Day 1 of 30 Day Shred - anyone care to join in?

I've read a lot about it on here, so thought I'd give it a go.

FYI, I'm late 40s, walk a lot but do bugger all else exercise-wise.

So I did the first 30 Day Shred this morning, and could pretty much follow it, although had to tone it down once or twice. I felt fine afterwards so then did the Davina Fit in 15 cardio workout too. And now I'm beginning to feel it! I'm going to ache tomorrow, aren't I??

I'm going to try to do the Shred every day, and the cardio every other day. Would anyone else like to pal up for mutual support? I've got just under 4 weeks until my holiday, so I'd like to see an improvement in my weight/toned-ness by then.

I put The Shred on today to do it, but I decided halfway through the warm up that I hated it and wouldn't do it, so I did the Jessica Smith 5 day fat burn HIIT walk instead (30 mins) and am sat here with sweat dripping off me. Think I'll go back to The Shred when I'm fitter and it doesn't seem so unreasonable. 😁

Anyone else mad enough to exercise in this heat?

Eyehospital · 19/07/2016 13:45

Fran I did the shred last night - went back to level 1. Am heading to pilates later today so probably won't do it tonight (although I've just been for lunch so might have too!)

super move on to level 2 - you don't have to conquer every move before going on. I did level 2 (once) and went back to level 1. I'm going to mix it up a bit

orangina push ups are hard but if you keep going you'll manage them as will I

DeepFriedCamembert · 19/07/2016 23:07

I'm a newcomer to 30 day shred and a bit late to this thread, but I did day 1 today. No weights in the house, so I used some tins of soup instead (very light, so I feel a bit of a cheat). I just got the video from YouTube. Do I just repeat the same video for 10 days before moving to the second video?

Spam88 · 20/07/2016 00:03

I started 30DS a couple of months back but didn't finish it. Started again on Sunday and hoping to make it through the 30 days before my husband comes back (he's a sailor). Definitely found it easier this time than when I started last time. I think a full push up will forever be beyond my capabilities, but I can do 30 seconds of ones from my knees now :) I'm using 1kg weights (used 0.5kg last time), cannot believe the weights some of you are using, are you mad??

Also, to people still thinking of skipping to level 2 - level 2 is evil. Stick with level 1 and enjoy it while you can...

DeliciousIrony · 20/07/2016 20:24

Sooo hot, I can't bring myself to exercise at the moment and feeling annoyed about it...hoping for a more bearable day tomorrow!

DeliciousIrony · 20/07/2016 20:35

On the brighter side, 1.5 inches lost since I started shredding again about a month ago, which I'm pretty pleased with, as I'm not big but fairly wobbly and find it really difficult to lose weight or tone up. I'm eating galaxy chocolate right now though so probably won't last Grin

Spam88 · 20/07/2016 22:08

I didn't shred again tonight because my knee has decided to start hurting. Probably shouldn't have decided to drink half a bottle of wine instead though...

DeepFriedCamembert · 20/07/2016 22:31

Day 2 done! I still haven't got around to buying weights, so fashioned some by filling plastic bottles with sand from my son's sandpit.

FranHastings · 20/07/2016 22:39

Well done everyone! 1.5 inches is brilliant Delicious. I feel a bit of a cheat still joining in on the Shred thread, but I did do a workout today. 10 pounds down Cardio Abs. (Jessica Smith). Bloody hell, that's a hard one. The sweat was dripping off me. I'd say easily as hard as Level 1 Shred. Kickboxing inspired. Very enjoyable.

Hope the knee is better soon Spam.

DeliciousIrony · 21/07/2016 20:59

Not seen Jessica Smith before, just looked it up on Amazon...I can't get on with kicboxing type stuff but am intrigued by the 4 minute 'Tummy Torching Tabata', I bet that's an intense 4 minutes!

Back on the exercise wagon today after a week of doing not much...managed to do Shred it With Weights (L1) before work this morning and thought I was doing fine, and then almost threw up after! Jillian's never driven me to puking before, so I'm a bit nervous to try that one again.

But still forced myself to do another workout after work to try and kick my arse back into gear, with 30DS L2...forgot how much arm stuff is in that one, they feel like jelly now.

Anyone else shredding today?

FranHastings · 21/07/2016 22:58

Yes, I watched the Tummy Torching Tabata and realised I'm a long way off even managing a couple of the moves Grin. The cardio abs nearly finished me off yesterday. I absolutely love her dvds, did the Total Body Balance Cardio Flow (20mins) and Total Body sculpt(20mins) today. My stomach muscles burned so much I felt sick too. Must be the day for it DeliciousIrony. 😁

Jessica Smith has absolutely stacks of free stuff on YouTube too. Beginner to more advanced stuff. It's how I came to know about her. Really like her delivery and cueing.

Spam88 · 21/07/2016 23:39

I did Day 3 of Level 1 today, was so shattered though that it was really a half hearted effort :( DeliciousIrony, I literally can't do all the plank moves in level 2, I don't have anything like the upper body strength required lol.

Might check out Jessica Smith, I could do with a bit of variety.

DeepFriedCamembert · 29/07/2016 14:08

I'm on day 3 of level 2. I suddenly see the evil side of JM and find myself gasping "I hate you Jillian" while planking! I still very much doing the easy versions of the moves. Has anyone gone from being useless at planking to being able to do the jumpy plank moves?

8FencingWire · 01/08/2016 19:29

Hello, I fell off the wagon due to house move. I am now settled and sorted, so I will restart :)

DeliciousIrony · 01/08/2016 21:47

I'm no fan of jumpy plank moves Camembert but I think my stamina for them has improved. Plank jacks are definitely preferable to mountain climbers, I think.

I have done no Jillian for 5 days as I went away for a long weekend, which involved plenty of food and booze...definitely need to get back on it. Eased in today with 30DS L1, managed to keep up with Natalie all the way through (even for the push-ups, which I usually end up doing on my knees) and use the 3kgs for a couple of the moves, so pretty happy with that.

I've also set myself a target of 500k steps in August (so average 16129 per day), which forced me out to do an extra walk after work, in the drizzling rain. And before I went away last week, I tried Killer Body for the first time (upper body and lower body workouts so far, will try the core workout this week), and I quite liked it - 4 strength circuits with a minute of high intensity cardio in between, about half an hour but felt quicker, so would recommend to anyone getting bored of the Shred.

8fencing I am moving this month as well and definitely won't be fitting in any extra exercise, but lifting boxes and packing/cleaning must burn a few calories!

tina363 · 01/08/2016 23:27

I've just ordered the shred and 6 week 6 pack as I've a holiday at the end of august

DeliciousIrony · 04/08/2016 21:26

Killer Body (Core workout) done for the first time today...urgh, that was a hard slog. Definitely felt it. Hopefully that means it's effective..did Extreme Shed and Shred L1 yesterday and remembered that I don't like that one.

Can't get on with all the kickboxing/yoga type moves and some of them don't feel like they're really doing anything, so I end up subbing them with random other moves.

This 16k steps a day lark is already a pain, I end up pacing about the flat like I madwoman and driving DP mad. However, I shall persevere!

MazzR · 10/08/2016 15:38

I'll join ye! I'm on day 3 today. ..have done it loads before but when I get to target weight I then reward myself by stopping all exercise! This is the time that I will keep up something!

superbaghag · 10/08/2016 20:41

have been on level 2 for a week and doing the easier version of all the plank exercises and it feels like will never be able to do them :(

DeliciousIrony · 13/08/2016 10:13

Level 2 is a beast! There are some moves in Jillian DVDs that I think I will always have to do the easy version of...as long as you're doing it some way or another Smile

Haven't managed to motivate myself to do any DVDs since Wednesday, so I will try and do something this morning, maybe 6 week 6 pack. I did do 21k steps yesterday so I don't feel too bad and then ruined it with tapas and wine and sticky toffee pudding
