Getting faster but sooo tired - is it time for a wee break?

Have posted some fast [for me] times over the last couple of months on and off the track.

Despite feeling v tired yesterday and having to take a power-nap in the afternoon, I then went out and ran a fast 5- Miler at the club handicap event in the evening.

I'd like to do a parkrun tomorrow as I hardly ever get to do one despite it being so close to my house. How do I gauge when tired becomes over-tired? I feel whacked right now as I've been on the go all day, but feel like I shouldn't be as I'm very fit?! Doesn't really makes sense but hope ykwim?

I'm not an expert, but I had a week off over the summer and it made all the difference (had been on antibiotics for 4 weeks for an ear infection and was just exhausted). Too late as you've now either done the PR or not, but don't feel about taking some time out if you don't feel right.

KeyserSophie : well, I did do my PR this morning and got a PB! A lot of the time I feel tired but then run a fast one, but it just seems to be making me feel more tired afterwards - cumulative effect?

I will take a week off anyway just to have a break as I can't sustain these hard efforts for this long without doing myself some damage. I cycle to work and walk the dog too so not as if I'll be having a lazy time!

I do however, suffer from arthritis in my right knee and it is feeling quite sore the last few days, including a couple of episodes of it being excruciatingly painful whilst at work during the week. Think that's a clue??? Grin

Incidentally - my new fitbit comes in useful here - when I looked back at my heart rates for each run this week, I've been working in my 'peak zone' every run for pretty much the entire run, so probably not a wonder that I'm tired now!

Most training programmes have a reduced week every 4th week to avoid burning out. That's reducing milage or speed.

Quick update! Hopped over here now! It was indeed time for a break!

That was a bit dramatic! Hope the strengthening work helps out.
