30 Day Shred - Who's doing it? Have you lost weight?

BeBe32 · 03/10/2016 18:47

Hi everyone

I have the 30 day shred DVD but have never done it. I've put on a lot of weight recently and feeling awful. I have a holiday in just over 8 weeks and I'm desperate to lose as much as possible in that time. I'm planning healthy meals but though 30 DS might help - I'd love to hear from people who are doing it/have done it. Did you lose weight? How much? How soon did you notice a difference? Please motivate me!

xx

Ha I did think that would be some extreme shredding! Yes you have been brainwashed now- I notice how often she says 'push'- had flashbacks to that awful time I tried to do Insanity...
Thanks for the tip re rest days, I think I'll have a rest tomorrow and do Sunday. Would normally run on a Sunday morning so shouldn't be too bad!
It's annoying how quickly fitness drops if you're not consistent with it!

BeBe32 · 08/10/2016 11:42

Hi

How are you all doing? I'm actually having a sort out of my diet today and planning my meals for the week so my official first day of the shred will be tomorrow (have already started but I know if I want to get results I know I need to sort out my eating and this week has been manic at work and it didn't happen!). I think Level is ok, hard work but doable. But like I said my full on healthy eating and starting the Shred from the start for 30 days will start from tomorrow when I've been food shopping- hope I can do it! 8 week until my holiday...

Hope you're all getting on ok,

xx

Hi I done level 2 yesterday for the first time. It was hard but you can see Natalie cheating and doing the easy version so you know that it's not only you that is struggling.
My stomach hurts a bit today but nothing else.
I need to push myself a bit more.
I bought some really nice bread from co-op and ate the pot with cream cheese yesterday. But the diet shall start today and I haven't had sweets or cakes for over a week.

I'm trying not to have to many breaks so will be doing the shred again today.
I found reading reviews and results about every level pushes me to keep on.

TheLionQueen · 08/10/2016 21:24

BeBe you sound super organised on the planning front! Im useless at meal planning, always go off piste and my lunches are rushed and whatever I can grab fastest.
Also gone back to using my bread machine so can't resist it- feel your pain Bye
I had a rest day today and feel much better- less achey by miles. Hope I don't pay for it tomorrow!
I keep reading success stories too! Really hope it helps with my back fat situation Blush interesting to see even Natalie cheats!

BeBe32 · 08/10/2016 23:08

I'm trying to be organised TheLionQueen because I have been so bad lately! Due to work stress I've been comfort eating, missing lunch and grabbing whatever's there just like you are! Hence I have put so much weight on! Tbh my motivation has been rubbish but I'm hoping I can do it because I feel so awful at the moment!

It's hard to be super organised. I manage it for my DH (make him healthy packed lunches and there's always breakfast stuff for him) but I can't seem to face sorting it out for myself. I think feeding him nice things gives me pleasure!
I've got into a ridiculous sandwich habit at lunchtime but I can't be arsed faffing around making a jacket potato and salads don't fill me up enough, even with egg/chicken or whatever. The only time I have a decent lunch is if I've got leftovers from the night before.
Fortunately I don't think I've gained weight but I have lost energy. I can tell when I'm eating badly as I'm so lethargic.
I have managed to shred today and it wasn't anywhere near as tough as the first time- I only had to have one small break during jumping jacks and did everything else.
Tempted to re-measure on Tues but think it might be early days yet!

Sugarandsalt · 10/10/2016 13:37

Can I join you all? I'm starting level 3 tonight, just finished level 2 which I hated! I have extremely weak abs and find all the ab moves very difficult even on the "easy" level. Does anyone have any suggestions to help with this?

I've lost 3lbs (been counting cals too and have lost 4stone since January). I've lost quite a few inches though- waist is now just under 27inches (was 28.5), hips now 40 (were 43-I'm quite bottom heavy!) and my arms are noticeably less flabby. DH says my tummy is flatter but it still looks bad to me (below my waist of course!).

TheLionQueen · 10/10/2016 15:57

Sounds like you're doing really well sugar keep it up! I did level one again today and only had one tiny break, I think I'm getting better.
Haven't changed my diet much if at all but I'm not too bothered about weight loss, eager to tone up though.
I measured again today and nothing has budged!
My waist is 33 and hips 38 so I'm quite bottom heavy too.
Measured my thighs and arms too though they're not too bothersome.
I hope I have some loss by the end as I can certainly feel it!

Sugarandsalt · 10/10/2016 20:31

Thanks Lion. I found level one got easier around day 5. Level 2 I found really tough throughout!

Just did level 3 day 1, and much prefer it to level 2. It's hard but I could do the moves whereas I spent much of level 2 terrified of falling flat on my face! I never thought I could do jumping jacks with my handweights but there you go!

TheLionQueen · 10/10/2016 21:11

Yikes the weighted jumping jacks sound hard! I'm struggling a little with the first set of normal jumping jacks but think it's because I'm not properly warmed up.
I've read a few times that people find the second stage the worst. I wondered if it was the moves or just that fitness is improving by then?
Bit worried than my ankles are clicky and a bit achey. Sank into some of the moves a bit too much today so my outer thighs ache Blush

Sugarandsalt · 10/10/2016 21:23

It's a good ache! I struggled with jumping jacks followed by jump rope in level 1. I think the moves in level 2 are more complicated and require more core strength than I have. It wasn't that I was out of breath, I just didn't enjoy it so struggled. Glad I did it now though.

I actually enjoyed level 3 even though it's hard; I was sweating and short of breath but felt great afterwards.

VulvaInLaw · 10/10/2016 21:26

Marking place for inspiration!

TheLionQueen · 11/10/2016 19:06

How's it going?
I fit day 7 in today.
Away this weekend which will mean 2 rest days and shit loads of junk food
I really need to overhaul my diet as I'll get nowhere. But it's hard :-(

Sugarandsalt · 11/10/2016 21:24

Hello vulva! Lion well done on doing a whole week.

Day 2 level 3 done.im afraid I look nothing like the girls in the video nothing to do with being overweight I'm sure. I'm enjoying level 3 though. I can do lots of the moves with Natalie, just sticking with Anita for the ab stuff. I've also now got a resting heart rate of under 60 so it's doing something for my fitness!

TheLionQueen · 12/10/2016 09:58

Well done sugar that's great that you can do Natalie style moves! I'm barely aching at all now so wondered about moving up a level but think I'll stick out the 10 days and hopefully do it all without a rest. I'm going shopping today so going to look at some heavier weights- sure I'll ache then!
I've also dug out my push up bars, this is getting serious!

Sugarandsalt · 12/10/2016 10:30

Yes I've been sticking with the 2kg weights all along. I may do it again with heavier ones after I finish. Can't do any advanced ab moves, still have to push up on my knees but am working on it (I have developed an ab obsession lately!). What weight are you using?

FreckledLeopard · 12/10/2016 10:32

I've started the Shred. Can I ask - how long do you generally take before moving up a level? Is the idea to start Level 2 after 10 days and level 3 at day 20? Or is it not that prescriptive?

Sugarandsalt · 12/10/2016 10:36

Freckled I think it's meant to be 10days per level so that's what I've been doing.

TheLionQueen · 12/10/2016 12:18

I've only been using tins of beans Blush
I couldn't find any weights today, just 3kg kettlebells but they were expensive. Might try with litre bottles of water or something?!
I can't imagine a day when I don't do push ups on my knees but then again I couldn't imagine I'd ever run 5k and I did that so we will see!
Welcome Freckled how are you finding it?

Sugarandsalt · 12/10/2016 12:29

Lion I got them in Argos, were only a few pounds.

FreckledLeopard · 12/10/2016 14:04

Thank you! I started it last week, did it twice, then came down with horrible cold, so need to get back to it. Will do it this evening. It's good - my arms were killing me the next day so I think I was doing something right!

TheLionQueen · 12/10/2016 16:08

Ah I'll have a look in Argos, I'd forgotten about there- out of stock last time I tried to get some.
Just shredded and then eaten some bloody ice cream right out of the tub like the pig that I am
After this weekend I'm going to be stricter- I like being fit but ultimately I want my body to change too and it doesn't stand a chance at this rate.
Good luck Freckled hope your cold is clearing up!
It seems to be my legs that ache the most but I managed to do the whole thing today without any breaks so that's something.
I used my press up bars as well and it was easier in a sense- still the same movement but less strain on my wrists somehow!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/10/2016 10:04

Just wanted to nip in and say that I did the Shred over 8 weeks (ie, 30 days spread over 8 weeks, probably about 3/4 days a week) before my holiday in May and it really worked. I was dieting too, but I kept falling off the wagon food-wise. I lost about half a stone but I slimmed down dramatically - started to fit in most of my size 10 clothes again. Unfortunately I didn't do it again when I came back from holiday and I'm back up to a size 12 and heavier than I was before I started!

I've done the Shred a lot (intermittently) over the last few years and I think Level 2 really nips your waist in with all the twisty bits. Level 1 I think is good for your thighs with all the squats, but it's when I get into Level 2 that I really see my waist getting smaller.

I'm starting a different Jillian DVD - Ripped in 30 - for a bit of variety. I did day 1 level 1 last night and in some ways it's easier - you don't do such long stretches of strength, because she does 3 moves instead of 2 for the strength section. The moves are a bit complicated, though, so it probably didn't seem as hard because I wasn't doing it right!

TheLionQueen · 13/10/2016 11:22

Ah that's good to know cheddar I was starting to feel a bit disheartened though I know I'm not even a third of the way through. Hopefully at the end of level two I'll start to see a difference.
I'm thinking about having a couple of weeks on SlimFast when I get back from my weekend away. I know it's shit but I'm feeling a bit hopeless. Was thinking if my snacks were protein based e.g boiled eggs I should be able to keep shredding..

Tangoandcreditcards · 13/10/2016 11:42

Been working and had a stomach bug so I've not been even maintenance shredding on days off like I'm supposed to be.

Just keeping in on the thread to get me back on it when I feel better. Noting your tale of caution cheddar. I do have Ripped In 30 but have never opened it - don't fancy complicated moves. After 2 full shreds I have finally got the hang of one set of moves! I do all the press up moves on my knees (except the standard PU on L1 which I can do 'natalie-y' now) if I'm feeling especially hardcore I start on my feet and then collapse to my knees after 2 reps.

lion - I always feel like level 1 gets me FIT enough for level 2, and then level 2 gets me STRONG enough for L3. Agree with what cheddar says about waist nipping in towards end of L2. I use 2kg weights now, but on my first shred I alternated 1kg and 2kg - I moved up to 2kg when I could do all the reps with 1kg weights.

Also - I know it's personal to each of us, but your measurements aren't too bad lion, so it's not like you've got stones and stones to lose, so it's not just going to fall off (I was 2st overweight when I started so the first bit was easy to shift). Just try to eat sensibly and you will definitely see results, it's only been a week! I honestly couldn't recommend slim fast, I think it does more harm than good. What works for me is: a VERY high fibre breakfast (all bran, dried fruit), a small lunch (carbs OK if I want them, but kiddie portion) and dinner on side plate (replace carbs with carrots, mostly). Shitloads of water. I need the high fibre breakfast coz (TMI) I get v constipated when I eat less so need to keep the little meals moving!
