Motivating yourself and 'fitting it in'

First of all, I'm NOT an exerciser! I was a fairly sporty teen but for sports more like rugby and hockey rather than athletics and running like my friends.

I've always wanted to be a more sporty person but have every excuse going. 2 young kids, evening work, day time work, a bad knee, a husband that works irregular shifts, no money for the gym, too fat, depression, no car to take me to the gym/clubs/teams, you name it (those are just my current ones!).

I watched the triathalon yesterday and was inspired, I saw posts on facebook for a local 10k and was inspired however today I overslept so the school run was a rush, I was feeling particularly low and my 2 year old has been thoroughly uncooperative so yet another day has passed with me doing zero exercise. DH is at work until 7.30 and i start at 8 so this evening is a no go.

How do you get beyond this? I so want to be one of those people who enjoy going for runs and maybe one day ill get there but how do you get over the initial hump?

Theres a local womens running group which looks great but its 2 busses away and i just dont have the time for that. There's no one in the village who would/i would want to come with me. I just need a kick up the bum and to be told th I can and I will and that its worth it!

I'd try something you can do at home or from right outside you front door. Short sessions 20 minutes. I have started running Niko Niko style which might interest you. I was a complete non runner and found it surprisingly easy. I started a thread about it, here:

With regards to your 2 year old you can get running pushchairs or try indoors if they still have a nap or at a time when your DH can look after them. Otherwise there are lots of workouts on YouTube. Or cycling might work if your 2 year old will go in a trailer.

Pleased you think so, Op. Be interested in hearing your thoughts on it over on the Niko Niko thread too.Smile

Thanks, I've been practicing in the house while making tea!

Will see about having a proper go tomorrow, dd2s buggy is rubbish for running but should be good for this. I'll let you know!

Hope it goes well for you, Odd. Look forward to hearing about it. Smile

Good luck Odd! I loved exercise pre-DC and would still love to go. Combination of two toddlers + unhelpful DP prevents me doing more... I was Shredding every day whilst they napped but have had to stop to recover from a virus Sad

I do do lots of walking though, could you do more with your DC? Or if they are slightly older, things like Parkrun/ trampolining/ swimming together?

I'm determined to make sure my DC are active - much as I sometimes resented walking with my parents when I was little, it did do me good - and DP can be really lazy so I have to counteract that!
