How to get more energy !

Movin · 05/09/2018 20:49

I train 5 days (HIIT) + one parkrun. Commute 2 hours a day and work full time. Do the lions share at home, no DC but desperately trying. I feel constantly exhausted, eat well, sleep 8 hours - any ideas for more energy!! Don't suggest less training it's my stress relief !

And am constantly starving !!! Any tips - sit around 1500 calories, high protein diet.

Eat more than 1500 cals (and train less)......!

Hairytangerine · 05/09/2018 20:57

It’s that fine line between too much and not enough excercise.

I manage best energy wise with 1700 calories, 3 runs a week but 15k steps a day. I am trying to loose weight though

Movin · 05/09/2018 20:59

I'm not trying to loose weight, 60kgs 5'7 and pretty muscular. Just trying to maintain. But struggling a bit at the min.

Is that too much excercise?

What’s your diet like?

silkybear · 05/09/2018 21:04

could you swap out two of the HIIT days for yoga so you are energised but not exhausted? sounds like you are not getting much relaxation time. I would up your cals as well

shapeshifter88 · 05/09/2018 21:13

on your bmr calculations should you not be on more calories with bmr plus level of training?I'm 65kg and do crossfit 5 x a week and am on 2300 a day just to maintain and feel human.

seven201 · 05/09/2018 22:17

I had a friend who'd been trying to conceive for a long time who was into fitness. Doctor recommended she do less exercise and she fell pregnant shortly after. Obviously not proven! I've heard it before though.

alardi · 05/09/2018 22:20

Bloody Hell. I eat 2400/day, very close to same weight & height, commute 2 hrs/day, do maybe similar exercise but sleep terribly: but I don't gain weight. Are you actually on low carb, not just high protein? Do you eat a lot of veg (high vitamin food)?

Why do you do "lion's share at home"? What does "Lion's share" mean you're doing?

alardi · 05/09/2018 22:20

ps: are you anxious?

Movin · 05/09/2018 22:23

Typical diet
Yoghurt and fruit & chia seeds
Or egg, small bit of salmon - spinach

Snack - banana or celery and almond butter or egg

Lunch - chicken and roasted veg or tuna salad

Snack - 1/2 cup of pop corn or 2/3 rice cakes or apple and cheese or bit of chicken

Dinner - roasted cauliflower and lentil curry or salmon and green beans - spag bol with veg noodles or steak and salad

How old are you?

Movin · 05/09/2018 22:26

37

DH makes dinner and a little housework, I do all meal prep or DH and I (breakfast, lunch snacks) laundry and housework etc.

So you don't get any rest at home? That would shatter most people.

shapeshifter88 · 06/09/2018 05:56

just looks like too little food.
if you had say overnight oats with protein powder for breakfast and made sure u have carbs in the meal after your training session (sweet potato / rice/ wm bread) i would imagine you would feel better.

DianaT1969 · 06/09/2018 07:01

Lots of questions here as your OP struck me as someone who is trying to take care of her physical and emotional needs but spectacularly self-sabotaging.
Can you get a cleaner? You both work full-time and commute, so that would seem an obvious step.
Do you shop online to make your life easier? Are you getting enough 'good fats' for energy release? Why do you need stress release?
Is your job also demanding?
Forgive me for bringing it up, but Iis there a background of eating disorder (sorry it's a personal question, so please don't answer, but just flagging in case relevent to why you are exercising fairly low calories).
I knew a model who was TTC for 2 years. She was advised to put on half a stone. She hated doing that, but she fell pregnant within months and had a lovely baby boy. She stayed trim and kept up her fitness all during her pregnancy, which I think was one of her underlying fears.

DianaT1969 · 06/09/2018 07:04

Sorry, you asked about more energy. Have you had bloods done to rule out any deficiencies? Worth taking a multi-vitamin/mineral anyway perhaps?

beela · 06/09/2018 07:05

I know you said you didn't want to decrease the exercise, but I would honestly add in another rest day. I do hiit as well, I aim for 2-3 days on, one off.

Have you checked your vitamin and iron levels?

Movin · 06/09/2018 08:47

Lots of bloods done - no issues found.
High demand job, I could get a cleaner but being honest I would prefer to spend that money on myself. I'm not underweight, nor is my body fat low. No previous history of ED. I've tried more days off, didn't make a noticeable amount of difference to my energy levels.
Take on board that I maybe could eat more, but concern of weight gain will always been there.

OP posts:
alardi · 06/09/2018 09:23

Too little food would make her lose weight, OP said her weight was stable.

Can you tell us how physically active or otherwise stressful your job is? OP's story could almost describe me but I'm not exhausted, seems like big differences are either how demanding her job is or b/c I do minimal housework coz frankly I happily do minimum.

I wonder if OP is perfectionist and anxious about getting things right across multiple areas of her life. Worry & putting self under pressure can be exhausting, too.

shapeshifter88 · 06/09/2018 09:48

it wouldn't make her lose weight necessarily if its carbs she is low on, it would just overly deplete energy stores and not refuel them so shes running on empty.

beela · 06/09/2018 10:41

Maybe more carbs. You need to refuel after exercising.

SkiGirl007 · 06/09/2018 18:11

Physically tired or mentally tired? Tried mindfulness just 10mins use an app can recharge me.
Check iron levels. Mix up the exercise with a Pilates/Swim/Yoga session?

SkiGirl007 · 06/09/2018 18:16

Visualise how your life would be different with children. For example I wouldn’t have the energy to work FT with a 2hr commute and look after babies/pre-school children. (I know some have no choice but if you can how can you alter this? Work from home couple of days a wk?) Can you make any changes now? Reduce stress levels, as stress is very energy zapping.
