Swift, Echelon but the Peloton content seems to appeal to me the most.

Ramblingwords · 03/01/2021 12:25

Hi @KoalasAteMyHomework....there's some discussion on this thread about the difference between being an app rider versus having the bike (I posted some info):

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/3951131-peloton-worth-it?pg=2

It is an expensive piece of equipment. You might find you can access a discount through work/ your insurance. I posted about some of the discounts available in the thread too, I think.

The bike is cheaper than the bike plus. And there's been talk of peloton selling cheaper refurbished bikes soon that are the bikes people sent back during the free trial to upgrade to bike plus during its introduction.

It really is a considered purchase I know, but I have more than got my money's worth. My only regret is procrastinating over it for so long (because of the cost). I dont think I would have stuck with it without the community aspect and personalised training that comes with having the actual bike. But there are other ways to get set up for spinning at home. Just be careful that you dont spend more by spending twice. Come to the UK Ladies Peloton Facebook page if you really want yo weigh up the pros and cons, there are both app and bike riders there.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 03/01/2021 12:52

Thanks @Ramblingwords that's helpful. Unfortunately we aren't eligible for any discounts, I have checked. I think we are leaning towards doing our own set up, especially with the app price being so much cheaper at the moment.

I might check out the Facebook group! My biggest concern is being able to follow the classes properly if I use a different spin bike, especially with regards to resistance and cadence.

NeurologicallySpeaking · 04/01/2021 09:45

@KoalasAteMyHomework my code is 382MZV which gives you £100 off accessories and me £10

NeurologicallySpeaking · 04/01/2021 09:48

Lol dropped phone. £100 off clothes.

The cost of the bike is huge no doubt about it. We are paying monthly but it suits my circumstances so well. I have been really struggling to exercise postnatally due to time whereas the bike is just in the corner so I can hop on while DH is playing with the baby and get a workout done.

I am far from a fitness fanatic so am finding it hard but I love it. I'm in London where a Pilates studio class would be £10-14 though so compared to that it is cost effective

KoalasAteMyHomework · 04/01/2021 11:18

Thanks @NeurologicallySpeaking
I spent most of yesterday talking to my husband and doing more research. Whilst we would love to get the bike, we just can't stretch to it at the moment. I've signed up to the peloton app (did some yoga last night) and we have a cheaper but still decent spin bike on order that I've read works well with the app. It won't be the same experience, I understand that, and couldn't find an obvious way to match the resistance to the peloton, but it's the best I can do for now. As much as I don't want to spend out twice, we've bought a bike with the idea of selling it on if/when we can afford the peloton in a year or two.
Just got to be patient and wait for the bike to arrive now!
Thanks everyone for the advice and links to other threads.

Shando · 18/01/2021 18:34

We've got one recently due to lockdown and have absolutely loved it. Being a nurse it was quite difficult to fit spin classes between night shifts etc., so this has been a great way to work it around that - plus I don't have to leave home - even though we cant!

My referral code is 6XX74S, which will get you £100 off if you do decide to take the plunge. Feel free to add me :)

nbee84 · 18/01/2021 21:54

@KoalasAteMyHomework - re the resistance. I don't worry about the resistance the peleton instructors state too much (on my non peleton bike), it's about working to your own intensity levels. You should be able to match their pedal strokes at the intensity you are on - if you find yourself pedalling faster than them up your intensity a bit and if you're struggling to match them and are slower then lower your intensity. After a while you'll be able to roughly equate the peleton level to what level you feel is equivalent on your bike.

As for the cadence - that's just the speed of your pedalling. Try and match the instructor and it's usually to the beat of the music - most songs have a rhythmic beat of 8 and I often find myself counting.

The peleton classes are great but it's also worth trying out some other spin classes on a non peleton bike;

I love Les Mills 'The Trip'. Les Mills usually have a 30 day free trial of their on demand app and they offer 3 different types of spin class (as well as lots of other workouts with and without equipment)
Studio Sweat have a few free workouts on YouTube that are really good.
There's an app called bitgym that has some scenic cycle routes (quite different to a spin class but good if you just want to get on the bike and pedal) they have about 8 courses that are free without subscribing.

Good luck and do come back and let us know how you get on Grin

vickyq1983 · 20/01/2021 13:11

Hello! Just about to order a Peleton... does anyone have a code I could hijack? Thanks!

ILoveRainbowCorn · 20/01/2021 23:19

Love love love my peloton bike. You won't regret it
My referral code is

YPK2BB

CockapooMum · 21/01/2021 21:13

My bike arrives on 1st Feb. Can't wait to get going. Well worth using a referral code as if you buy the next package up from basic you get the shoes, headphones and dumbbells for only £45 more than the basic package. My referral code is FQQTNK if anyone's looking to order Smile

KoalasAteMyHomework · 26/01/2021 20:45

Thanks for the useful advice about resistance and cadence @nbee84 and to everyone for their help!

AsLongAsIHaveMyTea · 28/01/2021 22:39

I love my peloton bike! I work mad hours when my business is operating and there would be no way I would have time to travel from my rural location to a gym, work out then travel home, then get to work! And after work I usually only have a couple of hours at home before I need to go to bed. I can do I quick on demand class most days and it’s only taken 30 minutes rather than 2 hours of pointless travelling, changing rooms etc.
During these extended lockdowns my bike is amazing too because without it and with the rubbish weather I know I wouldn’t be doing any exercise except walking the dogs!
It’s in no a gimmick, it’s a really high quality all body piece of equipment!

vickyq1983 · 29/01/2021 08:02

Oh wow loving these reviews! We have young children so one of the reasons we are getting it is to cut down on workout times. Like you say going to a gym, waiting for a class, showering, driving home etc it's just not feasible for us at the moment. I have been running during lockdown but we are rural and I'm limited to when I can do that at the moment as well because of light and weather. Can't wait for it to arrive!

AsLongAsIHaveMyTea · 29/01/2021 09:30

Yes Vicky I totally agree, I’m the summer running in the countryside is lovely but in the winter it’s nearly impossible, the lanes are too dangerous to run on as they are too narrow even for cars and the footpaths etc are just so so muddy!!! You’ll really enjoy the bike for its convenience!
